I know, right? Charlie Strong was the only capable candidate for that position. We're doomed.

Never said he was coming here, however, just don't have much faith in Kelly to make a hire who's worth a damn for DC.......

Harbaugh's pattern is to coach 4 years or so, and then leave for something else. He either gets bored with what he is doing or is asked to leave after a few years. I suspect he stays for at least another year or two, but...

Perhaps someone who follows Michigan football more closely can answer these questions. How many starters is Harbaugh losing from this year's team? Will next year's Michigan team be dominated by young players, rather than a large core of upperclassmen? Harbaugh has recruited some good, young players, but will they be ready to achieve another 10 or 11 win season as early as next year?

If Harbaugh sees a couple seasons of rebuilding ahead of him, he just might take another shot at the NFL.

I think he's been rebuilding the past two seasons sadly....

As much as I want Harbaugh to go, he isn't leaving until he wins a NC. A couple breaks go their way they are in the playoffs this year. His ultimate goal might be to win a SB but I think he is focused on beating OSU, winning a BIG championship, playing in a Rosebowl and winning a NC.

Anyone outside of Michigan really has no idea the cult of personality at work here. It is ridiculous the worship by scUM fans. I would bet that he could literally do no wrong in the University's eyes or definitely the fans eyes.

I've posted this questions before - how long does the UM admin and fanbase give him if he can never get over the hump?

You think he isn't leaving. The Colts could come and offer more money and the GM role to go with it. There could be some scenario that blows him away and he takes it.

Regardless of Harbaugh, after yesterdays performance there will be some changes with the Colts. My money would be more on Grigson than Pagano, but it could be Pagano or both.

John Cooper at OSU had 10 years of losing to Michigan before he was canned. Cooper had a .702 winning percentage but couldnt beat Michigan. Trust me, he is the saviour.

True, BUT that was like 20-30 years ago and I think fan bases are more "what have you done for me lately" now than ever. I just think the leash is a lot shorter these days.

I am thankful that ND fans aren't this way.

That would be an epic meltdown for sure. But I can't gloat too much... my meltdown will be coming at some point in the not to distant future.

Tommy, and I say this with love, but f*ck off haha.

You've seen a dynasty, at least. Bama is gonna pass the torch to whoever the biggest name is in three or four years, whenever Saban is ready to retire to the lake and sit on the boat (and watch film all day, until he decides there's too much sloppy football being played across the country without the influence or threat of playing against a Saban-lead team, at which point he will return to coaching for another 5 years. Go Irish.)

There have a large number of head coaches hired over the last two weeks. How many coordinators have been hired?

What's taking LSU, OSU, Texas, Houston, etc so long to have their staff completely in place?

To be fair, those teams haven't had coordinator openings for over half a season. There is an argument to be made that the train should have been rolling as soon as the USC game was over.

A) We don't know that prospects haven't been contacted and interest in the taking the position already being worked on and B) Today is the first day of dead period. I prefer that BK focused on recruiting and can now interview prospects for the DC position.

It is completely crazy to expect a DC hire today...

For the record, I agree with your points, but they don't necessarily refute my post or Koon's concerns. Your original post cited what other programs are doing relative to the time frame, and I was pointing out that ND's window for working things out was open much earlier than those other programs that you referenced, so it's not unreasonable to expect something sooner than those programs.

But is it really that way? Just because ND, according to a calendar, has had a longer time to work on hiring a DC, have we really? After BVG was fired the ND coaching staff was fairly busy trying(unsuccessfully) to win football games and since the USC game BK has been recruiting. On the opposite side of the coin, there is a protocol to recruiting new coaches. I am hopeful that the new DC at ND will come from a team that is playing a bowl game. Typically there needs to be permission granted from the head coach of the prospect to the hiring coach for the interview.

I understand what you are saying as far as being farther along in the process, but the part of the comment I really take exception to is the "Can we hire a DC today". That is foolish.

Maybe he's already on staff...Elston

With that being said, I was watching ESPN and they were talking about Fickell to UC. They mentioned Elston as a potential Target for Urban.

Oh boy. This kind of stuff is what I find hilarious. If ND were to hire Elston as the DC, the fan base would flip out, but here is Urban expressing an interest in him. Too funny. BTW, I hope for someone from the outside to be the new DC.

But if he isn't named Notre Dame's DC would he feel its time for him to personally make a move even if its a lateral one. Being on Urban's staff where guys get shifted up to coordinator rolls who then make their jump to heading coaching jobs is a noticeable trend. He could be getting sold on being the Schiano successor after the 2017 season.

I'm with you, pretty Random, but Adam Rittenberg? I think thats the Big Ten blogger for them, seemed to think it was pretty viable. Take that for what its worth.

I just think Urban likes stealing Kelly's lunch money at this point, that's why I felt it might gets some legs.

Kiffin has accepted the FAU HC job

Yikes. Have to think he has been told by bigger programs that there is no way he is getting a HC job in a higher tier.

Thinking the same thing... Why leave for that job when you figure you stay one more year, win another NC and land a better job.... Hope FAU has a big buyout clause

I read somewhere that Saban was heavily involved in pushing Kiffin to this job so that he wouldn't be the OC for LSU. I don't think he was going back to AL regardless of whether he got this job or not.

He was a PR disaster at both Tennessee and USC*. I think he has to rehab his image more than his coaching reputation.

*And the Raiders for that matter

How so? I remember him losing a lot at USC, but I don't remember him being embarrassing. He certainly was a PR issue at Tennessee, but that's the only one I remember.

Radio is talking that Saban had conversation with Kiffen that this was to be his last year as OC. Also they were telling story that the DC at Bama loved making Kiffen look bad in practice to watch him get his ass chewed by Saban. IMO Kiffen taking the FAU job shows how the college football world views him. other than Houston, he was basically overlooked at Oregon, USF, Cincinnati among others.
