FWIW, Drsikell did an article tking about all the assistants and their respective contributions to ND since coming to the program. Arguably the best track record and borderline "elite" positional coaching is from Denbrock.

Like at many programs, HC's have to make concessions to keep those kinds of coaches around. Kelly's was giving him that title, and sharing the duties with Sanford. In an ideal world, it's easy to say promote one and demote the other. But it doesn't necessarily work out that way. So before we keep saying fuck Kelly over and over again, let's give some rational thought to it.

So Hopkins says Fleck to Oregon. Since we all know that really means Fleck to Bama for a year and a half, where does Saban go?

Once Nick wins another national title this year he will want to cement himself as the greatest college coach of all time. How can he do that you ask? He will take Notre Dame to the promise land.

Fleck and Sanford together would be a lights out recruiting team. Fleck needs west coast guys if he is to do well at Oregon and Sanford fits that bill

I swear if Sanford isn't name OC and Denbrock is still OC I will lose my mind. Everyone knows Sanford loves ND but he doesn't even call the plays. For him why wouldn't he go back to the West Coast and call plays for one of his really good friends? If BK doesn't make changes and Elston is named DC and Sanford leaves for Oregon I will seriously have major questions about this whole PROGRAM moving forward. Not just BK because I am done with that ego SOB. Swarbrick needs to put his foot down. Sanford gonna walk into BK's office and say I'm leaving this sinking ship

tumblr_mp9y5csPES1sxif5fo2_400.gif

Agrred, GB........I just, at this point have no faith in Kelly to make positive changes for the program, and mostly because of his ego. I know he's the HC, and all of them have egos to some extent or another, but I see his as being more detrimental to the program than it helping.

I don't see Sanford going to Oregon without seeing what happens here first, Kelly could be out, if I'm Fleck Notre Dame is a more attractive job than Oregon right now. We have a lot of pieces coming back next year enough to make a run at the playoff, Oregon on the other hand doesn't. Also, why would Sanford job to Oregon when Kiffin could be getting a head coaching job and leaving bama? I'd rather go be the OC at Bama and win right away.

Very good points.

Also, I've read more than once Fleck doesn't want to leave the Midwest. Don't forget that Purdue is supposedly waiting for the MACCG to offer Fleck. Purdue has a new AD that is willing to spend money and they are in the process of major renovations. Purdue has a pretty decent football history, so it's not far fetched to see them land someone like Fleck. Maybe he wants to go toe to toe with Meyer and Harbaugh.

Sanford is still relatively new to ND and his wife just gave birth. I would assume she would have a big say in any of this.

Stay calm and let the process run out. Plenty of time to bitch after all of the dominoes have fallen.

So Sanford wasn't calling the plays? Who's calling the damn plays then? Is it Denbrock? Is he the one that calls all those damn shotgun plays in short yardage situations? insert the derp ND Nation comebacks

Is so, than yeah move him to DC. I do think he's a great WR/recruiter and have no doubt he would make a better DC than BVG. But one question is, what's wrong with making Hudson the full time DC? I thought the defense massively improved (if only by perception) under him. Maybe they weren't really under him to begin with?

I'm actually fine keeping all the coaches on that side of the ball. I thought with so many freshman in the backfield, and so many under-performing yet talented front 7, we would be extremely better next year with the right guy heading it.

If Sanford wasn't calling the plays, then move him to OC/Play caller and see how it goes. If that means making Denbrock DC to keep him, you do that. Having 2 energetic coordinators recruiting is a plus in my book. I'm guessing Kelly is here to stay for a least one more year, let's make it as great as it can be.

I think that would be a disastrous move for him professionally. He's building a great program in Colorado and is set up to compete with USC every year for division titles.

IIRC, Sanford has input in developing the offense for each weeks opponents and makes suggestions during the games, but most of the plays are called by Denbrock with BK changing if he wants to.

As far as Hudson, I think he was more DC in name alone and it was more defense by committee. Not sure who actually sent in the defensive formations.

if a consequence to rid ourselves of Kelly is that each and every one of his assistants has to also be gone from ND, then that's what we need to do. I can live with that.
love to keep some, but new HC needs complete autonomy to pick his own staff top to bottom.

I'm not sure about that. MacIntyre has put together the lowest rated class each year in the PAC. He's having an amazing year but I'm not convinced it's resulting from a sustainable foundation.

MacIntyre really looks like a damn good coach. He'd be my #1 realistic want if the trigger is pulled this year. I just don't know how he'd be on the recruiting trail.

No way I would leave Colorado. I've been always been a bit of a Buffs fan ever since that awesome Hail Mary pass to beat the Skunkbears, plus Boulder and the UC campus are beautiful, plus Colorado is an amazing place to live (I'll try not to get wooly started), plus, as tussin says, you have an opportunity to build a bit of a PAC 12 powerhouse. It would have to be a mind-blowing offer to get me out of there.

I don't agree. This is his first good year there and it's already paying dividends -- 3rd ranked Pac12 class and 18th nationally.

Purdue: According to a tweet from Dan Dakich, “Not declaring it ‘done’ yet but Jeff Brohm to Purdue is doneish.” Dakich adds that he hears “press conference Monday”.

Huh? Why would he go to LSU after probably winning another championship at Bama. It's not even a lateral move. I don't see why Saban would be pushing him out either but I have not followed Bama that closely.

From some of their sideline interactions it seems they butt heads often. Maybe Lane would rather work under one of his buddies rather than a dictator.
