Watched the Herman presser on Longhorn Network yesterday, looks like UT got a good one. Understands UT, the fanbase, alums, importance of high school football. Predicts championships. Coming at a perfect time...young team with tons of talent, in- state teams in disarray(TAMU, BU, TCU, TTU). Watch and see if he doesn't move quick to seal the borders and control in-state recruiting like Mack Brown did.
Last three coaches at UH...Briles, Sumlin, Herman.

I wish Herman luck and I hope he's ready for the big stage. The guy is not lacking for confidence but I wonder if he truly grasps the level he is working on now. Texas is one of THE blue blood programs in the country; it doesn't get much bigger. IMO, I don't care what the fans, boosters, and AD at Texas say, Tom Herman has exactly 3 years to turn Texas into a winning, bowl-eligible team. Or else he gets the gate after 3 years just like Strong did.

Clay Travis interviewed Bruce Feldman on Fox Sports this morning. Feldman reported that Ed Orgeron is courting Kiffen for OC. He said the chances of Kiffen leaving Bama are about 75%.

Also said BK will be back at ND next year. Doesn't see Jack making a change.

I just can't see this happening. I know that apparently Saban and Kiffen don't get along while Ed O & Kiffen apparently had a good relationship at USC. But aside from working for someone he likes, what's the upshot for Kiffen? He's going from a Nat'l Champ program to a rebuilding one. How much more could LSU conceivably pay him? And if Aranda is now Associate Head Coach, that makes Kiffen third banana at LSU instead of 'Bama's number 2. I'd think if Kiffen was going anywhere, he's either strike out for a NFL OC job or test the waters about getting another college OC job somewhere.

as coach of UT you'd kinda wanna be doing that IMO

You got it, that's the best thing Mack Brown did when he came to Texas...made the high school coaches feel that UT was their team, and that the best in the State belong at UT. Herman has years of experience in Texas...at UT, UH, TSU, SHSU. He totally took over recruiting the Houston area at UH, kind of like UM sealing Miami off from all competitors in years past. Rivals gotta be pretty nervous right now.

Time will tell, but I really think he gets it, and benefits by coming in already connected with in state recruiting connections, a young and talented squad, and a desperate hunger from UT fanbase and alum$$ to get back to position of dominating state and being perennial top ten team.

would solve a lot of ND's problems with that one

Except for, you know, hiring a coach who's better than Brian Kelly.

But yeah, when I saw the Oregon news just now my first thought was that they've offered the job to BK and that's why nothing has come out of Swarbrick/Jenkins about his future here.

Frost is young but that wouldn't surprise me. He was at Oregon for a while and did a decent job with a UCF team that didn't win a game in 2015.

Heard it somewhere. Maybe here. It just seems a big job for him. I kinda figure Fleck's Purdue.

True, but Oregon is kind of funky. Remember Chip Kelly was offensive coordinator at New Hampshire before he was the Offensive coordinator and head coach in waiting at Oregon. New Hampshire to head coach at Oregon is a huge jump.

Yup, Oregon is the kind of school willing to gamble... they also tend to promote from within recently, so this will be very new for them doing a national search.

Supposedly they will offer Kiffen more money. Along with that, going to another school and beating Saban improves your stock considerably for getting another HC position. It also shows that your success wasn't simply a product of working for Saban.

Fleck will not go to Purdue. Unless it's his only option, he'd be crazy to. It would put a big damper on his young career.

When I heard the Oregon news, the first thought that came to my mind was BK heading to Oregon and Blake Barnett joining him...

be interesting to see if Fleck does leave K-zoo, he's a divorcee with kids and an ex-wife there. he might not want to go to far. Purdue isnt all that far away though so for him though.
