Silly Season 2015/2016 (Coaching Changes)

Oregon 's RECENT Rose, Fiesta wins and College Football Playoff appearance says Hi.

ND over Oregon is a no-brainer, but we're at the point where many other jobs are more attractive.

More attractive than ND IMO:

Bama
OSU
scUM
USC
LSU
Texas
Oklahoma
Florida State
Clemson
*Florida (this one is much closer than the rest)

Why would anybody take Oregon over ND? The facilities? That's all Oregon has over ND (besides the women). Oregon isn't in the same league as the ND job.

Lets see... I am a football coach. Choice of jobs. Oregon and the billions behind me via Nike. Little oversight if I am winning. Grades and other small things not an issue. West coast recruiting... ND has the goldfish bowl. Some jerk off big money Alums, everyone and their brother second guessing everything you do, academics microscope, small infractions HUGE penalties. I could go on an on.

You have to really LOVE Notre Dame to take that job.

99% of the good coaches are egomaniacs with a God Complex. How better to satisfy that than winning big at ND?

If the admin would make even the slightest concessions, I think we'd be surprised how many guys would be lined up with their resume.

Sigh. No, none of this is accurate. Especially the recruiting part.

Just Get Charlie Strong to ND as a defensive coordinator.

Would be a great thing if done, just don't see this happening. Not sure how taking the job affects Strong's buyout payout ($10.7M), and how long would he stay at ND(1. if Kelly falters, 2.isn't it just a rest stop for Strong?)? On the other hand, ND represents to Strong what he is all about, and he knows what it's like there. Might need Lou to get these 2 guys together for a sit down.

Right? Oregon basically gets the sloppy seconds of the California schools - and now has to contend with Washington, too. There's a reason they never have highly-rated classes. We, yes, have academic standards. But that actually helps us with a lot of recruits. And our recruiting classes are far better (one can debate the end product on the field though).

Every school has its jerkoff donors and Monday morning QBs. They don't really matter. I'd agree about the oversight being easier there but that doesn't strike me as a primary reason most coaches do or don't take a job. Very few serious coaches would take Oregon over Notre Dame.

Phil Knight's money and Chip Kelly's scheme worked wonders at Oregon for awhile. Also they caught the Pac-12 in a bit of a down cycle. But they honestly feel like a program that has hit its peak and is on the way back to being about average.

We all know this isn't happening.

None of that was accurate? Especially the recruiting part? Kelly has had to work his ass off recruiting East to West coast with little success in Hawaii. Which is fine, if you want the air miles. I present to you Oregons 2017 recruits: Oregon 2017 Football Commits , notice only 2 are from the East Coast.

So please explain why NONE of that was accurate. At ND if you get caught smoking weed you are done for atleast the semester. Oregon, you would sit out the first half against DickWad U. At ND you are not heavily scrutinized, especially by big money alums who feel they have a direct line to tell you what to do? Academics are not an issue? See: Five, Frozen also Wins, Vacated 2012-2013.

Honestly, a one-year rest stop would be fine by me. Get the guy in the door and see what he can do. Odds are 50-50 Kelly's only here another year anyway. And if things really go south, Strong is the kind of guy who could take over the program, at least interim.

To me, the biggest questions are if he wants/can find another head job worth taking (Purdue maybe?), and if he'd rather work or collect the buyout and the details of how that works.

Haven't the prior years, with academic scandals and arrests, shown that they have made concessions.

I don't see Sanford going from one dumpster to the next in regards to coaching stability.

Hire Les/Charlie Strong as DC, call Sanford the interim while we do a year long search, and see what happens with Sanford/who else comes along that's interested.

Would be amazing to get him back in that role. Recruiting ace, great guy.

Before Harbaugh scoops him. Can you imagine getting a guy like this back on the staff? I remember the high fiving on NSD when Manti was in, awesome. Please Jack, alert Kelly, provided he's staying, that Brian is a must get.

From an article in July of 2008:

2006: Barry Gallup, Konrad Reuland, Will Yeatman
2007: Armando Allen, Jimmy Clausen, Taylor Dever, Brandon Walker
2008: Dayne Crist, Joseph Fauria, Anthony McDonald, Kyle Rudolph, Dan McCarthy
2009: Dan Fox, Marlon Pollard, Ben Turk, Cierre Wood, Nicholas Tausch

*The article stated that he was the lead recruiter based on the Rivals recruiting site. Not sure how accurate that is/was. Looks like he was in charge of California.

Gotta be honest, I like Polian...but that is a less than spectacular list of ND players outside of a few.

Looking at the rest of the 2009 class, they also gave him credit for Shaq Evans, Manti, and Robby Toma. I know Weis was very involved in the Clausen and Manti recruiting.

Tough crowd.

I wish ND had someone since him that was responsible for FIVE, #1 at their position High-4 / 5 star players... with Armando Allen, Cierre Wood and Joe Fauria as his also guys. Jeebus bro.

LSU: Sources tell FootballScoop LSU has moved quickly to lock up Dave Aranda, offering an enhanced contract. LSU believes Aranda will execute the new contract shortly.

I highly doubt neither Saban nor Meyer would hire Aranda when they get to South Bend so who cares!

Not trying to be a tough crowd, just being honest. That list of players had a handful of good guys, but the majority sucked.
