Was just listening to a podcast that featured a professor from my institution that runs a website (Know Rivalry) that tracks rivalries across all major sports, both nationally and internationally.

He was with a panel of sports "experts" (media members and reporters) and stumped them with a question on the most "unbalanced" rivalry in sports in America, in terms of how one team and its fans feel about the other team.

The answer: ND vs Boston College.

ND and its fans care almost 0 about BC, whereas BC and its fans put nearly 75% of their attention towards ND as a "rival."

Boston College fans, on average, allocate 74 out of 100 rivalry points to ND. ND reciprocates with 2 points, on average. The difference is 72 points, making it the largest gap that exists between "rivals."

They've found that the biggest contributing factors are "relative dominance" and the fact that BC fans are fueled by the fact that ND essentially ignores them.

Here's the ND page if you'd like to see the metrics: Know Rivalry

That's not really what this data shows. The way they're doing the point-allocating methodology doesn't say that ND fans don't care about BC, it's just that they care more about USC and Michigan, which I don't think surprises anyone. Michigan only assigns us 12 points out of 100, but that's just because Ohio State and Michigan State exist.

Hmm I had no idea that BC fans feel that way. Crazy
It's a much bigger University rivalry than a sports rivalry. I bet if you polled alumni versus just-fans, ND-BC would be ranked significantly higher among the alumni (though certainly still not as high as USC or Michigan).

BC hates ND because everyone who has ever gone there has a Notre Dame rejection letter sitting in a drawer somewhere.

I think that's semantics. When you give ND fans a choice, they barely think of BC. They think of scUM, USC, Sparty, and Navy.

If they cared about BC like BC cared about ND, they'd allocate some points.

There exists no tailgating on this "campus"

Seriously though, terrible campus if you're looking to tailgate.

Bump.

ND needs to win the next four to prevent this season from being another disaster.

Next Saturday at noon can't come soon enough.

ESPN's algorithm dealio gives the Irish an 88.5% chance of victory. It should probably be higher, Boston College was just stomped 34-10 by Wake Forest.

BC at home in their Super Bowl is worth a few percentage points alone.

BC looked terrible yesterday. They had about as much success in the passing game as ND. Only this time, their defense didn't show up

ND fell from like 24/25...and Ohio State lost to a top five team.

But yeah Ohio State should be #11-#13 IMO.

I'm expecting a clean crisp thumping with my BP still in normal range. If not, then...

Well if this game was thought to be a trap game, it isn't anymore.

I can see a ridiculous beat down now. I actually see a score wider than the Temple game
