What are you referring to?

The line moved from -3.5 to -6 for Michigan on gameday. Quite a spike on one day. There was some discussion in the betting thread on what could mean or why it would happen.

Tuitt, how about Day with not much of anything today? Little to no penetration. At least tuitt had an int and TD. He was double teamed at times. Day was free and did nothing.

Our DBs were flat out bad. All the way accross the board.

I think that our DB's will get better, and Tuitt will get into better shape. But, we can't make Fox/Grace/Counsell/Carlo faster. They look like they were running in tar.

I think that is a bigger problem.

Their outside O Lineman are longtime starters. They aren't slouches. We were getting pressure most of the time when we wanted it, we just couldn't keep contain. Gardner moves well in the pocket, and not just when he wants to run. He slides away from pressure very well.

And lose muscle? Give up the Tuitt weight criticism. BK already commented Tuitt was eating right. A lot of forced inactivity will do that to anyone.

I don't think Tuitt has looked horrible this year. He doesn't look like last year, but Ds focus on him more now that they know how good he is.

Its widely believed that Michigan will buy the game out.

Is this true, seriously. I haven't heard a thing of this. And how stupid would that look considering the chicken card they keep playing.

This is wayy to early for me to be up but i just cant get back to sleep. Our defense just looks slow, but theres no doubt in my mind Grace should be playing every snap. Hes looks to be our best inside linebacker.
The d line was slow also, thought Jaylon played pretty well, secondary didnt look that great.
Offensively we had problems caused by being behind and trying to let Rees put the game on his back....not gonna happen. I also thought our play callng was just terrible and too conservative the first drive or two which helped us fall behind. That wr screen? Its terrible and its risky to run, throw that one out. Carlisle looked good but damn lets see the freshman get in or at least more cam. GA3 cant catch a damn cold and isnt a legit running back.
Good news is purdue isnt good so hopefully gets us back on track, oh and USC looks terrible.

Last year our LBs made our DBs look good. We don't have that this year yet. I don't think they are horrible, one on one coverage is hard for 90% of DBs. We've already lost one, and I agree with your Grace comment. Would be nice to see him learn and he plays. It won't hurt anything at this point.
I don't mind the Rees adjustments at the line. But we need to get to the line faster. The majority of the bad plays seem to happen when he was making adjustments with 5 or less seconds on the play clock. Then everyone looked rushed and half of them confused.
Cam should be the starter hands down. GAIII is a liability on passing plays when he is an option. And even tho Cam is small, he was servicable in blocking. GAIII can still run tho, but it would be great to see the freshman. As little as we've seen, they looked decent.
Unfortunately this is ND football, we play up for big games and down for ones we should dominate. No team is a walkover for me, until I see it happen. I don't know what it is or who to put the blame on, but it's been sometime since we dominated teams and won running away on a weekly basis. Even when we are up by 10+ it feels like we pull our foot off the gas.

The one thing I just don't understand is an empty backfield. I'm more mobile than Rees, especially with the bum knee he had last night. The risk just isn't worth it for me. And what happens if he was to get hurt?

Thank you mods, especially following losses like last night.

Our team made me proud we fought the whole game a few unlucky breaks helped Michigan. That interception by the defense showed how we played till the last second.

For all that have bad things to say, go play a game yourself..

Our team is going to do fine.

I was surprised and impressed by gardner. The beginning of the game i kept telling myself theres no way he could consistently make those throws but he did.

Definitely true, with a quarterback thats mobile and can extend plays and throw it can make any secondary look bad. They werent terrible but they probably could have played a little better; part of it is due to the front 7

The bold....please get the plays in faster! Even people i know that dont know too much about football were mad about that, and i remember seeing it in the past too. The plays need to come in faster or we're basically screwed without a mobile quarterback who can improvise. You gotta give Rees time to audible/hot route/and call out blitzes.

We almost have to have a rb in the backfield with rees, the guy cannot get hurt. he could have played better but people blaming the loss on him is crazy. The defense needs to make big improvements, and its not just one thing. Coaches and players both have to improve.

One loss isn't going to ruin the season. Sack up.

We can beat every team we play this yr. If we play Michigan again we win.
Turnover at half down 14 with Michigan getting ball.
T.J. pass at 2 no challenge.
Jalon missed interception.
3 pass interference on 3rd down
Pass interference on a interception that wasn't.
Missed pass that went off a leg for int.
That is what cost us the game.
That said the team played very well I thought.

Offense moved the ball fast hard runs by amir, and George. All the recievers looked great. Tommy was making the best of what he had. Hats off

Defense did the best they could we blitzed to stop gardner from running and he dink, and dunked it on us. We had them stopped very well in the second half.

All the recievers gallon stopped and ran back for the catch that's hard to defend if we play over the top. They had a few good runs, but we did a good good on run defense.

Trinity on point!

Only thing I'd add is we have to stop wasting plays throwing the ball to GA3. We have four other RBs, and I'd rather throw it to all of them.

I really don't think we played that badly. Gardner was just so much better than I had expected.

Anyone want to talk about the brutal run by amir, the Hercules style play of troy the beast? That was a killer TD by him.

Plus to top it off Tuitt getting a all effort int in the endzone?
That guy is my boy! Best defensive player in CFB.

Carlisle is so good. I'm so excited for him. I thought Atkinson ran really well too. Receiving on the other hand...we just need to know his limitations.

I wonder why Troy isn't in the game plan earlier? The dude is a freaking bulldozer get him the ball.

Amir has shown why he was such a huge recruit. He is really impressive. Has good hands and a very good blocker.

We should beat the tar out of Purdue and Michigan State. Purdue is a terrible football team and daughter could play QB for the Spartans right now. If we have any defensive strength it is defending a power running game. They will play right into that.

I'll be keeping my eye on this. They're good and are going to score a ton of points. Lots of people here thought Gardner's finish to the year was a fluke...seems like it might be real.

Michigan is very lucky that it doesn't play any elite running teams. They would get gashed up the middle my some SEC teams (UGA, Bama, etc), Wisconsin, and Stanford. I'm really annoyed they don't have to play WI who would pancake Michigan's tiny DL and LBs. Nebraska is probably the best running team they play. I thought we were going to be the best running team they play, but we didn't run the ball very much.

Kelly on declining holding penalty: "I thought about it." I thought with 3rd & long we could get off the field.

I didn't post at all last night, mainly because I passed out before the game was over.

One of my best friends, a neighbor and bike team member got engaged and will be leaving for Florida in a couple of weeks, so I had to host a bachelor/going away party for him at my place with 30+of my riding friends.

Went out and rode 54 miles with him, and then got to hang out with some of the best people you'll ever meet in your life.

We lost, but the season's not lost. Have faith brothers, there's still a lot of football to be played.

Anyone going to the Oklahomo game?

GO IRISH!

They will go to the NC game IMO if they beat OSU. They're not losing any other games.

And we were good enough to beat them. I'm optimistic about the Irish this year.

They look tough. Aggressive defense, and a hell of a playmaker. I hate them with every ounce of my being, but they look like we did last year. Team of destiny.

I don't think they're overly great, but their schedule is super weak. If OSU doesn't beat them, no one will. We could have ran for 5 yards per play all day on their defense. I'm not sold on their defense.

They beat us because they had the best play maker at the best position and it's not even close. Their coaches are not better than ours, they just have the biggest playmaker.

I agree. Don't like to be complacent, but you're spot on. I think their defense will keep them in games, and Gardner looks to be the guy.

I really don't know who to root for when they play the Buckeyes though.

Equally dislike both teams, with Michigan getting the slight F you for their thorough dismantling of our team for what seems like 1000 years.

The mark of any team is learning from the adversity you face. Commit to improving on those areas in which you need improvement, be it a player or a coach. ND will be just fine moving forward. I can only see one team left on the Irish schedule - Stanford - that can play with the Irish. And before the season started I predicted the Irish at 8-4. All is not lost... IF the focus stays on the process.

Correct. But while I give this staff at A, I also give Michigan's an A too. They are the real deal and that's what makes these match ups so fantastic. It's great entertainment from an unbiased fan's perspective.

This. If you had told me before the game that our game plan was going to be to put pressure on Gardner and force him to make mistakes, I'd have said, "Great plan." We got pressure on him ... but he didn't make mistakes. He's just better than anyone realized.

True, but Gardner was such a major player in this game, and Gallon caught everything. Honestly, their run game (minus Gardner) did nothing against our defense, and they couldn't stop our run at all. This was sickly similar to Denard beating us highhandedly, so IDK how much credit to give Hoke and company.

In honesty, our staff is 1-3 against them... You could make a good case either way at very least

I think people are giving Diaco a bit too hard of a time. There were at least 5 times where we were going to get a sack because of a great call and well-timed blitzes. But there's about 6 CFB QBs that can make the scrammble out of it. If you're facing a QB with that escapability, it doesn't mean you can't contain, it's just a really damn good play and it sucked last night.
