Not a surprise. Have to feel for these kids when that situation arises. Can't be fun for the coaches to say no either.

I just hope this kid is still interested if the remaining targets fall off the board at some point. Either way, Pitt must be p*ssing their pants.

I'm glad (or at least I hope) that our staff is being up front with these prospects and explaining the whole "we have X spots left, we would love to have you if we have room but we don't over recruit like Alabama"... always a fan of shooting kids straight, and in my experience they'll respect you for it.

We need to take all these peripheral RB's, put them in one uniform, and form a frankenstein two-gapping DT. That's what we need right now.

He should be very embarrassed in what he said in the article. Because none of it came true.

Lord, I'm sure he is. We kind of made a fool out of him.

A lot of people have no sympathy for someone who expresses that kind of arrogance, but I do. Why shouldn't he be arrogant? He's probably been the best player, or certainly among the best players, on the field every game he's played in for his whole life. Alford's constantly telling him how great he is and how much ND needs him. Everything and everyone in his life feeds that arrogance; it's not really his fault.

Then he gets to ND and we tell him, well, we would love to have you, but not as much as at least one other guy, so hold off. That's got to really hurt.

I obviously do not know Corey or Torean and all I have seen is 10 minutes of highlights. With that being said I would take Corey. Runs MUCH more physical/emotional. Torean seems very sure handed and there are clips of him at wr, but he plays almost gentle. I think both will have much success, but Corey is gonna do some damage wherever he goes.

Yeah, but we don't really need that physical kind of runner with Jamel James in the fold already, right? We need the elusive slot/RB type, which is Folston. I think that's the logic, anyway.

But if your point is just that Clement is a really promising player, I totally agree. He looks like a real stud.

Well I hope this all works out in the end. The staff is obviously closer to the situation and has a feel for how the class will close out. Just gotta keep getting it done on the field and all will work itself out!

Never thought I'd see the day we were passing on 4 star running backs.....

It's nice to have this kind of recruiting momentum. I hope 2014 prospects are taking notice and commit earlier.

I still am 50/50 on if cierre comes back. We have very limited spots left. If we make a run and win a bcs bowl we will a few 5stars wanting in. Even without wood next year we got Amir and GA3 as an elite 1-2 punch. Behind them Cam, Mahone, and James. I say wait and see at RB. Unless of course mr. Elliott calls. That kid may win a heisman.

Dude Wood is coming back unless he decides to go to the NFL or he is seriously in the dog house.

Carlisle and Atkinson are not on the same level as Wood. I think that has shown itself even in the last two games.

I agree, but if so we could have 7rbs on scholly then. Try selling that to the 14 class...

I don't see Wood leaving for the NFL after this season, it would be a massive mistake.

Before the start of the college season, most NFL scouts saw him as a 5th or 6th rounder with the possibility with a very good season he could play himself into a late 3rd rounder.

IMO he stays and Amir take Theo spot with Mahone getting spot duty when a bigger/power back is needed.

I don't see the '13 RB recruits playing at all next season. It's all about creating the depth they didn't have before so they don't have to throw one into the fire from the get go.

All to often the talent is there but there understanding isn't and those mistakes are costly and they want that Alabama like depth that you can just replace one with another and if may take a while to get there shot but when they do they are already up to speed.

I think the idea of adding more RB talent in '13 is so they can swing for the fences in '14 and only take the best of the best or none at all.

This. There's a reason certain programs are solid every year. They reload at key positions and don't have to force those kids to play right away. Kelly is doing the same in his recruiting - building depth. Talented depth creates year to year consistency.

Agreed, but most of those programs that are solid every year only honor the scholarship as one-year schollys. ND obviously honors it as a 4-year, regardless of production. When we can't tell a kid who under-performs 'hey, transfer, you aren't seeing the field', we have to be smarter at how we build that depth. Can't just go RB crazy because bama, USC, etc do.

I, too, think Wood will probably be back next year, but a blanket statement that Atkinson (who has only had a couple carries per game) and Carlisle (who hasn't played at all) are not of the same caliber remains to be seen. Let's wait until Atkinson and Carlisle see some significant action at running back before we compare them unfavorably with Wood.

So 476 yard is good for 1 game right?

Corey Clement ‏@IMYEROC2YouRIng
476 yards and 7 Tds on 14 carries #Record #teamwork

That's 34 yards per touch....

So can we just go ahead and take him? He's that back that goes to Pitt or Wisconsin then becomes a star, and then to the NFL.
