Let me separate myself, as my post was quoted in the post that started this. I think we win and we win convincingly, which I call 14+. I've just seen some fans think that we'll hang 45 on them and I'm not very confident that happens. I think we could see an easy win at 24-10 or even 30-14 I'm just not sure our offense is going to put up video game like numbers on them like some think, thats all I was saying.

These people exist? We don't put up those kinds of numbers against even the worst teams on our schedule, let alone a defense like UT's.

I really think that Strong is going to throw a lot at Malik and I'm very curious to see how he handles it. My sense is that they'll put some wrinkles in there that shake him a bit and then calms down to shred them. With that said I think I'm more worried about Texas's D than a lot of fans are.

I agree. He sees a rookie back there at QB. No different than everyone pointing to the youth on Texas side. Texas can't win if they simply line up on D and try to win man on man. I think he may blitz early to see if he can get past the O-line. If they do, I look for them to blitz a lot.

Just an opinion. I'm no pollyanna, but following sports is only worthwhile if you're emotionally invested, and being emotionally invested in a team you expect to lose every week is bad for your health. So if you can't even muster some optimism for the UT game (a matchup in which we've got a ton of advantages), it might be time to consult your doctor about whether NDFB is right for you.

Yea, as a member of multiple message boards I've seen some fairly aggressive scores and not just by a few.

I guess my point is that when the end of the season comes and we have averaged around 35pts/game (example), this game will be below whatever that average ends up being. They will play our offense better than a majority of teams we play. I'm really thinking of like a 27-14 game.

Now, I hope we blow the F'ing doors off of them just don't see it.

I said 42-24.... :/

Our defense needs to show me something before I predict that they will hold teams to 2 scores or less.

The same could be said for Tyrone Swoops, he's looked downright terrible at times. However, your point is duly noted.

We put up 40 four times last year. I think if there is one unit to be confident in... it's the ND offense. Kelly has earned the benefit of the doubt IMO.

I came to the conclusion that NDFB was bad for my health right around 2006ish... I'm trying to be less invested honestly... in all of my sports teams... none more so than ND though as they have prob taken a few years off my life already (totally serious)... I find just giving up hope entirely as to ever regaining lost glory is easier to handle. With that said, my honest expectation for this season is not much better than any other recent year... 8-9 wins with a couple (or more) wtf games and heartbreaks. I do however expect ND to win this Saturday, but I won't be shocked at all if UT comes out and beats us.

To add to this, on Power Hour this week Bill Reagan said he expects a high scoring game. I believe he said he wouldn't be surprised if it went into the 40's.

I'm personally looking forward to calling my doctor early Sunday morning after witnessing ND turning Bevo into steak........thus giving me an erection lasting longer than 4 hours.

He thinks that they too score that much?

Texas defense and running game scares the crap out of me.

Side effects include dizziness, headaches, nausea, heart palpitations and high blood pressure. If you experience any of these, stop watching NDFB immediately and call your doctor.

UT ranked 7th in Defensive S & P+ last year. Strong will have to replace some production from last year's unit, but they're still projected to be very good. For comparison, LSU ranked 9th last year, and we scored 31 against them.

The only way we hang 40+ on UT's defense is if they're much worse than projected, or our offense is Oregon-level awesome. Neither of those scenarios is totally implausible, but the safe money is on a comfortable and low-scoring victory.

I also didn't know that the two frosh OLinemen unseated upperclassmen to get their starting roles. That's a whole different ball game than starting freshman out of need. Reagan holds their oline coach, Wickline, in high regard and thinks their line will be a strength.

I'm tempering my 21+ pt victory prediction but still think we should win comfortably. Honestly, I'm all in on this team and the leaders we have. I expect Kelly to get this team ready.

Or if Swoopes throws a few gifts to our secondary.

He said he expects a shootout.

If this turn into a shootout than our defense is certifiably F'd versus Clemson, GT, and USC. I'll be pissed as shit if our D can't keep this team in check.

I caveat this with I do not know the ins and outs of advanced stats, so some of this may be factored in.

1. We put up a lot of points last year without much red zone success. I think that changes this year and we will turn more FGs into touchdowns.
2. I think our defense will be at least marginally better than they were at the end of last year which will leave us with better field position and/or points off turnovers.
3. I have been drinking CJ Sanders Kool-Aid for the past 3 months and expect him to flip the field or take a few to the house.

Given those factors, I don't think it is totally unreasonable to predict 40+. Also, I'm a homer.

Regarding the bolded, I personally don't think any low-scoring victory will be "comfortable" given our recent defensive woes. I think the only way have an easy win is if we blow them out on offense.

I agree 100%, I was surprised when he said that. I will actually be disappointed if they score 21, even if we put up 40+.

TX had 59 total yards against Ark in their bowl game last year. 59. Total. Yards.

Strong said before the season that if an upperclassmen was tied with a freshman, then they lose their spot. I don't believe that either guy getting beat out was a starter last year either.

One was slid to tackle and as to the other I'm not sure on the snaps he took last year, but he has been in a college weight program for 3+ years and he's getting beat out by an 18yr old kid. You can look at that as the freshman must be outstanding, or the upperclassmen sucks I suppose.

I think you guys are missing a huge aspect. They have very little depth. I am looking at it from the standpoint of it changes the way coaches scheme from practice all the way to game day. Its hard to be aggressive when you fear injuries.
It also takes away the competition factor amongst players. Its hard to get better when you don't have someone behind you pushing you.
