@ChuckCarltonDMN: Texas, which hasn't dropped a season opener since 1999 at NC State, is a 9.5-pt underdog at Notre Dame http://t.co/n45oSO9iJz

That's not really saying much considering who they've played since then:

2000: UL Lafayette
2001: New Mexico State
2002: North Texas
2003: New Mexico State again
2004: North Texas again
2005: UL Lafayette again
2006: North Texas AGAIN
2007: Arkansas State
2008: Florida Atlantic
2009: UL Monroe
2010: Rice
2011: Rice again
2012: Wyoming
2013: New Mexico State AGAIN
2014: North Texas AGAIN!

I'm putting all my chips in on this one-I think Notre Dame opens some eyes on the national scale after this one.

Those teams are perennially ranked by Sagarin in the # 75-150 range.

Cautiously optimistic. Texs D is decent, offense unknown but has talent.
To me, this game is all about ND DEFENSE dictating game pace and allowing ND offense time to ram it down Texas' throat.
Please, no turnovers.

One thing I want to see, IF we get a sizable lead I want to see us continue to pound them. At times in recent years we would get a big lead and then somehow let off the gas or do stupid things and we end up beating Syracuse by only 16 (or whatever it was) when that game had no right being any closer than 23 or 24 points.

Now, this is Texas so I'm not asking for a 31 point beat down, just please if you get up by 2 touchdowns...avoid those little errors and bizarre turnovers that turns a laugher into a game I have to watch with intense interest.

running up the score isnt always the most productive thing though in the long run, you want to get your backups in the game, try out new combinations and try and rep the plays you feel like your team need the most work on.

GAME WEEK!!!!

And If ND is a playoff contender, they blow out this Texas team... They have a sub par offense that shouldn't score more than 17... If we don't put up 28 or better, my faith will drop a lot in this squad

Does Strong have a game week presser? Is BK's going to be Tuesday at noon again this year?

To be fair, he is talking about our blitz as a whole (ie Jaylon, KRuss, Day, etc), as their offensive line is in shambles. If they cant push the middle of the line, then they are absolutely screwed.

That's why I am feeling so confident. They really match up poorly on their offensive line against us. Having an inexperienced, and not especially talented, offensive line in their first game against an experienced, talented and exotic blitz scheme. Just spells bad news for whichever crappy QB they throw out there (i'm assuming Swoopes has won the job?).

Did they announce there depth chart yet? I heard talks of them starting two true freshmen on the line

I don't believe they have. I'm pretty sure they haven't even named a starting QB yet, although most believe Swoopes will be the guy with a sprinkling of Heard. Charlie Strong said that we would see both.

I found it interesting that someone commented on the Longhorn board that they moved Perkins (their only decent lineman) to tackle. Why was a 6'5"/330 pound fella playing on the inside to begin with?

Anybody got a good link to the most up to date assumptive lineup?

Isn't 330 pretty damn heavy for a tackle?

Their weak O-line is my primary reason for thinking we man handle these guys. If Kelly is ever going to defer the opening kick-off this is the time.

Hopefully we can get a ton of QB pressure against this decimated O-line and our front 7 gains a lot of confidence going forward.
