I thought this was the most interesting part of the presser. It sounded to me, listening to Kelly's answer, like he basically thinks the OL is doing a great job run blocking ... its the TEs and WRs who need to step it up (he didn't mention them but that was the clear implication).

Not sure that I buy that. If our 5 OL were all competent run blockers, we'd be able to pick up 3-4 yards consistently on inside runs. That wasn't happening against MSU or Purdue (2.4 and 2.5 YPC, respectively).

3rd and 2. Empty backfield. QB draw with Tommy. If that doesn't surprise the defense, nothing will lol.

Maybe. I'll look at it again when the transcript comes out. I was doing other stuff at work while listening so I may have misunderstood but I thought he was trying hard to say that it's not the OL's fault without explicitly calling out the TEs and WRs.

You both are right. But if you listen to BK's mantra it is about exerting your will at times. Also, he was particularly clear he wasn't going to lay it at the feet of his five interior linemen.

It will be interesting to see how we run against a 3-3-5.

Last year we struggled against a few like Stanford with our tight end and WR blocking. But they were solid.

Timing is a problem this year with the backs (except Cam) and Tommy. Cam rides the asses of his blocking like a surfer on a wave. The other guys seem to be looking for an inside guy, when their first decision should be the contain man, or at least outside in, shouldn't it? If they are even with an inside man they are ahead, right? Now look back at the plays. The most brilliant example of a RB getting it this year is GAIII cut back inside on the double reverse. He knew the inside man wasn't getting him.

this actually scares me for Tommy on wr's throws but should open up the running/TE game

The press conferences don't sound the same to me. Kelly is blowing some smoke and not telling what he really wants to say. But he also IMO is coaching with regret for not taking the eagles job. He doesn't seem to be the Same coach as last year.

Yes. It's technically a base Dime package, which should be effective in the pass happy Big-12, but vulnerable to a power rushing team. So the way our offense has operated over the first four games is not going to fly against OU.

i dont buy it. BK has been all over this year in his run game comments. He has mentioned the right side is a work in progress, then he says the o line is fine, then he says ronnie stanley isn't fitting in or whatever he said. I think he has said a focus on the run game the last two weeks. Believe it when I see it at this point.

We def. run the ball at our best out of 12 but as I see it right now Kelly doesn't trust Koyack enough to stay in it.

I honestly think Kelly and co made a decision to focus on pass pro during camp knowing we would need it most and the run scheme can build as they go. I only say that because I don't see any reason why a team that can pass pro this well shouldnt be able to average above 3 ypc.

he has different players especially at key positions qb,oline, ilb,s he most certainly has to adapt to what he has..that's a good coach

On a related note, where the hell is Alex Welch? If he's half the blocker that he's been reported to be, he'd have jumped Koyack for the #2 spot already, but he's barely seen the field this year.

Regardless, we won't be able to pass our way to victory against the Sooners. I hope we base out of 12 personnel to get the run game going, and then make better use of our TEs and short/ intermediate routes to stay ahead of the chains.

I honestly think Kelly and co made a decision to focus on pass pro during camp knowing we would need it most and the run scheme can build as they go. I only say that because I don't see any reason why a team that can pass pro this well shouldnt be able to average above 3 ypc.

It's definitely strange.

I think that quote is a bit out of context. BK said that Stanley has been solid, but because we played such a strong schedule (3 big 10 teams) he has not been able to easy into the position by playing weaker competition.

This. Kelly was basically saying that he is pleased with the way Stanley has played, especially because he's been baptized by fire, having to play 3 B1G opponents in his first 4 games.

I'm having dreams about our 12 personnel establishing the run early and opening up some play action in the 2nd and 3rd quarters.

I'm having nightmares about 5 DBs dropping into zone and Tommy throwing intermediate routes OR THOSE GOD DAMN WR SCREENS.

Since the team has been so inconsistent this year, I am going into this game with an "anything can happen" attitude. It seems like in the games up to this point we have convinced ourselves things are going to go one way and then we get sorely disappointed, but then still manage to (mostly) win the games. Too much over-analysis makes Jack a dull boy.

Oh man, couldn't have said it better. I truly don't know what to expect. I feel like no result could shock me in this game. I could see us dominating this game offensively ... I could also see OU dominating us offensively.

I'm tempted to say this game will come down to red zone offense/defense. Both teams will move the ball. The team that wins will be the team that sticks it in the end zone instead of settling for field goals. Here's to hoping for some improvement in that department.

ND wins if their fronts dominate again . Tommy has time to complete the deep ball . Last year Golson scared me , this year it's George Atkinson that scares me .

That should probably be one of the least of your worries

Since this thread's getting quite a bit more activity again, I'm asking again.

Any tips on parking the RV lot near Juniper & Pendle? From my research, I'm assuming that's about the only place you can park an RV. I believe it opens up at 8am and you can't buy a parking pass in advance. I just imagine a free for all traffic jam of RVs.

You got all that from a pre-game press conference. Hmmmm.

Yeah, as far as I know, you've got it right. The RV lot used to be much closer to the stadium and it was way better, but you'll still get a really nice tailgating atmosphere out there.

Only tip I'd give you is don't let yourself get trapped out there by staying at the tailgate too long, especially if you plan on taking the shuttles into the stadium. In fact, I'd avoid the shuttles and just walk if you feel up to a stroll. It's far, maybe a mile, but it's kind of nice to walk through campus and get some of the game-day atmosphere.

One of my favorite things to do when I parked out there used to be to save a little room in my stomach, pack a road soda for the walk and stop at the Knights of Columbus "tailgate" at the Sacred Heart Parish Center by the lake on the way to the stadium. Awesome steak sandwiches. Don't know if they still do that or not; it's been a few years since I parked north of the stadium. You'll probably have plenty of good food, but it might be worth asking about. (This plan made more sense when I was a broke kid who didn't have enough up-front money to get both both beer and food for the tailgate ... under those circumstances, we cut out the food).
