I see both sides - respecting the enemy, and his (thus far) ability to strike right through our defense, and also the other side of the coin, where our defense appears to be rounding into the form we thought it would be when we recruited these players.
This defense has become the identity of the team. It's led by Manti and KLM. There's no way they're going to come into this overlooking Denard and his ability, so we shouldn't either.
But at the same time, they're going to be confident. As they should be. Michigan's defense is the weakness of their team, while ours is the strength. So, to help figure this out, does our offense have the ability to beat their defense? That's what the game will hinge on, as long as we contain Denard like we did last year, minus the ridiculous pass coverage.
As so many others have said, we have strength in the numbers of our backfield. We control the line of scrimmage, we run the ball, we win.
And I'll agree with Buster - that video makes me sick.
Oh and NDNation blows. That is all.
In 1988, the quarterback from ND was starting his 3rd career game against Michigan State.
In 2012, the quarterback from ND was starting his 3rd career game against Michigan State.
Tony Rice started 6 games in 1987 (4-2 W/L). He started due to injury to starting QB Terry Andrysiak.
WTF?
Careful. Purging dissenting opinions and controlling the message are NDNation traits, where I am not a member for that very reason.
But to the content of my post: Do you think we're going to have to score more points than we did against PU/MSU to win?
Don't get hard Peter, Italics, do you know the use of them?
Did you see the player interview yesterday? KLM's specifically. Did you see what he said. Something to the effect that you know, we were getting pretty good, and that other teams are starting to have to plan to deal with us.
So it is like this. There is a line __________ . On one side is the group of people that think only Denard needs to be planned for. That group includes all WW homers, those so called Irish fans that are throwing a fit over the fact that Kelly is finally winning and finally the otherwise fearful. (Pussies included.)
The other side of the line contains those thinking, feeling, rational and otherwise loving fans that think game planning is a two way street. I think Michigan has more to plan for this year than Notre Dame does. What do you really think? Where do you stand? WHO IS WITH ME?
Yes sir.Sometimes guys, you just have to sit back, put your feet up, and enjoy the ride....
I am. I am with everyone on this board who has sat by and watched our beloved Irish lose games we should, games we shouldn't, and everything else in between. I am with you. I am with this team. I believe in these guys, I believe in Coach Kelly. Why not us? Why not now?
I think they do but I also take comfort in the fact that UMs d is not as good as PU/MSU, so I believe we put up much more than 20 also. Denard vs ND's D is the battle in this game IMO....that and no TOs by ND.
with this game you can throw everything out the window. I dunno if we can win this one I just dunno if we can. I hope we too but after 3 years of heartbreak I just dont believe we can I hope that can change this year.
FLDomer, a chara,
Sorry but it is not the battle in this game. It is not even the most significant front. Our o-line against their d-line is, as OMM and Me2 have so eloquently pointed out. If we rip gaping holes in their defense and can do what we want on the ground, it becomes much harder for the Drob. More than the difference of whether Shembo can get by some tackle and rip Drob's head off.
I want to sit in ND stadium w Bogs in full throat. Beastly.
Rudy, my man, I'm not trying to give you a hard time but do you live your life in nervous shakes? I think you might be the most shook fan I've seen on this site and let me also say, I understand.
But, let me help you. Instead of focusing on how many times Notre Dame Football has hurt you, focus on the progress that has been made the last three years. Look closer into this "program" and acknowledge the leaps and bounds it has made.
- Recruitment of pure athletes, capable of playing multiple positions.
- Recruitment of program changing talent at crucial poitions. (Tuitt, Nix, Day, Ishaq, Keivare, Shumate etc etc).
- The true development of said players and extraordinary improvements in the previously enrolled. (Shembo, KLM, Motta and yes, even Te'o)
- Small, vital changes. (Training table, discipline/rules, extraction of entitlement)
- PAUL LUONGO and for that matter, the rest of this incredible staff.
- The difference in Brian Kelly from day 1 to now. Listen to his speeches at MSU, he knows it's time to let the dogs off the chain. He never spoke to his team like he did that night, on the road, against a top 10 team. His plan is coming to a crescendo and everyone on that campus knows it.
Last year we were up 24-7 going into the 4th quarter. We gave the ball away 5 times in that game alone. Tell me Rudy, what has been the most significant improvement with the offense this year?
That's right, turnovers. UM needs turnovers to win this game.
Our defense has the necessary depth to go 4 quarters and has shown to be disciplined and unforgiving so far.
If the guys come out and play mistake free, run oriented football, Michigan does not have the horses to keep up. The nerves are normal, especially when you understand that anything could happen on Saturdays. But, look closer at the program, open up to the excitement surrounding them (it's justified) and drop the anxiety.. Bragging and talking smack is a lot more fun anyway.
