71 scholarship players available for this game. And that 71 includes quite a few "warm bodies" with 0% chance of contributing.

We're going to be playing this season with darn near Penn State scholarship levels. If the injury big hits us per usual, we'll be in serious trouble. If we avoid injuries to S, CB, DL, OL, and DOG we'll probably be alright.

Is it too late for me to try out?
Seven kickers tried out during fall camp after a 2011 season that featured one hiccup after another. Jon Teague missed five field goals and four extra points in a year when the Midshipmen lost five games by three or fewer points. That battle is expected to continue until the opener in Ireland. Nick Sloan won the competition last week with fellow freshman Austin Grebe a close second. Sophomore Colin Amerau will travel to Dublin, Ireland to serve as the kickoff specialist.

Who needs NCAA sanctions? With injuries, defections and suspensions, #NotreDame will have 70 scholarship players available against #Navy.

Yikes, that is not good. What are the injury #'s? We have 4 out due to suspension and Prestwood and Lynch are gone.

Full Kool-Aid Glass half-full analysis: ND football plays really well this year and they have more spots available for late flippers!

Since those 2 are gone and no longer on scholarship Can we add to 2 scholarships this year or do we have to wait till next year?

Edit: thanks FLDomer, forgot about him.

Injuries:
Carrico (Medical hardship)
Roberson (Medical hardship)
Spond (unknown duration)
Lo Wood (season)
Welch (season I believe)
Nichols (should be back pretty soon, but not for Navy game)
Collingsworth (season)

Suspended:
Rees
Calabrese
Wood
Utupo

Transfer or w/e:
Lynch
Prestwood

That would put us at 83 and we were already short a couple schollies to begin with.

So does that mean we pick up 4 scholarships this class?

This game is being played in Dublin, Ohio according to Jesse Palmer just moments ago on ESPN.

I'm going to have to drive up SR-315 and scalp some tickets!

yes, I suppose, at the end of last season, the magic number was 24, now it is 28.

We have 19 commits for 2013, so there are 9 more spots open for 5th years and more 2013 recruits.

Then they'll be playing in torrential rain from Issac.

Well good thing only 22 players play

A lot more than 22 players play.

And the injuries/suspensions/defections were mostly to guys that would have either started or been on the 2 deep. Think about it...we lost our starting DB, RB, ILB, blocking TE, nickleback/possible starting S with Slaughter moving to DB, freshman AA DE, back-up tackle, and the other back-up tackle.

SO it's not just a matter of only 22 guys playing, it's waaaaayyyy more than that. It's about losing quality players, it's about losing quality depth and being one injury away from having walk-ons in the 2 deep, it's about burning guys out in practice b/c there aren't enough back-ups, it's about worrying about hitting in practice b/c of injuries, etc etc etc. There's a reason we keep saying USC is in trouble, and it's because they lack bodies in practice and they'll lack capable back-ups when they play up-tempo teams like Oregon.

Good thing we get guys back from suspension, where USC is already hurting with numbers (Kiffy already mandated this weekend to all USC reporters that they can't talk about injuries at practice anymore). But make no mistake, ND could be really hurting with numbers if this trend continues...

I'll be overseas for this game. Anyone know the best website where to watch this game?

CBS Sports' broadcast of Notre Dame-Navy also will be streamed live on CBSSports.com and CBS Sports Mobile, including iPads and iPhones. All digital platforms will feature a live chat throughout the game.

Where will you be?

I understand but most of these guys will be back in a couple of weeks. Rees and Calobrese will be back next week, Cierre Wood will be back in 2 weeks, Spond will be back at any time, and Tate Nichols will probably be back for the Purdue game. Everything will be fine

It seems like some of you guys think we are going to lose on Saturday for some reason. The negativity on here is out of control.

Negativity?

Because LAX noted 71 available? Because NDinL.A. noted injuries?

Both pragmatic comments. Last year ND played 51 against UM a game which went to the wire. Far cry from 22, wasn't it? Against USC 56 played. Against Navy 58.

In Davie's first or second year there were 82 or 83 scholarship players when the season started by the Stanford game there was 56 or 57 available to play. ND had 4 MLBs banged up or seriously injured. Davie had a who was a defensive coach had a soph walk-on playing in the middle because he ran out of bodies. Stanford ran all over ND due to the drop in talent and no more bodies to rotate in.

Injuries are part of the game but when you play a loaded schedule with FCS cream puffs the injuries and dinged players come quicker. Both Martins get banged up there's big trouble as there's no Prestwood available. I like Stanley but he's not 20 year old OT with 3 years of Div 1 development.

If Russell turns an ankle and Jackson gets his bell rung making a tackle? ND used 3 QBs due to injuries, eye poke, knee from a sack. It happens. Do you think Kiel ready to play 40 minutes? Kelly is going to run "call and haul". Hope our QBs hold up.

How many get players banged up each year from Navy's blocking scheme?

ND I'd thin in a number of positions. Depth at Dline doesn't help if corners go down.

Negativity? No, common sense. It's imperative ND stays healthy.

I guess everyone's questions will be answered on Saturday..
