This is a very fair and probably accurate ranking at this point. Can't wait to prove it on the football field come September.

Can someone explain to me how Texas AM is #9. I thought the got killed in their bowl game? Cant remember what bowl it was, but i know LSU beat them.

Also surprised to see South Carolina is only at #12.

VT is over ranked again just like last year.

And I think out ranking at is perfect. We could maybe be a few spots higher IMO but id rather surprise everyone with the Shock and Awe tactics after the first 3 weeks.

GO IRISH!!!

Im fine with where we are. We either move up as the season goes on or move out. This will allow us to climb to the top.

A few spots higher? I think our ranking is generous. We did finish with a record of 8-5.

If you look at it from any other fan's perspective, we are probably way overrated.

I am a little disappointed in MSU's ranking. I understand why most observers are cautious about their 2010 record but I was hoping they would be around the top ten when they visit South Bend.

It would also be nice to ruin Stanford's chances at an undefeated season when the Irish go to California. I will be rooting for the Cardinal when Oregon pays them a visit in November.

Take a look at VaTechs' schedule this year. It is absolutely pathetic.. Even though they lost a lot offensively, there is a very good chance they run the table. Maybe they lose to Miami or Clemson and maybe we pound them in a BCS bowl. That would be nice for me b/c I work with a Hokie fan and he is insufferable.

I am really surprised the Irish are ranked higher than Mississippi State. They did an absolute prison style violation on the skunkbears last year.

Yea really.. a 52-14 smackdown.

After looking it up Miss St returns pretty much all of their key offensive players too.. The only negative is on defense where they lose all three starting LBs.

Not sure I understand why people get so fired up about rankings that, at this point, mean absolutely nothing.
Of course we're all starving for anything new to discuss at this point...and perhaps its my age, but I can't get too fired up about rankings until the middle of October.

By a few spots I mean maybe 2 or 3 spots higher. Nothing more. I know we were only 8-5 but as you know last years record doesnt exactly dictate where you fall in this pre season ranking. Agian Im going to bring up Texas AM, they finished 9-4 and they are ranked #9 on this list. I dont understand that one at all.

GO IRISH!!!

Well Georgia was 6-7 last year.

Texas 5-7.

Penn State 7-6.

All of those teams have more question marks than we do.

Well A&M returns a lot of starters. They have a really tough defense. Nice balance on offense with a great running game. 9-4 yes, but they did beat Oklahoma and Nebraska last year.

Sounds about right.

I'm not a believer in pre-season polls, but since they do exist I would agree .... somewhere between 15th & 20th "sounds about right". IF the Irish play up to their potential (and experience), they should climb in the polls rather quickly!

Dont remember a whole lot about there defense last year, but i'll take your word for it. A win against Oklahoma helps, but i guess im just stubborn. From what i remeber, Nebraska kinda fell apart at the end of the season. So that doesnt necessarily hold that much weight for Texas AM. Also LSU beat them pretty easily in the bowl game. Just dont see how that justifies them coming in at #9.

But like some have been saying. Its only preseason rankings, and the dont mean jack diddly. So maybe im getting annoyed for no reason.

GO IRISH!!!

I think Stanford is highly overrated. Last year they had virtually no one lost to injury, even for one game. That will not happen again. They lost their coach. They lost a sizable number of starters, especially on the lines.

As an aside, we were in the Standford game until the forth quarter; our team was in better condition than the year before, but they only had proper conditioning, diet and coaching for a few months or so and they just ran out of gas, especially on defense.
I wouldn't expect this to happen again.
