So what's going on with Alabama's recruiting? Right now they're ranked 46th behind Houston and Colorado. Is it just a weird cycle or are they expecting to close late with a ton of guys?

2 reasons:
Assistant turnover, they need to build relationships with top recruits all over again (nature of being successful)

They don't need a big class this year because of what they did last year. They are being picky

Getting even uglier at Ole Miss. The story sounds to me like Bjork may have some explaining to do.

Tough to have sympathy for the protagonist in the article-- he gave rides, food, and lodging...but only accidentally. Yeah, sure, whatever, Farrar. No reasonable person can believe anything you say after that.

Props to the bookstore owner for suing the mississippi state players.

ncaa is a total joke. Leo Lewis admits to taking money from 2 schools...but remains eligible to play for mississippi state. And by that same token, No-neck Mullen and missiissippi state are pieces of shit for allowing him (and his compatriot) to stay on the team.

I think it is a fluff piece on Farrar. He knew what was going on and even is mentioned in the NCAA response to Ole Miss as having been involved in several violations.

As far as Leo Lewis... I agree that he probably should not be playing but the NCAA made the deal to get more goods on Ole Miss. As far as any substantial proof that he got money from Miss State, I haven't seen that just yet.

Not sure he got money from them, but didn't the article say he admitted to receiving money from 2 schools? My point is that the dude accepted money from 2 different schools-- he is clearly not an "amateur" athlete. Not an ethical one either. Why keep somebody like that on your team? Oh wait, it's mississippi state.

Rumors swirling that a bunch of Florida players were busted for credit card fraud.

Recognize anybody?

Those top two are conjecture based on this guy's story. He says no Zaire, and it wasn't the big deal being reported:

As Florida’s 247 Sports blog Gator Bait first reported, Callaway, defensive end Keivonnis Davis, offensive tackle Kadeem Telfort, defensive lineman Richerd Desir-Jones, defensive lineman Jordan Smith, linebacker James Houston, and linebacker Ventrell Miller were all suspended for “misuse of school-issued funds.” Specifically, they used scholarship funds to buy electronics at the school bookstore before reporting their student ID cards as stolen. Some players sold the wares for cash afterwards and some cards didn’t have the right amount of money on them to begin with, officials confirmed to ESPN.

Haha how dumb can they be?

That's gotta be one of the most easily-traceable crimes ever.

Also of note: Faculty, staff and regular students at most institutions would get dismissed and probably have pretty serious criminal charges brought against them for that kind of fraud. Schools don't play when it comes to their money and/or the government's money.

Athletes got them flack jackets.

I truly wonder what Notre Dame's response would be to this issue, especially around a repeat offender?

Report: Hugh Freeze’s Calls to Escort Services Lined Up With Recruiting Trips

Ole Miss athletic director Ross Bjork said in response to questions from the Journal about Freeze’s travel that the university’s investigation uncovered “calls of a similar nature” over the course of several years, often matching up with travel logs showing the coach’s use of the school plane. The school said it examined his travel logs from peak recruiting times—often November, December and January—when Freeze would travel out of state, using the school plane and other public resources.

The analysis of Freeze’s travel showed he had called “other phone numbers that when you Google them pull up similar type websites,” athletic director Ross Bjork told the Journal.

Hugh has two options as I see it. When he testifies to the NCAA he will either have to say the escorts were for him thus ruining his marriage or he will have to say the escorts were lined up for recruits thus ruining Ole Miss - if that is even more possible at this point. Wonder which one he chooses? Interesting times in the Grove.

There's a story here, and $$$$ to be made from it. The hookers will definitely talk too. Honesty is the best policy for Freeze.

False. There are three options.

#3 - get a job at Louisville...the university which employs a man who has had coaches pay for escorts for players and who has paid for his mistress's abortion (Rick Pitino) and the man who got his face beaten in for sleeping around (Bobby Petrino).

Surely they can find him a job. He's a clear cultural fit!

Freeze needs some solid support. No way does a coach at a school like this go rogue without university approval of sorts. If he can deliver the message correctly without sounding like a big pile of shit, he could take the whole university down. Not saying that should save him anything but I would bet, if he can take a lot of others above him down too, he will find a Power 5 job in the next 3 years. Maybe a Maryland or Minnesota job but still. Something to get his chance again with the big boys.
