He's just trying to up the bidding war until every member of his family gets a new car...

Freeze was down there today to "visit" Little. That's gonna be Hugh's downfall. Can't be associated with the handing off of $. Rookie.
i don't think he made the trip...he was supposed to come down to see his game tonight and just so happened to be the day he commits...sounds like bama's bag man got there a tad early and shut this down
Why? Saban to the NFL didn't work once, why would it work this time? Saban is a college coach, and a damn good one. I think he's smart enough to realize what a great situation he's in right now. That's why he ignored the Brink's truck that Texas was trying to park at his house.I didn't know where else to post this, and I don't know if it's already been talked about. Apparently the Colts' owner is pretty set on trying to lure Saban to the NFL bringing out all the stops. What are your thoughts?
More talk that Jim Irsay may fire Chuck Pagano, hire Nick Saban | ProFootballTalk

Mississippi's OOC schedule included a FCS game, two Bottom 25 games, and Memphis.
As we head into the final weekend of the regular season, the SEC could not be more of a mess. Alabama's clearly the best team in the conference, and South Carolina is clearly the worst. Good luck sorting through the rest of it though.
Florida was supposedly the solid second option, but they've looked questionable at best the last few weeks, culminating in a near-loss to a now 2-9 Florida Atlantic team. Arkansas had been the hottest team in the conference, but Dak Prescott and the Bulldogs just put an end to that in a shootout in Fayetteville. LSU was considered one of the best teams in college football a few weeks ago; now there are reports that Les Miles will be let go at the end of the year.
It's been a crazy season in the SEC, and really, the conference has been as down as it's been in some time. Outside of the Crimson Tide, is there really any team that would warrant a spot in an access bowl outside of the SEC tie-in with the Sugar Bowl? Florida will probably occupy that spot, but good luck to the Gators trying to outscore Baylor, Oklahoma, or Oklahoma State in that one.
"I think the SEC should have 25 teams ranked in the top 25. They didn't quite use all of them or rank second teams. This league is as good as any league in America."
In addition to last year’s deficit, Louisiana’s free college tuition program, TOPS, is estimated to be short $19 million this year, and the Medicaid program is expected to face a gap that legislative analysts said could reach up to $300 million.
The LSU power struggle was bizarre, and bizarre is where Les Miles thrives - SBNation.com
Forbes Welcome
Louisiana state budget shortfal of $100 million and potential repercussions may have played a role.
State officials estimating Louisiana ended latest fiscal year in the red | The Advocate — Baton Rouge, Louisiana
So far this year, the SEC is underwhelming outside of the ACC, 2-2
Big 10(1-0) 1. Alabama 35, Wisconsin 17
Big 12(0-2) 1. Tennessee 24, Oklahoma 31
2. Arkansas 24, Texas Tech 35
Pac-12(1-0) 1. Texas A&M 38, Arizona St 17
Their 3-0 record (South Carolina 17, North Carolina 13, Auburn 31, Louisville 24, LSU 34, Syracuse 24) against ACC teams is not exactly breath-taking.
Four more games - all vs ACC teams will determine if they are better or worse than .500:
Florida - Florida State
South Carolina - Clemson
Kentucky - Louisville
Georgia - Georgia Tech
I don't like conference comparisons but have to go with this until we have more SEC teams playing P5 games - and home and home games.
Have to believe the budget shortfall played into this. Even if a booster would have supplied the buyout, the results wouldn't have looked good as questions would arise as to why the booster wouldn't donate that money to the school.
Combing through the terms of Miles' contract subsequent to your reply shows Miles' buyout changes the picture somewhat and would be less. The $15 million buyout quoted is reduced by this year's salary of $4 million to $11 million. He is obligated to seek similiar employment and the buyout would be reduced by that school's salary. If he did not coach again the lenght of buyout payment would be spread out over twice the length of his contract, which ends in 2019. That works out to $800,00 per year.
Another clause prohibits him from coaching at Michigan or suffering a penalty.
The school only pays him $300,000 a year with much of the rest ($3.45 million) paid by "media payments".
Finally, one bonus clause is that his salary/compensation will jump to $100,000 more than the highest paid SEC coach (Saban at $6.9 million) if he wins a national championship.
LSU's buyout for Les Miles could be $11 million, subject to interpretation

The devil's in the details.
Are you implying that Miles was retained due to his buyout?
Sort of, but more so do to the fact that the school is facing severe budget short falls and would look irresponsible to be paying for 2 coaches 1 active, 1 fired when the school is about to loose 80% of its state funding due to budget cuts. Can't really convince the public to throw away 15 million buyout plus X millions for a new coach while simultaneously announcing the reduction by half of projected faculty hires.
The reason I asked is the fact that is was widely reported that boosters had already agreed to pay whatever money was owed to Miles.
True, but see my earlier post. It would still look bad.
No doubt but I would guess outside money plays a large role at many institutions. Whether it is money well spent could be debated I guess. As far as the state of La and their economic conditions, I don't know much about it.
