You guys are crazy. The answer is 1984… and it's not even close.

I still like 1982 to edge out 1984. When you have a close contest you have to compare similar strengths: Star Trek. While Christopher Lloyd is always awesome in Star Trek III, he's not enough to save the movie from the Wrath of Khan.

- Purple Rain
- Ghostbusters
- Indiana Jones & The Temple of Doom
- The Karate Kid
- The Terminator
- The Neverending Story
- The Nightmare on Elm Street
- Footloose
- Sixteen Candles
- This is Spinal Tap
- Red Dawn
- Gremlins
- The Natural
- Beverly Hills Cop
- Revenge of The Nerds
- Children of The Corn
- Romancing The Stone
- Star Trek III
- Friday The 13th - The Final Chapter
Not sure how serious you are so I don't want to offend you.....but......, while I have many sentimental reasons loving everyone of the movies on this list, I can honestly say that only Spinal Tap and The Terminator are "top" movies out of that group. Maybe The Natural and CotC.

I would say that those are two of the lowest. Are you high?

Purple Rain is a timeless classic, if you don't like it, we are mortal enemies.

Ghostbusters!!!

The Nightmare on Elm St is one of the best horror movies every made.

Half of the most famous '80 movie genre movies happened in '84.

No way. Ghostbusters, Indiana Jones, and Karate Kid were all movies that were on par or better than the ones you listed. Better than Spinal Tap for sure, but not necessarily better than Terminator.

I don't like Purple Rain..... there I said it.... Damn....I am sorry. Shiela E is and will be totally smashable though.

NoES is like a Top 10 horror film but IDK, I was never a boogie man guy. It was almost comical. Those movies are definitely definitive of the time period but I don't think they have the qualities that other years presented have.

Terminator was epic, Spinal Tap is a comic tour de Force by legendary comedians.

So... you want to live the glamorous life cacky?

To be honest... I didn't really get the whole Purple Rain Prince thing back then. However, I have come to appreciate his unbelievable talent as a musician in my more "mature" years. Same with people like Hall and Oates. Listening to Abandoned Lunchenette today makes me appreciate their early work even more.

Best Year In Film?

Pretty good piece.

1984 loses to 1987 btw.

I did not know that 1954 and 1957 had such awesome films. Two really good years.

Meh, one guy's opinion? I would have given more credence to it if the match ups were a result of online poll. The guy lists '99 as the best year in film. The guy didn't even include one of the better films of '99, Fight Club. He put Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me in the list before Fight Club. Let that sink in. While Austin Powers was funny and made a boat load of money, I would say Fight Club was the better film. There were other movies he listed in '99 that could have been replaced as well. This guy's opinion means nothing.

He also states that "Se7en" is in his Top 25 best movies of all time.

While its a damn good flick… it certainly isn't in the top 25.

Good lord I was having a bit a fun. Its not like I based my entire movie watching career on this guys opinion. I thought the idea was nice due to March Madness and all....LOL

Eh, you said it was a pretty good piece, I'm just disagreeing on that premise because the sample size is one person and his taste in movies sucks in some respects. Easy, man, it was certainly an interesting read though, and the March Madness style is cool.
