Not sure if this necessarily belongs under this thread, but has anyone seen any video of Butch Jones apparently 'grabbing' Eric Striker after the UT collapse Saturday night. Since no video has surfaced, assuming it is nothing significant, but any coach that grabs another player can get in some deep shit.

yup. I wouldn't call it a violent grab or anything though. kid was screaming fu<k SEC to the fans. another OK kid was running around with both fingers up to the crowd saying the same I believe.

I had seen that, but some reports were saying Jones "grabbed" him, which would be inappropriate unless it was just a 'tug of the jersey' or something

I was at the game. I'm told by folks in the good seats that's all it was. Not a violent grab, shake, or anything like that.

If that is the case, then nothing to see here......

Figured that was likely, as no video seems to be up, and if it was at all serious it would be all over vine/youtube/etc

In their first 27 Games - Butch has the same record as Derek Dooley.

13-14

Jones

5-7 (2-6)

7-6 (3-5)

1-1 (0-0)

Dooley

6-7 (3-5)

5-7 (1-7)

2-0 (0-0)

And only a one game difference in SEC play.

That seat has to be heating up a little.....

actually, he's done a nice job of digging out of the hole that dooley dug for them....
improved every year, recruited well, compared to dooley who did the opposite.

Western Caroline coming next. Must be worried.

looking forward to an easy game. won't have to think about them while at the ND/GT game.
ps, the catamounts had about the same result against bama as we did.

Sorry I have bumps. Is there any chance Butch Jones doesn't survive this season if they drop a couple of the 50/50 games and lose to who they should?

I see at least three games that I would bet money they lose (FL, UGA & Bama) and three 50/50 games (KU, SC & Mizzou). That's assuming they wont trip up against teams like Arkansas or Vandy.

In my opinion, I would say their ceiling is 8-4 with a decent possibility that they do even worse than that.

This is a big game for Jones. The honeymoon is over here in Tennessee, if they can't beat Florida this year his support will drop significantly. I don't see him getting fired unless their season really tanks and I don't think that's going to happen.

He'll survive. His recruiting is going to make UT a Top 10 program long before HJ ever sees the field.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves here, it's not like the other SEC teams they play (FL, Bama, UGA, etc) haven't recruited well either. He is still going to need to beat those teams before we start talking about them as a Top 10 team. This is his third year and he has gone 5-7 & 7-6. If he goes less that 8-4 this year, he will absolutely be on the hot seat. Rightfully so, in fact.

Let's not forget the downward spiral of a coach on the hot seat either. His recruiting is the only reason he's safe... If he keeps losing games, it's going to be much harder for him to sell the program.

I think he has to show something this year, or it's going to get a bit bumpy.

I thought I had wandered into a Hunter Johnson thread, not a Butch Jones thread. Does anyone have a Garmin?

So we're not allowed to discuss the coach/program he is currently committed to and how the lack of success of that coach/program may affect the team he ultimately commits to?

Do people still use a Garmin?

You'll eventually get the joke.

My CX-7 didn't come with navigation built in, so I still use my Garmin.

That makes sense, was thinking about the after market navigation systems. Would assume most people use their smart phones now days.

Just taking an educated guess. On the strength of their recruiting and the class of '15 in particular, I say they are going to be a Top 10 program in '17, could even happen next year. You have to get ahead of yourself if you want to make those predictions. That's my opinion, you are free to challenge it.

I hear what you're saying, but that doesn't mean that Butch won't be on the hot seat if he they have a bad year. That's three mediocre seasons, one of which, has upperclassmen he recruited. The fact remains that regardless of how much talent he has, they still have to start beating the class of the SEC at some point. Which is something Butch has failed to do at this point.

Using your logic, Bama recruited better than them in '15, and they will have to face them on the road in '17. In fact, Bama has out-recruited them in every class they have had since Butch arrived. The rest of the SEC elite have recruited on par or better than UT as well. So it's not like UT has this huge recruiting advantage to their peers. They have one really good class.

This isn't a "get better and keep your job" gig, imo. It's a "represent the SEC in the Playoffs or get fired" type gig.

Meh... All he has to do is win the East occasionally. Ask Mark Richt.

And I'll throw this out there. I'll take UT's '15 class over Bama's '15 class on the strength of the Top 8 recruits alone. Bama's Top 8 have more recruiting stars but 6 of UT's are lineman. You win with lineman. McKenzie, Tuttle and Phillips are going to be epic. Barring an alien abduction, McKenzie will be All Pro by 2020. ...and their #8 is Darrin Kirkland, who'll be be one of the best LB's of the '15 class.

Once again, just my opinion. That's what message boards are for.

Agree on the bolded. No offense meant on my end, just debating.

The big difference with UT's class being loaded with linemen is that the rest of the class of the SEC have recruited awesome on their lines consistently. It wasn't just one class loaded with linemen. UT is playing catch up, big time. Even in that UT class, Bama still had four 4* offensive linemen in '15. which followed the five 4* or better offensive linemen they got in '14. They currently have four 4* offensive linemen for their '16 class as well. It's apples and oranges in regards to linemen depth between the two schools.

Some of you guys still think Tennessee will go 9-3 this year???

Through 29 games, Butch Jones’ victories have come against Austin Peay, Western Kentucky, South Alabama, South Carolina (twice), Kentucky (twice), Utah State, Arkansas State, Chattanooga, Vanderbilt, Bowling Green and Western Carolina.

This stat probably doesn't sit too well with the Volunteer faithful:
The Vols are now 1-21 against Florida, Georgia and Alabama since Philip Fulmer's last season in 2008. Jones' first 17 SEC games: 5-12. Derek Dooley's first 17 SEC games: 4-13. When you can compare a Vols coach to Dooley, you're officially in trouble.

They're going to be a sub-.500 team within the next three weeks. Problem is the last 5 games on their schedule are a joke so they'll probably salvage a decent overall record and will prolly get a cupcake bowl matchup. Thus, all sorts of artificial positive hype heading into NSD and next spring...

They haven't gotten over the hump of closing out games obviously but they're not playing bad football for the most part. A mix of young players and vet players that have been on bad teams is a tough fix.

This season, teams are 188-3 when leading by 13+ points in the fourth quarter. Tennessee has two of those losses.
