FO's Bill Connelly writes that the SEC was clearly the best conference in 2014, even after the bowl flops are factored in. More relevant to us, however, is that the ACC was the 2nd best conference according to F/+. Bodes well for our SoS, though it also means 2015 could be much more challenging than previously anticipated.

Clemson finished #1 in defensive F/+, and Georgia Tech finish #1 in offensive F/+. Fortunately for us, Clemson only returns 3 starters on defense next year, and GT has to replace 5 of its top 6 rushers.

Notre Dame Football 2015 Schedule

Next year we'll play six ACC teams instead of five since we could not fit a fifth in last year.
This year ND finished 35th in F/+ overall statistical rankings. Eight ACC teams finished better than that.

While there are difficulties in projecting conferenece teams strengths forward and in ND's unique schedule agreement in not playing a full conference schedule, here's how our 2015 opponents were ranked in 2014.

- GaTech #6
- Clemson #9
- Boston College #32
- Virginia #41
- Pittsburgh #42
- Wake Forest #87

Screw that noise. SEC 7-5 in bowls because they owned a bunch of second and third rate bowls. They wouldn't have 12 bowl eligible teams if they scheduled a respectable non-conference slate!

SoCar over Miami 24-21 (Duck Commander)
TAMU over WVU 45-37 (Autozone)
Ark over Texas 31-7 (Advocare V100 - wtf is that btw)
Tenn over Iowa 45-28 (Taxslayer)
Florida over ECU 28-20 (Birmingham, can't even get a sponsor, Bowl)
Mizzou over Minnesota 33-17 (Citrus Buff Wild Wings)
Georgia over Louisville 37-14 (Belk)

Boy, those are some name brand, top tier wins there. Best record of a losing team is 9-4 (Louisville) and SEC can claim four wins over six or seven loss teams. Hey pad those stats guys, we might need to bail out the best conference of all time when they can't beat anyone ranked in the top 20!

So four shots at a top 20 foe and the SEC can't win one? And we are supposed to claim they are the F+ champion conference? OK, I give them and F+ for their effort.

Fun stat from /r/cfb: the SEC is 1-11 against out of conference top 10 teams in the past two seasons. 0-5 in bowl games.

This is awesome. Any chance you can provide a link, so I can tweet it out to all four of my followers?

Ladies and gentlemen, how about a round of applause for Kevin Sumlin!

You just lost your job!RT“@mcfarlandrk8: Just cleaned Sumlin's pool. Recently, Sumlin clarified whether or not he actually fired the pool boy while providing some fatherly lessons for young people today:

That thing has kind of taken a life of its own. It’s a lesson for young people. If you have someone over at your house, there’s a degree of privacy that people who are working there need to respect. When you put it on Twitter, it jeopardizes that privacy. I didn’t fire him. The head of that pool company is a good friend and I told him that he didn’t have to get rid of him, he just can’t come back to my house anymore. I think it’s been blown out of proportion, but there are lessons that could be learned from that.

This is just a fantastic reference, and perfect within the geographical context.

Bonus points that it's one of my top 3 Adam Sandler movies.

I award you all of the reps.

"Committed 100%" - "I'll make my decision on Signing Day"

"Committed 100%" - "I'll make my decision on Signing Day"

Is UGA 5-star Terry Godwin ready to finalize decision with visits over?

“I’m committed to UGA, I’m still 100-percent with UGA,” Godwin told the AJC on Monday night...Right now, I’m still committed to UGA, so who knows?” Godwin said.
When asked to clarify what he means, the wide receiver from Callaway High School said, “Yes sir, I will make my final decision on signing day.”

This past weekend, Godwin took an official visit to Alabama, which is considered to be UGA’s strongest competition. Godwin brought along his parents and younger sister.

“It was good visit to Alabama,” Godwin said. “The best part of the visit was going to Coach Saban’s house, and sitting down and having fun as part of a regular home visit.
“There was so much nice stuff. I would say the nicest thing is that upstairs he had a balcony. When you walked out on it, it hung over the swimming pool he had. It was such a nice view.”

What would it take from another school to get Terry to flip from UGA? “It’s just if I have a special feeling about another place,” he said. “If it’s a great place for me and my family. I want to go to a great educational place.”

Has Terry seen that “great place” on his last two visits? “I’m not sure,” he said.

Which school would have a better chance at flipping Terry? Auburn or Alabama? “Everybody is still in it,” he said.

Godwin said he’s tentatively scheduled to have an in-home visit with UGA’s Mark Richt on Thursday and Auburn’s Gus Malzahn on Saturday. He’s still working on a date with Saban.

The good news for UGA is that Godwin is also planning on returning to campus this weekend for an unofficial visit. "It’s not set in stone. If I go, it will be after we meet with Coach Malzahn on Saturday afternoon. That’s my plan."

Finally, what would Godwin say to UGA fans worried about where he will sign? “I tell them, ‘Don’t be worried because I’m committed to UGA. I’m 100 percent with the Bulldogs.”

Godwin intends to sign at 6 p.m. next Wednesday.

It's no wonder kids today have a problem with committing. They don't understand the basic concept of commitment.

Remember Chason Virgil, the West Mesquite, TX QB whose scholarship to Mississippi State was pulled on November 20th? The recruit was an early enrollee. Mullen got criticized for pulling the rug out from under him as Virgil was preparing to enroll.

Chason ended up at Fresno State, enrolling in January. He also had offers from Oklahoma and Louisville.

As for Mississippi State, one recruit from Texas decommitted after Virgil's scholarship was pulled. Mississippi State signed three more players after Virgil's scholie was pulled - two four stars (OL,LB) and one two star (OL).
