Why, because of the "Done" tweet?

If Daniels wants action he can march into the office of the Dean of the College of Arts and Letters (his college) and DEMAND a Hearing. He can walk into the Povost's Office and do the same. "Clear me or prosecute me but stop persecuting me."

Of course that might have consequences he might not desire. Easier to curry favor with quips to the social networking crowd who have no role in resolving his situation than bringing it to a head.

Any student, athlete or not, has the same course of action open to them. I keep looking for an open letter to The Observer from one of the students demanding such action but they remain mute.

I'm going to go ahead and believe that if we don't hear anything this week, the investigation turned up very bad things that will be released at a later time. If they do finish the hearings, maybe some players are released for time already served...wishful thinking I guess. Still ridiculous this process has gone on this long....so it's a bit worrying that some real bad news could be forthcoming.

If they do finish the hearings, maybe some players are released for time already served...wishful thinking I guess. Still ridiculous this process has gone on this long....so it's a bit worrying that some real bad news could be forthcoming.

There is no time served consideration from the Honesty Committee.

If you committed an infraction you get a zero on the assignment or an F in the course depending on the magnitude of the offense. A more flagrant offense OR offenses can get you tossed for a semester or permanently.

It's an academic committee deciding on an academic issue with an academic outcome.

So how many games one has missed isn't part of that process or penalty.


Their decision may impact an individual eligibility as a consequence BUT that's for an entire semester not for some number of games. You are either academically eligible or you are not.

Not counting they're found not guilty, so no punishment, yes, a 'F' on only the assignment is minimum punishment.

If they are found guilty of cheating, receive failing grades for those papers in question, and are still academically eligible? I agree; they're not going to then get suspended by the football team, as a punishment.

But I don't think it will matter, because I doubt that they will be students in good standing, if those are the findings.

No, a minor infraction such as an assignment gets a a zero for that piece of work.

A major infraction gets an F in the Course.


Time served is NOT relevant to the decision making process of the Honesty Committee. They don't issue game suspensions. And you don't get partial semester eligibility.



ND's Department of Community Affairs, formerly Res Life issued Rees a game suspension for student misconduct. Kelly can issue a game or games suspension such as Holtz sending players home before a USC game for being late to meetings.

The NCAA can issue a game or games plural suspension for improper agent contact, improper benefits, etc but those such suspensions are not related to academic eligibility. If the NCAA gave student X a 4 game suspension for any reason and the school had already held that student out 3 games, Time Served could apply there.
