Thanks for passing along. Any idea which players we're talking about here? It seems like most of the rumors based on inside sources say two or three players will be cleared, but very few include the names. I would think if someone is inside enough to know numbers, that person has an idea as to names too.

Either numerous people are connected and getting info or people are piggybacking off that one guy who said 2 players are cleared a week ago.

I hope he has an exit interviews and tells the administration the straight up truth. Hopefully that has some impact on how the administration proceeds in the future.

Could it be that the four players have been caught red-handed, so to speak, but that the investigation into others is not complete yet? I mean, it's quite possible that the Administration does not want to tip their hand yet, when there are still others whose guilt has not yet been ascertained. So both sides of the equation might be true; the kids' fate might already be sealed, AND the investigation(which covers more than just the football players) might still be underway.

The university grilled her for information and she stood what she said in that she only helped them grammatically and spelling wise. The players wrote their own papers and just had them revised by this girl. Apparently, some of the emails in DDs account were misunderstood like " I need help with this paper" and taken as he was cheating. His father nor himself was not happy about it.

Its possible, with the one player that is in trouble, he did have her write the paper and thats what started all this. She was connected to the other players so the worse was assumed and boom, the sky falls.

I don't think this is the case. All things with Notre Dame take a long time. Its just how it goes. And now, to satisfy the NCAA they are going to be extra thorough so there isn't a need for them to investigate as well.
As for the vacating wins, I think that was a smart thing for the University to say. For NCAA to hear that they are willing to do so, makes it seem less likely that it would actually happen. Does that make sense? I really don't see that happening...but then again, what do I know?

Why is that? I would find it more odd that the university bypass the honor code process. Part of that process is seeing if the charges have any merit to move forward. Once it's brought to the forefront, they aren't supposed to simply back it out.

Interesting. Yes, that's consistent with some earlier rumors that I think were posted in this thread.

I believe the earlier rumor was that DVD and KVR would be cleared, Ishaq might be cleared, and Moore probably would not be cleared. But the clearances were supposed to happen a long time ago, and of course nothing actually happened. Plus, the rumor seems to correspond to most Irish fans' desires (DVD and KVR having proven themselves proven themselves most valuable of the bunch as starting-caliber players, Ishaq second most valuable as a regular contributor, and Moore least valuable as a special teams contributor only), so I was starting to wonder if it was just wishful thinking. I hope the fact that this rumor is persistent means that there is some truth behind it.

The error here is that you are assuming that this matter is factually simple. They may have had to review reams of emails and interview the principal characters face to face in order to determine that it was indeed a misunderstanding. The allegations were serious enough that that kind of investigation was warranted, and it might take some time.

I am thinking about it. Might seem crazy, but the above is exactly how I could see it playing out. The University admittingly weren't ready to suspend the players and announce names, but the fact that the entire interwebs were littered with the info, they took this knee jerk response. Plus, they certainly didn't want to let them play against Rice if they had this whole "vacating wins" idea already brewing.

Once it goes to the Honor Committee, which was obviously rushed because of the circumstances, the administration isn't going to simply pull out the request. So your timeline above sounds about right to me, if this were indeed the situation.
