If you're having kids, get married. If you're not having kids, it makes zero sense IMO.

And his:

But he's only a billionaire finance expert.

Wouldn't call him a "financial expert." Successful entrepreneur, definitely. Also, a generally strong VC investor (although many in the industry think he's a bit of a parody at this point.)

I wouldn't trust his economic advice over any Econ or Finance PhD at ND or any other top school.

Add to that great author. Everyone should read his book, whether you're 18 and trying to graduate college debt free, 35, bankrupt, and going through a divorce, or 50 with 2 million in your 401K.

It's not too difficult. Make money, don't spend it. Don't go into debt. Make more money.

Bam...all of a sudden, bank account isn't too bad.

As a parent I like what Notre Dame stands for. Also as a parent I wouldn't send my kid to Notre Dame knowing they don't really give a rats ass about the children enrolled in their school. Leaving these kids in limbo like this for over a month is complete bs.

Yes, everyone should take advice from a sociopathic billionaire. That's the best way to find personal fulfillment.

That's a pretty uncharitable assumption about the school you root for. Do you think your child would be better off at an institution that doesn't care about academic integrity, and actively covers up the misbehavior of its athletes?

I have no idea if he's a sociopathic person or not, but that's not evidenced in the book, and someone who reads the book isn't looking for personality advice anyways.

And he's happily married with children, FWIW.

My kids will attend Sally Struthers Correspondence School in hopes of receiving a diploma in "Tape Deck Repair."

I'm not referring to covering up misbehavior of athletes. I'm talking about a regular student whose parents pay $60,000 a year and is waiting to find out if their kid is expelled or not. I'd rather pay $25,000 and have my child be In the honor program at UCONN

A kid suspected of cheating and dishonesty... I hate this process as much as the next guy but to say you wouldn't send your kid to Notre Dame over this seems a lil over the top to me. Plus if your kid would be in the honor program at UCONN then I am sure he would be a fantastic student at Notre Dame and would never have to go through this flawed process.

It is nice to check in to this thread every once in a while and see we are right on topic. Maybe we should change the thread name to general information about everything

That'd be misleading. There's really nothing quality enough to call information in this thread. Except for every one of my posts.

You were soooo much cooler when you weren't a mod. The stress is getting to you, I can smell it.

Actually it's not being a mod. I'm just stressed out in general and it happened to coincidentally start around the time I became a mod.

Sorry for not partying.

My mother used to always say that "marriage requires at least one adult...it works better with two". She wasn't referring to age.

Yeah but if you're an average student like Golsen or Daniels does it make you think twice about your chances of being able to hang at ND academically.

All they have to do is get a tutor. Uh, nevermind.

If my kid's a regular student and they were suspected of cheating and academic dishonesty I'd sure want them to get full due process so that my $60,000 for this year - and potentially prior years - doesn't go down the drain in a hasty disciplinary decision. Meanwhile they're going to class like always.
I get why Philip Daniels, whose kid is (right now not) playing for an NFL paycheck next year, might not see it that way. But we have different perspectives, I guess.
Either way, saying you wouldn't send your regular smart kid to Notre Dame over this seems a bit over the top. Unless it's really about the relative cost compared to UConn, which is a different issue.

A slow disciplinary procedure works in the student's favor, you do realize that, right? It prevents a rush to judgement and knee-jerk punishment. It only happens to work against these students because they're missing football games.

I'll let Whiskeyjack guide you to the degree value rankings to illustrate how wrong you'd be to send your kid to UCONN over ND. You'd be costing him or her over $400K over 30 years.
