IrishLax, if you concede now on our bet about Yeargin leaving, I will give you the cackalacky discount and you'll only have to give me half of our original be which would be 25 million vbucks.

Thoughts? :)

No way. In fact I'll double down if you want.

100 million it is! And I'm not even going to buy you a vbeer after I take your money. I'm going to leave you on the street like a dime store hooker.

So this is just the thought that popped into my head:

--Elston to coach LBs (he did at CMU for Kelly)

--Bryant Young to coach D-Line (coached UF d-line in 2012, resigned this past April for family reasons. Not sure what his situation is, but if he's looking to get back into coaching I think he'd be a homerun.)

I like that idea.

if i had to bet on who got more ND guys to come with him to their new head coaching gigs my money would be on Martin getting more guys than Diaco.

anyone care to wager?

Yes, I'm serious. IDK what the per-requisites are for being a DL coach, but I'm sure he has them. Couple that with the fact that everyone knows who he is, not to mention great personality and a guy every recruit and family would trust, he'd be a dynamite recruiter.

His entire family tree has gone through ND. He'd never be a flight risk for another school and he'd give everything he could to the position IMO.

Mike Golic has one of the best sports gigs in the country. Big money, ESPN, been with Greeny for so long, very little travel, and is paid to chat about sports for 4 hours a day. Why in the hell would he leave that gig at ESPN to coach football anywhere?

Why? Because yolo, duh.

Like I said, it was wishful thinking. I was watching mike and mike on my way out and slamming coffee. It seemed like a great idea in the moment.

You don't know what the pre-requisites are but are sure he has them?

How about ever coaching before?? Jimmy Clausen is free, should he be our new OC?

It doesn't seem like such a crazy idea to me. I think he would do a great job. It's just the gig he has is probably top 5 in sports entertainment. Besides, this is all but wrapped up for Gruden to make a comeback.

The more I think about the more I like the idea of bringing in Vanderlinden.

We'd give Elston a co-DC title and maybe Cooks gets assistant HC title to go along with his co-DC title. Then Vanderlinden would coach the LBs. He would be like Elliot ... a grizzled veteran coach with a lot of experience (Vanderlinden was a HC at Maryland for a few years) who could give the young coordinators guidance in addition to giving great coaching to his position group.

ND should be able to pay quite a bit more to keep the assistants here in similar positions to what they would have at UCONN.

You could also look at it from the perspective of; if they follow Diaco to UCONN, they may be closer to becoming a Coordinator. Maybe they'll feel that Diaco will owe them, if they leave ND for UCONN? And maybe Diaco will make them promises, to have a chance at Coordinator sooner than they ever would at ND?

I'm not saying any of this is true, but it is one other way to look at it.

That is the "cack slacky" discount, for the record.

I wonder if Mike Golic would ever be interested? Nobody loved ND more than that guy. He's a personality that's for sure, and would be a dynamite recruiter IMO.

Maybe not DC right away, but talk to him about coaching DL + LB with the idea of grooming him for DC? IDK. I'd play for that guy in a heartbeat.

And maybe Terry Hanratty can be our QB coach ;)

Cooks, Denbrock, Elston. That's the only list you will need.

It's really a matter of what position coaches Kelly hires at this point.

Offense:

OC: Mike Denbrock

QB: ______
RB: Tony Alford
WR: Mike Denbrock
TE: Scott Booker
OL: Harry Heistand

Defense:

DC: ????

DL: Mike Elston
LB: _______
CB: Kerry Cooks
S: Bob Elliott

Does Denbrock become the QB coach? Don't OCs normally have that function?

Well, regardless Kelly has two open coaching spots, what position to you bring in then if not QB? Do you bring in a titular QB coach?

Does Denbrock become the titular QB coach just to give him more time to focus on being the OC?
