I stand by all my Book comments but will give him props for following his blocking on his TD play. He missed guys deep all day. You can’t tell me that Ohil couldn’t put up 21 points on an average defense. Granted jafar blew 7 for us but Book blew at least 14 if not 21. The entire team has some cleanup to do especially the coaches

It's not ratings it's coaching that is the problem. When have we had a QB come on campus and actually get better under BK and staffs coaching?

That would be a cool note for Book to finish on. Move on to either Jurkovec or Clarke just to see what they have if nothing else.

Happy for the win but unfortunately that last drive means it's Book until the end of the season. Will PJ stay if Book starts next year as well?

He's absolutely starting the rest of the way. Maybe he uses this as a boost and finishes strong. If he continues to struggle like he has I think you open up the QB competition in the offseason.

It's not going to help him settle in the pocket or making bad throws downfield for the rest of the season.

Idk how BK can take inventory after this game, seeing the completely inadequate play by Book (really in the last 10 or so quarters of play) and not make a change? Book hasn't been good all year, but it's really degraded these last couple of games. It's beyond time.

Some people think he played pretty good against usc but our running game was clicking and the best I have to offer about that game was he didn’t lose it for us.

Book has almost no weapons to work with --- zero good running backs (except maybe one who is redshirting), one good receiver, one sort-of good tight end. Nothing else with any consistency nor ability to separate either quickly or with length downfield.

Add to that, he lost his best two players --- they happen to play right tackle and right guard.

Book has a basket of lemons out of which he is supposed to make lemonade. Well, he just did, and did it almost entirely on his own back.

We should be giving him a medal not boos.

This offense has problems aside from Book. Prior to that final drive, Claypool was not good. Thankfully he and Book stepped up, because otherwise we lose that game today. Any other season Claypool is probably a #2 WR, but the drop off in consistency is pretty far past him. I think it was the 2nd to last drive Book was actually in the pocket for damn near 30 seconds and no one was getting open. Flutie even made a comment, and if he noticed it then it's bad. We have a lack of offensive weapons, players that will consistently beat their guys and get open. If you double cover Claypool, we're basically screwed.

Agree. Our weapons are mediocre and Book, like you said about Claypool, should be a #2. It’s why I can’t get too fired up about the play calling. Hard to make chicken salad out of chicken shit.

Sadly, next year doesn’t look like it will be much better.

In all seriousness here..

I hate Chip Long and his playcalling at times is pathetic..

but answer me this. Do you really not think Kelly would play Phil if he was even remotely close to being decent? Has he ever been afraid to pull/ play more than 1 quarterback? No. If Phil even shows a little bit of promise during the week, I just don't see how Kelly wouldn't give him some type of shot at some point. Dude must just not be good..

Move on from Ian? Nah fam, move on from Phil.

He’s kidding right? Italics equals sarcasm right? Book sucks end of story.

Book is a three star playing like a three star. We've got a ton of 4 stars playing below their stars....

Do you get mad when your Honda Civic doesn't drive like a Ferrari? Probably not. You do get pretty pissed when your Ferrari drives like a Honda Civic though? No?

Right now our 4 year old Honda Civic is beating out our 2 year old Ferrari.

I’m gonna take a break from capping on Book. As imperfect as he is, he plays hard. He’s won us some games (VT and USC) with poise in a couple of final drives. It’s easy to question his ability, but harder to question his work ethic. He threw some bad passes today, but it was nice to see him throw it more even with those mistakes. Anyway, the responsibility is ultimately on Kelly. He’s the coach. Book is in there because of him.

And lay off OMM. It’s his opinion. You have yours.

Team is clearly behind Book and it wouldn't be pretty if they took him out I think

Book is the best QB we have, for better or for worse. Recruiting stars mean nothing once you get to school. If PJ never beats out Book, he's hit Koyack level potential. That's it.

You have a .gif of Koyack's only TD in his 4 year career? That's impressive!

lol. it's on the interwebz. the only reason i know it's there is because my buddy in FL (also a ND fan) sent it to me last year when we lost 6-0 lol to the Jagsoff.

Exactly. Book is what he is. Complaining about him is about complaining about the weather.
He was never really *supposed* to be the starting QB at Notre Dame so much as a capable backup between Wimbush and Phil. But here we are. (We've been here before, of course, with Rees in 2011 and 2013.)
Book could certainly be better- and I hope Phil overtakes him eventually b/c Phil has a much higher ceiling - but the kid plays his ass off, I'll give him that.

Book us obviously not the answer, and the fact that Kelly is too stubborn to make the switch makes it pretty obvious that he's also not the answer. Why isn't our Top 100 QB ready to see the field yet, he's been at ND for a year and a half? Why can Eason start in his first year at Washington, or Fields his first year at OSU, or Jayden Daniel's his first year at ASU? I get that those guys are all highly rated, and some transferred, however it's still mostly their first year playing and definitely their first year in those systems. Phil was no slouch, he should be ready, there's zero excuse as to why BK is apparently a quarterback destroyer, for lack of better terminology.

If Phil was ready don’t you think he would be playing? Kelly has already stated as much.

Yeah just like dexter wasn’t ready huh... lol. If book got hurt it would be hilarious to see Kelly backtrack and say ohh Phil is ready. Kelly probably didn’t think that through when he threw Phil under the bus last week
