How's everyone's gone so far? We don't have ours until May 4.

Need a answer to this. Suit or Tux?

Rent the motel by the hour. Its cheaper, and you only need it for 3 minutes anyways as a high school kid......My prom was 15 years ago, and that's the extent of my wisdom pertaining to it.

Just don't be a douche and wear something like this:

There was a direct correlation between the guys in my class who wore those, and the guys who failed out of college.

Always consult the date. If she has a color dress you like, definitely match it in your own way.

If it's a color you don't like, you can never go wrong with black on black. Always in style.

If she's wearing a dark color and you're renting, feel free to match. Something light or tropical and you go black.

Trust me, you'll look so much more kickass than the kids who go suit.

Do you want, would you really consider advice from someone who went to his Senior Prom in 1970?

If so, camp it up. Go pastel blue and ruffles.

Im picturing DShans in a tux that had a ruffled shirt, cumberbund, and thick pinstriping on the side of the pants. Pretty much what Tommy wore in the movie "Carrie," and yes, this visual image is ruining my night.

I'm not sure about Tommy in "Carrie," I was more The Who's Pinball Wizard Tommy. Your description sounds about right, though. My date wore a pastel yellow dress with a whole lotta lacy stuff here and there. I might have a photo somewhere in my boxes of archived crap that I could scan and post, but I don't want to ruin your night any more than I already have.

Should I wax poetic about corsages?

Never went to any of mine. I was too scared to ask a girl out. But...had I gone I would have gone with the tux for sure.

girls love the bow-tie and the true highlight of prom is what happens after not during. ;)

Bow tie if you can. Black on black is classic, can't go wrong. Howver matching the vest and tie with your date is also a smart route if it is a darker color as someone mentioned. Have fun and dance like hell. Nothing worse than being THAT guy who sits in the corner and doesn't dance. I hated those guys. Even if you can't dance, like me, do it and have fun that's what is important.

All white. Gold vest. Gold bow tie.

That is what I wore for my senior prom. Junior year I went with a more traditional look.

(In 2006), I wore a black tuxedo with a tuxedo tie instead of a bow tie. A little more modern. I also wore a pocket square that matched my date's dress.

Also, look into buying the tux instead of renting it. Usually doesn't cost a whole lot more and you can have a tux to wear if you ever have another event that requires it.

Tux for sure. As far as bow tie or regular tie... that's up to you. I went with a regular tie that matched my date's pink dress. It looked pretty great and I got a lot of compliments. It's key that if you're going to go this route that the colors really do match up (bring your date's dress to the store or take a high quality picture). Having off colors will just look bad. If you don't go this route, you cannot go wrong with a black tie.
