Potential Transfers INTO ND

Finding a one-and-done player is a good way to maximize the roster’s 85 scholarships while also not making a long-term commitment. That allows a readymade player to come onto campus and have success, and a position like defensive end, safety, or even tight end could be an option. Kelly has also talked about being open to any transfer with three seasons of competition remaining.

Plus, how many 5th years are going to want to come in for a chance to sit behind Tarrean Folston and compete with Greg Bryant for snaps. Wright is the only one I can imagine wanting to do that since its basically coming home for him.

Savon Huggins. He currently is projected to go undrafted. With the NFL's lack of emphasis on RB's, that is likely to change regardless of where he goes. Coach Kelly has shown that he is more than willing to use multiple back and he would certainly play on special teams.

Best case scenario, he still goes undrafted and makes a team as an undrafted free agent and has a headstart on a graduate degree. Worst case, he doesn't make it to the NFL and he gets his masters from Notre Dame.

Win-Win if you ask me.

Does ND have an accelerated MBA program that is one year? Basically, how far did Riggs get with that year at ND?

They do, though I have no idea about Riggs. It's a huge time commitment, I'm surprised he had time for both that and football.

Per Irish247, we are looking at another transfer into the program. Out of respect for the player and family they won't go into too many details at this time but it is at a position of need. They will periodically be giving info as they are able to but not much more than that right now. Sources feel good that if he can academically qualify that ND would be the destination. Very similar to the Riggs transfer, he would graduate this spring and be available for summer camp.

Potential names:

- Reymound Wright
- Brennan Scarlett (Cal)
- Wayne Lyons
- Valdez Showers (FL)
- Savon Huggins
- Christian French
- Joel Hale
- Valdez Showers
- Rodney Coe
- Justice Hayes
- Aaron Green

Valdez Showers twice

This is pretty interesting. I like that players from other programs see what is happening at ND and want to be a part of it.

We are trading EG to South Carolina for WR Shaq Roland(He left the team before the bowl game)

Huggins doesn't make sense while Wright is a maybe.

Huggins has said publicly that he wants to chase his NFL dreams. He's rushed for less than a 1000 yards in his career at Rutgers and would be joining two talented players in ND's backfield. It wouldn't take long to find a program that runs the ball more than ND and has less talented RB's than Folston and Bryant. Now if he understands the writing on his NFL wall, getting his MBA from Mendoza to go along with an econ degree from Rutgers is a hell of a way to join adulthood and worth more financially than what 75% (spitball) of all NFL RB's will make over their career. So... wouldn't transferring to lets say Wake be a better option if he wants to work on his craft towards the NFL?

Wright is the man at Stanford... unless he's been told Barry Sanders Jr or Ed McCaffrey Jr are going to pass him up. If he is on a stat building mission, wouldn't he also go to a school that didn't have 2 road blocks in place like ND? Once again, there has to be a better fit for him. If he has no NFL aspirations, then being close to home might be the angle. Who knows how he feels about South Bend, he may have jumped at a ND offer had it came his way out of high school.

It does, and from what I've read, he's expected to leave ND with his MBA this spring. Riggs was an incredibly successful transfer, and we're fortunate he chose to associate himself with ND.

They do, though I have no idea about Riggs. It's a huge time commitment, I'm surprised he had time for both that and football.

This is a big reason why I think the list of potential transfer candidates should be fairly small if we're willing to do the detective work necessary to pull it together. Riggs, like Chris Stewart before him, is an outlier in that he chose to pursue a rigorous course of graduate studies while playing out his final year of eligibility. But it's no mean task even for those who take a less demanding route*. The pool of transfer-eligible players who could break into our 2015 two-deep and get past the Faculty Admissions Board has to be very small.

*I wonder what most of our 5Ys choose to study? Most players seem to choose less rigorous A&L majors as undergrads, like FTT, but last time I checked, ~40% of our roster was enrolled in the Mendoza College of Business. What's the 5Y equivalent of FTT?

ND has a 1 year MBA program. Collinsworth is in it but Riggs is not, he is in the Masters of Science in Management program.

This is a great thread to kill some time while we wait for signing day or someone to finally declare.

Brennan Scarlett

TP and a bunch of other ND writers all just recently "followed" Scarlett on twitter.

Good bet its him. Great pickup if true. Hope it works out. If he can provide some pass rushing for a year and allow Johny Williams another year to gain weight and develop, it would be huge.

Ha! I guessed that in my original post.

He would be a great get. That being said, his last two seasons ended in injury. Hopefully he could stay healthy here.

Would he even start next year? Most likely Jones and Rochell move inside allowing day and possibly Ishaq on the outside? DL/DE will be so deep next year.

Closest thing to a healthy season was 2012:

Started and played in 9 games: 40 tackles, 6 TFLs, 2 sacks, 2 FFs

Kid has a lot of potential if he can stay healthy. Is it possible to transfer for 5th year and come is as a non-schollie player? I don't want to talk the kid down, but, with his injury problems, I'd borderline prefer a guy like Farley or Carlisle if it comes to that for the 85th spot.

maybe BK working on flipping Brennans RB brother and current Stanford commit Cameron at same time here?

they could both rehab their torn ACL's together in the bend, it would be great, and kills two birds with one stone for us.

In October Kelly said that they continue to see Rochelle as outside player on 1st and 2nd downs and an inside pass rusher on 3rd down. He only played in the middle when Jones and/or Day went down. Now that probably changes depending on the offense we play but they really like him at SDE on early/rushing downs.
