I don't like Phil Collins very much so Tarzan just didn't do it for me.
You just need to be taking your Ritalin

And which is one of three animated films ever to be nominated for Best Picture? That's comparing a movie that came out recently to one from the early nineties. Box office numbers are much bigger across the board right now than they were then. Aladdin and Beauty came out a year apart.

The fact that Beauty and the Beast was nominated for Best Picture has as much to do with its own quality as that of other potential nominees. Both 1991 and 1992 were relatively weak years for Best Picture nominees but IMO 1992 was a bit stronger which made it harder for Aladdin to be nominated.
Beauty and the Beast is significantly more "adult-friendly" than Aladdin IMO which is another reason it was nominated.
I'm not arguing that Aladdin is better. But I do think they are on the same tier.
Beauty and the Beast is weak. Except for Gaston. No one's slick as Gaston
So did Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted. Box office is no indicator of quality. Just ask Michael Bay.
YOU THINK WHAT!?!?!?!?!
The winners (Silence of the Lambs and Unforgiven) are great movies but the other 4 nominees are very weak compared to other years.

I'm not arguing that Aladdin is better. Because everyone already knows it is.
I was going to peruse the "Political Correctness" thread, but evidently it redirects you to the "Movies You just Saw" thread.

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson = trump card
The movie is also absolutely fantastic and not offensive in the slightest. Maui is basically a Polynesian Hercules and that's exactly how he's portrayed.
I thought we had gotten past banning these books...
Political correctness SUCKS. Virginia schools ban ‘To Kill a MockingBird’ and ‘Huck Finn’ for racial slurs – twitchy.com
Books generally reflect the times they were written in and these in particular are about being against racism and the slurs used are to provide you with knowledge of how these people were treated and why racism is wrong.
Make The Jazz Singer required watching. But make it the one with Neil Diamond.
That's good, song always seemed a little rapey to me.
Although some critical analyses of the song have highlighted parts of the lyrics such as "What's in this drink?" and his unrelenting pressure to stay despite her repeated suggestions that she should to go home,[2] more in depth analysis has noted that cultural expectations of the time period were such that women were not socially permitted to spend the night with a boyfriend or fiance, and that the female speaker states that she wants to stay, while "what's in this drink" was a common idiom of the period used to rebuke social expectations by blaming one's actions on the influence of alcohol;[3] the song is therefore a collusion by two willing lovers to engage in a romantic liaison, using the pretext "it's cold outside" as a shield against the social stigma of the time period against women making their own decisions about their sexuality.

It's about seduction.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baby,_It's_Cold_Outside
Comes from Wikipedia, but yeah.
Agreed it sounds rapey, but that is in today's world, not the context of the time.

Yeah the new version is the equivalent of coming home from work and your wife is on the bed in lingerie and you're like "no, we should really go downstairs and watch the next episode of Stranger Things."Agreed. She doesn't want the stigma of cleeping over. He wants her too, and she does too. She'll use the excuse of the cold and being drunk as to why she should stay to her friends and family. "Better safe than sorry."
Read the lyrics of the new version. Makes me cringe.
