So I see that the new rumor is that the entire Seahawks plan to sit for the national anthem this weekend. Time for everyone to stop watching NFL.

Because sitting for the anthem has helped black Americans.....And people can save the "it starts the conversation", because the conversations started long ago.

Kap is brilliant. Dude was going to be out of a job and made himself relevant again.

If it was truly about the cause, he would've done this when he was going to the Super Bowl, at the top of his game, in front of the world.

If our defense didn't suck so bad I'd invite everyone to come on over to ND games...but I'm afraid what they'd see.

And oddly enough, the NFL wants no part of this and has actually instructed the stations NOT to show these protests during the broadcasts, believe it or not.

One of the local radio guys here in Houston was talking about it a few days ago. And Goodell has publically said he disagrees with Kap.

CNN reports that math is racist.

Lol...in other news..."truth" is racist.

The video in this link shows how after the government incentivized "Big Banks" to give out money to people they know could not pay it back eventually screwed over the people who took the loans.

Also, the median wealth of a black family is just over $6,000? Holy crap that does not even seem possible. This would mean they have no house, likely no car (and if they do it's a single junker), and not much in the bank...and are also likely a one parent family.

The only thing big data needs to stay out of is court rooms. The thing folks need to understand is that the court system is meant to exist to JUDGE YOU, or more precisely YOUR CONDUCT within the context of an event or series of events. Part of that judgment comes when agravating and mitigating circumstances are applied to render punishment.

I'm fine with standard sentencing guidlines...I'm fine with reviewing them, and changing them based upon information. I'm not fine with what was described in this article...point is to be judged BY your peers...not BASED UPON your peers. Sentencing is part of that judgement, and each of us are owed an individual judgement...not some fucked up composite.

If banks disproportionately don't lend out to blacks and Hispanics (who often cannot repay loans) then they will be called racist. So then they loan to them, and of course they disproportionately cannot repay the loans. So then the banks are evil for loaning to them.

Late to the party but Cass Sunstein is on the case of the UChicago letter:

https://www.bloomberg.com/view/articles/2016-09-07/a-fix-for-the-culture-wars

also links to this article, which basically calls out this thread:

https://www.bloomberg.com/view/articles/2015-12-30/political-incorrectness-is-scientifically-bogus

Among Republicans, it has become politically correct to be politically incorrect. Actually that’s the most politically correct thing that you can possibly be. As soon as you announce that you’re politically incorrect, you’re guaranteed smiles and laughter, and probably thunderous applause. Proudly proclaiming your bravery, you’re pandering to the crowd.

A math-filled new paper, by economists Chia-Hui Chen at Kyoto University and Junichiro Ishida at Osaka University, helps to explain what’s going on. With a careful analysis of incentive structures, they show that if self-interested people want to show that they are independent, their best strategy is to be politically incorrect, and to proclaim loudly that’s what they are being. The trick is that this strategy has nothing at all to do with genuine independence; it’s just a matter of salesmanship, a way to get more popular.

dot dot dot

But there is a sham here, and it’s ironic. The very Republicans who proclaim their rejection of political correctness have committed themselves to a host of policy judgments that are, in their circles, politically correct. Those judgments help define the prevailing orthodoxy. If you want to survive, you had better not question any of them.

Here are some examples: Gun control is a terrible idea. The Affordable Care Act is a disaster. The United States shouldn’t be doing a lot to combat climate change. Affirmative action is bad. The Barack Obama administration is a dismal failure. Ronald Reagan was great. The minimum wage should not be increased.

None of the leading Republican candidates dares to challenge even one of these statements in public. If Trump, Cruz, Rubio, or Carson supported an aggressive effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, or called for a boost in the minimum wage, you might not agree with him -- but you’d know that he really was willing to be independent and to say what he thinks.

Condemning political correctness? That’s telling people just what they want to hear. It’s the furthest thing from brave.

Right. Because conservatives dominate the academy, the media, big corporations, law firms, etc...people are not fired at these places for expressing liberal views. Express a conservative view, though, and there is trouble.

As for the GOP nomination, I guess it is okay to dispute some "orthodoxy"? After all, the most unorthodox candidate won.

Nor has conservative political correctness led to events like this.

No offense... but the second article you shared are comically ignorant. It's really, really sad if you actually support what they're saying. I'm going to grab the middle to illustrate the idiocy:
The trick is that this strategy has nothing at all to do with genuine independence; it’s just a matter of salesmanship, a way to get more popular.

But there is a sham here, and it’s ironic. The very Republicans who proclaim their rejection of political correctness have committed themselves to a host of policy judgments that are, in their circles, politically correct. The Barack Obama administration is a dismal failure. Ronald Reagan was great. The minimum wage should not be increased.

So to start, the idea that being anti-politically incorrect is a "Republican" construct is indefensibly wrong. Classic liberals hate political correctness as much as the next person. There are literally hundreds of articles on this, from liberal college professors lamenting how they have to self-censor for fear of getting written up to liberal leaders of companies talking about how frustrating it is being thought-policed by their "progressive" millennial employees. My wife is the bluest blue Democrat you will ever meet -- she has never and will never vote Republican --- and two days ago she shared an article with me about how in public school they're teaching young kids that words like "freshman" are "misogynistic microagressions"... and if you challenge that idea, you're labeled "sexist." She thinks that's ridiculous, as do I do. She also has the gall to think segregation at the California public university is outrageous, but if she were a student there and expressed that sentiment she'd be labeled "racist." Political correctness has nothing to do with Republican vs Democrat except that most of the people that support it are part of the idiot fringe of the blue party.

It also has NOTHING to do with popularity, it has everything to do with consequences for expressing an opinion that is not politically correct. When the girl at Houston simply expressed that she supported All Lives Matter in the wake of avowed BLM supporters murdering cops, she was threatened, sanctioned, and they tried to kick her out of the school government/school itself. All for having a (reasonable) opinion. When a Christian on ESPN respectfully expresses an opinion that isn't politically correct saying it's based in his faith, he's suspended for that opinion. Has that ever happened with a Muslim? No, because they're a protected class. Has it ever happened with a politically correct opinion? No, and that's the hypocrisy people get upset about.

None of the myopic tropes the author pulls out at the end are even relevant to the discussions people are having over political correctness. Those discussions are about culture, race, sex, religion, etc. You can have any opinion you want on Ronald Reagan or the ACA and you aren't getting fired or kicked out of school for having it. Trotting out the examples he did belies that he has no idea what he's even talking about.

This one is the killer...

Couple ways to look at it I guess...

Having a life partner to cohabitate with, who has some level of income usually helps get you to the point where you can begin to acquire wealth. But also, having a partner tends to drive financial goals...ie a budget, so money over survival levels has a purpose other than just playing. Finally, having had someone in your life (father, mother, uncle) with basic understanding of wealth, to have taught you to at least do the basics. These things are synergistic, and it seems, if one generation breaks, it is harder for the next...

It really starts with people being able to find a job...

The NCAA is certainly good at getting positive press coverage from lefty journalists, distracting from the fact that it is a cartel that enriches itself off of 18 year olds.

As the NC GOP pointed out, shall men's and women's sports be merged?

ACC to move football championship game due to HB2 law

The ACC decided to move all their championships - not just football - from the state of NC for 2016-17. The NCAA decided a few days ago to move all their championships out of NC and the NBA decided to move their 2017 All-Star game out of Charlotte.

The Statement of the ACC Presidents included:
“As members of the Atlantic Coast Conference, the ACC Council of Presidents reaffirmed our collective commitment to uphold the values of equality, diversity, inclusion and non-discrimination. Every one of our 15 universities is strongly committed to these values and therefore, we will continue to host ACC Championships at campus sites. We believe North Carolina House Bill 2 is inconsistent with these values, and as a result, we will relocate all neutral site championships for the 2016-17 academic year. All locations will be announced in the future from the conference office.”

Clemson President and chair of the ACC Council of Presidents James Clements issued the following statement:

“The ACC presidents engaged in a constructive, wide-ranging and vigorous discussion of this complex issue over the past two days. The decision to move the neutral site championships out of North Carolina while HB 2 remains the law was not an easy one but it is consistent with the shared values of inclusion and non-discrimination at all of our institutions.”

ACC Commissioner John Swofford released the following statement:

“The ACC Council of Presidents made it clear that the core values of this league are of the utmost importance, and the opposition to any form of discrimination is paramount. Today’s decision is one of principle, and while this decision is the right one, we recognize there will be individuals and communities that are supportive of our values as well as our championship sites that will be negatively affected. Hopefully, there will be opportunities beyond 2016-17 for North Carolina neutral sites to be awarded championships.”

Citing HB2, Paypal cancelled plans to build a facility in North Carolina, which meant 400 jobs. Bank of America, headquartered in Charlotte, feels HB2 needs to be repealed. Their CEO, Brian Moynihan, said:
“Look, we have been clear that this ought to be repealed. And the reason why is we have 200,000 teammates. And we have 50 million customers. And if you think of how we run the company, we run the company to be the greatest place for people to work. And our own employees are worried that a law like this will impact them. Even if it may not affect them personally, in a sense of who they are, what they do, it affects their teammates.”

“It's now in litigation, which will take a while, probably. But our view is that it ought to be pulled back. Because it represents something that's against the values of our company.”

Other MNCs including Apple, Microsoft, and Coca-Cola, have criticized the law, calling it discriminatory.

Most states do not include "sexual orientation" or "gender identity" in their nondiscrimination laws. So the legal situation in any state the NCAA or the ACC moves their championships to is likely to be the same no matter what.

In other words, it is several dishonest and corrupt organizations engaged in extraordinary virtue-signaling.

My question is... virtue signaling to whom? These sports entities are taking these phony stands in direct opposition to their viewership.

These sports entities and businesses are taking a politically incorrect stance? w.r.t their viewership? What's your source?

I wonder if the ACC's stance was influenced by ESPN. Was the ACC Championship game broadcast rights with ESPN tied to it being held in Charlotte? If so, the ACC would have to discuss the move out of NC with ESPN first. Same with other media rights with the other sports entities. If each entity has autonomous decision-making on these matters, are you implying that ESPN is concerned about the financial impact to them because these decisions are in opposition to the majority of their viewership?

ESPN's stance when HB2 passed was that they "embrace diversity and will evaluate all of our options." ESPN was in "preliminary discussion" with the Charlotte Motor Speedway for holding the X Games there in 2017 and 2018. The economic impact for Austin, who hosted it last year, was $102 million. The Speedway dropped out as a candidate in June for the event. ESPN will pursue other candidates and made no mention of HB2. You would think that with business losses that Charlotte would do all they could to accommodate any requests.

The "virtue-signaling" reminds me of the response to Indiana's Religious Freedom Restoration Act.

They just signed a big deal with ESPN, right? Don't need to look much further, imo.
That's what I mean, what the heck is ESPN doing? Does John Skipper think the SJW PC approach is good for business, or is he just injecting his own (or Bob Iger's) personal politics in the business to its detriment?

Most sportswriters are insufferably liberal, and I'm sure the higher-ups are liberal too. It's getting freakish and embarrassing though.

Again, nothing the Nationwide Cartel Abusing Athletes does is to be taken seriously until they start forbidden the segregation of the sexes into different sports teams.
