That I have not. Doing a little more research now and it sounds like they work temporarily. After awhile the snakes realize what it is. It's definitely worth a shot though.

How many are we talking here? I was always under the impression snakes dont usually nest, per say. They move around a lot, following food.

Well I've killed 6 already this year and the wife just seen another today.

The neighbors told us that the last owners (of our house) always had snakes around the house so we could be talking multiple generations. I don't think this is Snakes On A Plane but pretty sure there are a dozen or so at least.

And I'm thinking they are nesting under the porch since we've witnessed them go in and out and the one tonight retreated towards this area once the wife spooked it (actually, vise versa).

Had a bunch around my pool 5 years back. I think they were living under my shed and the neighbor's shed. I bought some ortho snake b gone from Home Depot, and didn't see any more the rest of the year. Cheap fix, worked good.

At my grandfathers farm, the neighbors cats always took care them.

Was checking this stuff out online. Thank you for sharing. It's good to know that it worked for someone! I'll give it a try!

Read up on it. Sounds like you have more than I did. My uncle told (after the fact) me that there was a lot better stuff out there than Ortho, but I'm sure knowing him, it was commercial/pro type stuff. Ortho was the only choice I had.

Anyone know how to deal with snakes?

I've lived in my house for two years and have only occasionally seen a snake. I live in a very rural area that has a draining ditch in my backyard, a large woods a quarter mile away and a corn field 20 feet away so we get all sorts of critters around. I even have deer run through every now and then and I live in town. Pretty neat. Anyways, this year the snake population has been pretty crazy and my wife found their home. Under our cement porch. They are "crawling" through the crack between our walkway and porch.

There is no way for me to get under the porch but I've used caulk to cover the opening and they are still managing to get through that. These are just harmless Garter snakes but I do not want snakes getting inside of my house. I've already killed a handful (don't go PETA on me, now) due to my wife's Ophidiophobia.

Any suggestions or past experiences? I really do not want to go the exterminator way just yet.

Get a bigger snake-eating snake to eat the smaller snakes. That way you only have one snake to deal with. Also, if you've already killed a bunch, just get an exterminator. Unless it's your wallet that's bothering you instead of your conscience.

It's my conservative mind. And my feeling that they will want to break through my concrete porch even though I know they wouldn't do that.

If you've caulked up the entrance and they're still getting in and out, there's probably another hole somewhere right? Get some snake repellent to drive them out of the hole, then seal the hole(s) up. You may want to consider getting a cat too (Loathsome as that sounds). Cats are natural predators for many snakes.

Consider glue traps. They're quite effective with snakes & lizards. If that doesn't work, buy a mongoose.

Sorry, I said that completely joking. I didn't google it beforehand, didn't know such a thing existed, ha ha.

It was an accidental suggestion but I hope it works out.

I blame myself for clicking. I'm thinking "No way do they show the foot...." and then they did

Dude......

How do you keep a dog that CHEWED YOUR TOE OFF, only to have him CHEW YOUR OTHER TOE OFF 2 years later?!?!?

Wow. That is terrible. To answer your question, no.

However, I haven't seen a single snake since the day after I posted the above.

I caught one on a rat sticky mat that I placed right outside of the hole. I then used cement caulk and caulked the area between the sidewalk and cement porch that my wife had seen them crawl out of.

Snake free...so I think.
