And what have you concluded?

That I have about 2 years to plan everything out and make a purchase. This requires the creation of a new savings fund to cover purchase expenses.

My son will be around 5 and my daughter around 3 so we can be conversant and play some games in the camper, etc.

We could do it sooner but I think it'll be too much hassle for us. I'll need to have a newer SUV by that time as well since my vehicle has 135k+ and the rig I'm looking at will likely pack out to 5k lbs. With that weight an SUV is a must for towing capacity.

I'm going to work on a series of travel plans for: weekend, 5 day, 7 day, etc.

And there are loads of tips to be found from people who make this a lifestyle. Lots of people document on best national parks, best hookups, best wifi, best food, best kit for camping, etc.

I have a lot to learn.

I would. Unfortunately, m'lady doesn't like sleeping on the ground.

Get one of those new-age tents that pops out from the roof of the car and remains elevated/supported by the car itself. Also keeps you safe from bear attacks.

And I support any Dodge Minivan. I'm not a minivan guy, but I drove one from Cincy to Fort Walton one time, and that thing was nice. It was spacious, looked a little more mean than the standard soccer mom van, and had some nice giddyup when I needed to make moves on the highway.

Hammock or gtfo.

You are one sad version of a man, Wiz...
Your wife must be one of those hardy outdoorsy gals, huh? Hairy pits and chewing tobacco? Big brown boots and tube socks?

I'm in the market currently for a big vehicle. Currently have a Suburban but it's time to put it down. I'm all for a minivan. My wife, unfortunately, is adamantly against them. Ford Flex may be the answer even tho it's not much different than a minivan.

This is what the Boy Scouts are using now. I am getting one for my boy next year They are surprisingly warm and easy to pack and carry.

However, I and my poors family are currently using a Coleman tent.

Who sets a camper up on a 15 degree incline?
Some asshole on Craigslist who's going to sell me his camper for $3,500.

The Ford Flex is ugly AF. I'm a huge fan of Ford from the Fiesta to the Super Duty but the Flex is inexcusable. They were shooting for an LR4 aesthetic but ended up with a Scion.

Also, FORD BRONCO COMING BACK IN THE 2020 LINEUP HYYYYYYPE!

This has been a great read through... though only the comic book thread can make me feel this disconnected... this is my 'out doors' and this is the closet I've ever come to camping... these urban jungles wild enough apparently...

I will be camping here in the near future. It is a 1 1/2 hour drive from me:

I'd be 100% all in for an Irish Envy camping trip at Potato Creek State Park.

As long as I have access to fresh water, my fat ass has enough caloric reserves to survive a few years at least.
