Thought I'd chime in with a new product idea for those of you who can't choose between tent and hammock...
Introducing Tentsile (www.tentsile.com )
HQ'd here in lovely Ogden UT
Friends used one camping at Havasu Falls in AZ las summer. Snap to set up (assuming there are trees) stayed dry, comfy.

As for the vehicle choice, gotta vote for the Caravan w /big motor option, and AWD. Tons of room, comfort and giddyup.

Lmao "portable"? That thing is enormous.

Okay so here's a bigger dilemma. With the second Mini Wiz on the way and me looking to do more camping to explore these here United States, I'm looking for a new vehicle. When I was a kid, my family did all of our camping in a pop-up tent trailer, so that's what I'm looking for. Most of them appear to be about 1,500 lbs dry. Most of the minivans on the market have a tow capacity of ~3,600 lbs and they're priced 20-25% less than the SUVs with similar specs. I want three rows of seats and don't have the budget for a Suburban/Tahoe/Yukon. A certified Grand Garavan with all the options and about 15K miles is like $19,000. Thoughts?

Quit buying all those expensive shoes.

I agree that Ford is ugly. It's basically a station wagon. When i was a tyke, we did a lot of camping vacations with a station wagon and a pop up camper.

I mean I COULD afford it if I wanted to finance, but I'm vehemently anti-debt and won't get anything I can't pay cash for.

I actually like the look of true station wagons. The Volvo V90 is sexy as hell.

First time I've ever heard anyone describe a station wagon as sexy.

Ours was light blue. Rear window opened, with a rear seat that faced backwards.

I'm actually a wagon fan. I like most of the non American wagon. I looked at a Mercedes wagon a few months ago that actually had the rear facing 3 row. I'm pretty sure on of the Tesla models has rear facing back seats.

Crushed that minivan negotiation. Their asking price was actually very fair but I managed to get them down another $1,000 plus they're throwing in about $700 worth of parts and installation for the hitch receiver and tow wiring.

I don't have a problem with wagons. We bought a black Taurus wagon in 86 or 87 when they first came out. It's style is very close to the Volvo Wiz posted. Sweet ride and lasted close to 200K miles. It's just that particular Ford is devoid of any style.

My first memories of going to ND games is my grandpa loading me and my cousin in the back rear facing seat of his station wagon, popping in a cassette tape of the ND band, and heading for South Bend.

I'd buy one just for trips to games if I found one.

Not to mention, as a single child who had no help with chores. The back area was the most convenient for loading/unloading groceries in any vehicle ive ever seen.

Cack-I'm stoked for you!!!! Congrats! Hard tags to draw I'm sure. Time to start scouting. I take it this is gun?

Jealous. Although to be really jealous I'd have to put in for the draw-right?

Headed to South Cackalacky in about 30 minutes for Gobbler hunting and also a Wounded Warrior/Hunts of Honor hunt. I guided last year and connected for a WW-hopefully the success continues

Speaking of gobblers... has Wiz shot a turkey yet or is he still a pussy?

Does anyone here have experience with Lyme?

Last weekend I was camping in PA and found a tick embedded on my right arm. I did not save the tick, but I think it was an adult deer tick. I suspect that it was there for a very short time (<5 hours) for a few reasons: 1) I found it around 8AM and did a thorough tick check the previous night before bed; 2) it was not engorged; and 3) the reason I found it was because I felt a slight pain/bite on my arm and rolled up my sleeves to check it out.

The same day, I called a Teledoc service associated with my work and obtained a 10-day 100MG, 2x-day doxy course which I began on Monday. Thus far, I have not noticed anything abnormal from either the bite or doxy. This is luckily my first tick and I really want to nip this in the bud.

I need to be more proactive in treating my gear with Permethrin from now on.
