Well, this answers my question.
Pure speculation.

Classy of us to judge whether or not a kid is able to get into Notre Dame without these exceptions.

And we are basing intelligence off of?...
Twitter posts? Media interviewing skills?

Are these the metrics that are being used to judge kids? Because I know of no other resources that an average fan would have access to, that would be useful in judging academic competence.

Please, let's not speculate. It is not fair to anyone.

You make it sounds like kids like this are A) a dime a dozen and B) ND is consciously passing them up. The reality is we are going after the JS and JT types. We're just not landing them all.

I'm aware that these kids are unique, but that is what makes the school so special. It is the people that go there that make it so. Even still, I think that all the kids at ND are special, just some are a little more talented than others. It has just been awhile since I have seen the unique blend of great kids that are championship level on the field. I truly believe that this year's group fits that criteria!

Speculating exceptions should stop.

Kids read this shit.
Yep.
I'm still curious as to how people are even forming their speculations...

Do they look at the end products, and then deem them as troubled?

Because davaris had academic issues and never finished, that must mean he got into ND with an academic exception?
That's the only thing that makes "sense", and by "sense" I mean you're taking a picture and cutting into jigsaw pieces, then just putting back together, as if you "solved" the puzzle.

This type of speculation is nothing more than a self-fulfilling prophecy for Internet detectives to feel smart about themselves, all at the expense of the student athletes' accomplishments.

The talk here is there are 2 or 3 "exceptions" currently on the team. What is the definition of an exception?

Answer me this, how many of the 85 scholarship players would be admitted into ND if they were entering on academics only?

I had offers from Princeton, Harvard, Cornell, Penn, Rice, Tulane and all 3 Academies. With a 1300 SAT, I get into none of them as a general student.

This talk of exceptions is silly because there is no definition on what an exception is. It sounds like you guys think ND should be able to take a few kids that are just barely NCAA eligible which is what now a days? 700 SAT and a 2.0 GPA?. Those are exceptions even in the SEC.

Starting with TP's post and ending with Crusaders, both are great posts and bring up a couple of points. (Not to ignore Johnny and VPD's warnings.)

Q) How does the average person form these speculations?
A) The average poster doesn't even realize he is rearranging his old prejudices, and labeling it original thinking. The reward is not to put someone down, it is to impress oneself with ones own "intelligence."

Q) More?
A) In this case one thinks of oneself as slyly, intelligent, but one actually comes off to (some others) as superficial, simplistic, and bigoted. And one offends the target of one's speculation . . .

What an... intelligent post. It's a good thing you showed up to show them how dumb they're being

There's an inherent irony in his post. I was commenting on it. It has nothing to do with the actual subject at hand. While we're being meta, why do you do that period thing?

.
Ensures good spacing.

Ok. What's your position? I didn't add the double space / period on the last post and the body and sig are smashed together. Unlike this post.

.

Can you just hit enter twice?

Apparently not. Well I don't really think it looks "smashed together" and the period makes my OCD want to punch something. But that's just me. It's also quite annoying for me because I often find myself deleting it when I quote you.

I don't even understand half of Bog's posts. There are a million different ways to take his chara's.

.

A million may be right, but it is probably a little long. I am not sure the readership here reaches a million.

My goal is for everybody to see something different, so that my posts mean something different to everyone. It isn't my goal on this site to enroll, indoctrinate, or coerce. Rather to stimulate. So, I can think of no better way than to try to reach everyone as an individual, respecting their differences.

Some people see arrogance, so be it; others humility.
Some people see intellegence, some stupidity and foolishness.
But the best two complements are "I don't understand;" or "They mean something different to everyone. (There are a million ways to take them!" Go raibh maith agat!

"The Fool On The Hill"

Day after day, alone on the hill
The man with the foolish grin is keeping perfectly still
But nobody wants to know him
They can see that he's just a fool
And he never gives an answer

But the fool on the hill
Sees the sun going down
And the eyes in his head
See the world spinning around

Well on the way, head in a cloud
The man of a thousand voices talking perfectly loud
But nobody ever hears him
Or the sound he appears to make
And he never seems to notice

But the fool on the hill
Sees the sun going down
And the eyes in his head
See the world spinning around

And nobody seems to like him
They can tell what he wants to do
And he never shows his feelings

But the fool on the hill
Sees the sun going down
And the eyes in his head
See the world spinning around

He never listens to them
He knows that they're the fools
They don't like him

The fool on the hill
Sees the sun going down
And the eyes in his head
See the world spinning around
