Whoa, whoa, whoa pump the brakes a little bit. I'm encouraged but let's not get crazy. Remember how we struggled moving the ball in the 2 games before this. We are certainly on the right track, but until we look good against a good D, not sold on our O. Our defense is crazy good, with the exception of a few breakdowns letting Wr's get behind us. I'd rather have a couple warts and be 5-0 than the alternative.

I remember all that stuff and every time this team has risen to the occasion. From what I have seen Oklahoma's D is suspect as is Stanford's O. As for Stanford's D, Arizona hung a ton of points on them and our offense in terms of talent and scheme is kind of similar. We should beat both those teams.

This has to be posted here...originally posted by Cogs in another thread.

Note: There is no doubt that Miami fans are the stupidest in the country.

Just got back from Chicago. Third game in a row for me and I don't know how much more my body can handle. I didn't actually pay much attention during the game but the Soldier Field experience was amazing. I probably spent more time getting into it with Miami fans than actually watching the game but oh well. That's what 41-3 does to you.

Very glad we are 5-0. Stanford worries me less and less. FSU losing made my day due to the unexpected nature of the loss. I'm hooked up to a Koolaid IV right now. GO IRISH

Kind of hard to find many negatives in that win but everytime koyack is on the field he seems to be screwing up. I think niklas has played great and clearly distanced himself as the 2 TE. Next year I hope heuerman is ready to play or we stick with welch and niklas

That's because you aren't noticing every play in which he does his job.

Koyack will be much further along than Heuerman or Welch for 2013.

I had been drinking a lot but I don't think he was on the field much in the second half ( koyack that is). Like I said above I dont want to be too negative here but I think Kelly is losing some trust in him to be out there. Not sure what the solution is either he just doesn't seem to put himself in the right position when he engaging blocks or defenders

Well since Koyack is clearly the third TE, he isn't going to be in there a ton. Niklas is the dominant blocker, and Eifert the dominant receiver.

Koyack was in on the second drive of the third quarter, when they were in the red zone. He was on the weak side, and they ran away from him.

He is only a sophomore. If he were an OL he'd just be starting to "come of age." He has two years left to be developed, and we all know he has potential.

What I think that some are missing is that Koyack is much more like Eifert than he is like Niklas or Welch. With Eifert catching NFL passes next tear, who do we think will be the [generally] "outside" TE?

Coach needs to set up with three TEs a lot this season, and Ben is still a little bit of a round peg in a square hole [imagery deliberately altered]. I have no problem at all in Coach giving him the reps that he can this season in partial preparation for next.

Koyack will be ready mentally and physically by then, and be "Eifert minor". He'll be OK.

This weeks installment of Good, Bad and Ugly. Heavily weighted towards the Good.

The Good
George Atkinson. There’s nothing you can really say about Atkinson’s 55-yard touchdown burst other than WOW. That’s elite speed burning past a Miami secondary that you’d expect to have pretty good speed themselves.

It’s taken some time to figure out how to use Atkinson properly, but getting him to the edge of the defense is a good start. As Everett Golson gets more comfortable running the football and keeping the backside of opposing defenses honest, it can only help the Irish speedster as the season progresses. Next evolutionary step? Get him the ball on some wheel routes against a linebacker in coverage.

Boy do I have some serious crow to eat. Ok, I am officially a believer! Not saying we are going to win out but I did not expect us to be 5-0 at this point. I'm shocked!

I went to the game(took the South Shore into Chicago) and it was one of the best game environments I've ever been to. I was surrounded by Miami fans in the grandstand in my section and I have to say, they have some of the most classless fans I have ever met. There was one guy(obviously wasted) saying that all Catholics are Rapists, when Cierre Wood got hurt, they were saying I hope he is dead, get the body bag, get him off the field. Where is Manti Te'o's girlfriend is she at the game? You name it, they said it. This was all first quarter and first half though. By the time it was 27-3, all the Miami fans were gone.

On a side note, the halftime show was the best I have ever seen from ND.

I may have been sitting by you, if this same guy disappeared during the 2nd half and was telling everyone that Cierre Wood should go play hockey if he was hurt so easily. I have been to quite a few ND games, and no fans come close to how bad the Miami fans were (both in number and stupidity).

There was one Miami fan at my hotel that I talked to the morning after the game, super nice guy. So they aren't all bad.

Let's be honest we are very very good but no one we have beat are in top 25 anymore. Stanford next week and Oklahoma and trojans on road still left on schedule.

We can't help what they do after we beat them. Can I just say that after we beat them they became so demoralized they lost faith in theiir whole season? That is how I look at it. Think about it. Playing a team defense that is so dominant you could not use your play book against them.

That has just got to suck..... I mean we all know what that is like thinking you have a schematic advantage only to be dismantled... cough cough 2005-2010 cough cough.....

You're lucky dshans is sleeping. "no one we have beaten is ... "

Actually Michigan is back in the AP Top 25 at #25 (28th in Coaches). They play ILL +23 this week and will rise further. Michigan's played the 10th toughest schedule per Sagarin. Their losses are to #1 Bama and #7 ND.

MSU is 30th in both AP and Coaches. MSU has played the 30th toughest schedule. Only UF, ND, Stanford, and Southern Cal have played tougher schedules to date of Sagarin's Top 25 teams. MSU plays Iowa +10 this week.

One of the reasons why Notre Dame seems to play strong teams early in the season and then they fall out of the top rankings is WE BEAT THEM. The second thing is that, often, WE BEAT THEM UP. Some of these guys are feeling it several games afterwards.

We've taken some real physical blows too, but, thank the Lord, Kelly is such a good recruiter and player developer that we are Next-Man-In deeper than most everyone.
