You: And Michigan has shown repeatedly that they throttle teams that can't win their 1v1 matchups,

Me: I'm just learning to read, but your statement was clear.

Yeah so what I said was exactly that...
And Michigan has shown repeatedly that they throttle teams that can't win their 1v1 matchups, and that they get smoked by teams that can.
...which is 100% true. Their defense beats the hell out of bad teams, and gets torched by teams that aren't out-athleted (Ohio State, Florida, Wisconsin, PSU with Saquon Barkley, etc.).

So not sure what the confusion is, because it's all right there in what I said.

-4 was ridiculous to begin with. Not surprised to see this movement, and we're only halfway through the week.

Wouldn't be surprised to see ND -1 by kickoff.

Already at ND-1.

Apparently the movement started around 10:30 am today. I didn't look at the individual Vegas lines when I posted just the VI Consensus. Since 10:30 am through early evening it looks like most have moved to ND-1.

I bet Vegas hates this game.

They had to get money on the other side so they won’t take a bath.

I think ND has very good talent and Brian Kelly has become an elite coach. But I have a bad feeling about a night game in Ann Arbor against a team that has talent, has been hearing how bad they are and has nothing to lose.

And Ian Book.

As of now it’s looking like it’s going to be rain all night Saturday. Obviously that can change, but not looking likely. Hate rainy games. Never enjoyed it as a player and I don’t really enjoy watching the game played in rain.

If I’m a player for Notre Dame, I’m looking at this game as if I have nothing to lose either. If anything, I’m upset that people still think my team sucks compared to the big boys and isn’t elite. I’ve busted my ass through camps and competition to prove myself, and even my own fans are writing me down as a NY6 team AT BEST with no shot at the playoffs, and even worse unworthy of a shot at the title and destined to get blown out if given one. I’m also PISSED AF that people are predicting Michigan, a school I hate and has lost two games to overhyped programs, to beat my team. I’m also pissed that their quarterback has one good half and now he’s a 5 star again, while my own quarterback is treated as inferior because his 3 star ability forces him to commandingly run into the endzone to seal victories.

I’m not a player, but if I was one, I’m ready to step up and wreck some shit on Saturday come rain or come snow.

If my calculations are correct, beating Michigan on Saturday will drop their all time winning percentage from .730 down to .729, while ours will get closer to hitting .728 again. The problem: Alabama and Ohio State have both leaped us after our wins from 2012-2013 were revoked and they would be tied at .729, so it's unlikely we retake the Winningest Program title while those two are still dominating. We can at least help make sure Michigan doesn't have it.

We need 4 more straight wins, counting Saturday night, to get back to .728, so get through Michigan, VT, Duke, and then Navy.

Was listening to Clay Travis this morning. One of the guests mentioned how the media overreacts all the time without taking a deeper dive. Like Sam Darnold or Daniel Jones. At the beginning of the season everyone was gushing about them and their most recent performances tell a different story.

IMO, too many are worried because scUM had a decent second half. It's an indicator of what their offense is capable of but they need to play like that for 3-4 games in a row to know if they are able to sustain it. We also see teams make second half runs like that all the time, but it's not there the next week. Add in that teams like PSU start playing prevent more and try to milk the clock on offense it gives a false impression of what happened in the game.

I would love to see our boys get an INT on scUM's first pass to see how they react.

Particularly if ND would turn it into points!

Has anyone taken into account WHO scUM was playing? Not exactly a powerhouse team either. People act like PSU is a worldbeater when they have beaten exactly no one with a pulse

Gotta agree with this.. their quality wins are Iowa/Michigan.. otherwise it’s not impressive.

My issue with these games is how tight they always come out & take almost the entire first half to loosen up. And by “these games” I mean the over hyped matchups..

We’re better than this team. It’s clearly proven in our play and opponents. I remember the mantra going into Oklahoma in 2012 was “quiet confidence, that’s how we should be rolling into Michigan.. cocky & focused.

Stop reminding kids how big a moment it is.. they’re kids. I think with the media over hyping the match up, the internet & likely the coaches, it’s adds unnecessary pressure.

F*ck the Big House - this team has a lackluster offense and an untested D. They play uninspired football and it shows. We’re better in the trenches and better at the QB position, there’s no reason we shouldn’t win this by double digits.

I just hope the coaches aren’t in there playing into this “huge game” mentality.. it’s not. It’s fu*king Shea Patterson who can’t throw the ball and a defense that will break.

Poop - was hoping I wouldn't need to pack my ND ponchos. Wish I had green ones instead of navy blue.

Shea Butters sucks - Book is way better than him and I am not much of a Book lover. I just hope this is the day CBK finally develops a love for crushing the souls of opponents instead of securing the victory ASAFP.

Pffft, what a wimp! Old football coach used to make us do tackling drills if it ever started raining real good. We'd get to hittin' and he'd yell out into the rain "The football gods are smiling!"

I've said it before, but one of my favorite games all time was against Michigan in 2008. It was raining cats and dogs, waterfalls cascading down the steps of the stadium, and Michigan couldn't hold onto the ball. It was hilarious. I didn't have a poncho and didn't care, I'd do that game every time.

Barring silly stuff with the weather, a great team wins Saturday night and wins it comfortably. I don't know if we're great but I'm very interested to finally have a referendum game on this team.

Yeah well not everyones a weird psycho like you and your old coach lol. Playing corner and wideout made it lame as hell. I prefer a clean and crisp game with full athleticism on display. Rainy days are gross. The only thing I enjoy about the Lions is they play in a dome. Could be a blizzard outside and it’s perfect 70 and dry inside. Don’t tell that to Patricia though. He thought practicing outside in the rain when their next game was at home and inside was gonna help them haha. To each their own I guess, but that’s just my preference. Not trying to get pneumonia like ole Gipp.

OR ... what did PSU do differently on D in 2nd half?

USC looked good against us in 2nd half too, because we went turtle, right?

BK doesn't hype the big games. He tells the team "do your job, do it well and embrace the moment".

Not sure how Iowa factors into a quality win for anyone. Same team that could only score 3 pts against Mich's defense. Color me unimpressed

I've seen Iowa twice and their offense lacks.

We are built to run the ball if we need to. If it is raining, our lads will have the advantage.

F@ck Michigan!

WELL ACTUALLY

ND didn't go "turtle" in the second half. BK made some aggressive decisions against USC to try and stretch the lead out... and it played right into USC's hands.

It's interesting, because BK usually DOES go turtle, and is willing to ride out ugly wins against 'good' opponents.

But he really wanted to stomp on USC's throat... it just didn't work out (because Chip Long loves to run all-curls on 3rd-and-medium, and Ian Book loves to throw it short of the sticks).

Looks like up to an inch of rain will fall during the game. This heavily benefits Michigan, IMO, because it makes it harder for ND to hit explosive plays.

Getting close to locking in a big fatty on Michigan +1 if the line stays where it is.

Counterpoint:

This benefits ND because Tony Jones Jr. and Jahmir Smith can wear down an undersized scUM defensive front over the course of the game, whereas ND has better depth on their own DL and will have a better chance at outlasting scUM in a run-heavy game.

ALSO, Shea Patterson already turns the ball over too much... put him in 3rd down situations, in the rain, with Kareem and Okwara getting after it? I like this.

I just think ND's main advantage is coaching, and Harbaugh secretly loves to play these kinds of "no one can score" games. The coaching advantage against Don Brown's hilariously aggressive and vanilla defense goes out the window if we can't throw the ball down the field.

I think he's got 6 fumbles on the year and the team has a ton. A slippery football wouldn't seem to help that. I know Jamie at ISD already thought fumbles could factor into the game.

If the rain is THAT bad, Michigan will also be forced to run it more than they'd like. You really see their POS line pushing ours around?
