I'll never understand what BK does to his teams to get them to come out with zero fire or heart in every single big game (even if we turn it around we generally come out flat in the big moments). You think the team would be jacked, we have way more to play for. You would think USC was on the brink of the playoffs.

I am not the world’s foremost Xs and Os expert, but as a dude watching on my couch it certainly looks a lot easier to operate offensively when the defense starts the play with a lot of guys standing 10 yards off the LOS (which ND is doing against USC) than when the defense starts the play with all 11 guys within 5 yards of the LOS (which USC is doing against ND). I know there are reasons to give up the underneath stuff, but it just feels like we have no room to operate and everything is contested, whereas USC guys are running free into areas of the field that they want to get to and our plan is to just try to tackle them after they catch it. On defense, I’d like to see us push the coverage up and try to make their freshman QB beat us down the field, and on offense I’d like to see us try to hit a few things over the top to soften them up a little.
