How do you guys think we will do against a hurry up.
Got to say BYU looks good on offense. looks like they are going to use a bunch of option plays. That plus they have a great RB,WR means it could be a problem if they get rolling.

I think our D-line is tops, but the spread style option with a fast QB has me a little worried.

This will be exciting to see Jaylon run these players down.

Got to say BYU looks good on offense.

Based on what? Their offense was pretty average last year.

That plus they have a great RB,WR means it could be a problem if they get rolling.

Williams and Hoffman are respectable, but our defense should be even better than last year. Unless Taysom Hill just explodes in BYU's new offensive system, I don't expect them to have the horses on offense to really threaten us.

I read a post tonight in one of the threads (but can't find it now) that our defense will be better as we have faced the last DT QB on our schedule tonight. Well you might want to check out the BYU v Texas boxscore (then again, you might not).

BYU won 40 to 21 despite Texas being +2 on Turnovers.

TX had 445 yds of Total Offense on 83 plays against one of the better defenses in the country.

But BYU had 679 yds of Total O on 99 plays!

"QB U" ran the ball 72 times for 550 yds.

The "QB U" QB, Taysom Hill RAN the ball 17 times for 259 yds, a little over 15.2 yds per carry. Hill scored on runs of 60, 20, and 28 yds.

BYU's Jamaal Williams added 182 yds on 30 carries, a little over 6 yds per carry.

BYU's Paul Laiske only had 87 yds but then he only had 15 carries, a tad under 6 yds per carry.

Last week BYU lost to UVA 19-16. During the week they made some adjustments to their OLine and fine tuned their OPTION READ attack to set a new BYU team rushing record, as well as, setting the ALL-Time Opponent Rushing Record against TX.

Hill was also 9 of 26 passing for 129 yds and 1 TD.

99 plays. Nix and Tuitt are going to need oxygen. Lots of it.

Wow this game could be bad for us.

why? we lost to Michigan tonight, so we're going to automatically lose to BYU late in the season at home? get real. did you even watch part of the BYU/Texas game? Texas is like one of Ty Willingham teams back in the day. They absolutely stinks. I think it's a bit premature to be bringing up the BYU game set to take place in several months.

I did watch a little bit of the game Texas new the run was coming and couldn't stop it. And let's not fool ourselves most of Texas defensive players would come here and start.

I actually think you're wrong on that but whatever. One of UT's best DL left 4 weeks before the season, that speak volumes about wtf is happening in Austin. They are NOT the Texas of old. Let's fret about BYU when the time comes and continue to watch their progress each week. Granted, they are well coached and always have been and we pulled a rabbit out last year, but we will be a much better defense and team by the time we play them.

As the game is only two months away and "several" is defined as a number being more than two or three but not many, it isn't premature at all. Moreover considering ND looked helpless against Option Read plays so far this season, it damn right prudent.

UT was bumfuzzled by BYU's rushing attack but comparing them to Willingham teams? Ty's boys were a stalwart defense back in '02 when they ripped off 8 wins in a row with no defense. I don't recall any of his team's, no matter how poorly he recruited giving up 550 Yds rushing.

Now if discussion of BYU in a casual manner while the boys have the day off is detrimental to team focus and jeopardizes victory over PU perhaps you should P.M. The Phamster to close down ALL the Gameday Threads except for the Game of the week.

BTW, ff1014 didn't say anything about automatically losing, he simply noted "wow, the game could be bad for us". You escalated the conversation not him.

Not just because we lost to Michigan. We are horrible at this point defending a mobile QB. Temple was a struggle for us and shoulda put up quite a few more points. They just couldn't convert their opportunities. Texas had their name thrown around by many analyst the last week of two as a potential top 5-10 team this season. Not saying they are that good, or that BYU is either. But this W was just as much BYU as it was bad D by Texas.

OMG really? You're going to take that angle? We're talking about a game on November 23rd. Nothing was "escalated" BGIF. I see nothing wrong with our back and forth. You act like i'm some drunk poster from last night taking shots at people. PM me if you have more to add.

This is the same BYU team that lost to Virginia, correct? Just making sure.

If you are basing anything on how BYU played against Texas, then you have to reassess your argument.

I watched that Texas game. I hope Hill is out before we play him. That guy looks like a huge problem.

I mean we blitz to stop the run, Williams is a great rb, or hill will keep it and run for 5, then throw short pass for 3, then again the headache of a fast qb.

Gardner is a better passer I think, but Hill is a little faster. Great all American LB and WR.

Got three tickets in section 1 taking my nephew to his first game and just happened to pick this bad boy.

Let me finish with ND is better on defense and offense. Keys to this game will be stop the qb/rb option scramble. Score at least 30+ and run the ball eat the clock. Go Irish

Someone make me feel better or trade me some Navy tickets! Looking for 3.

I'm at a bit of a loss as to why people have been calling this a "probable" loss. I haven't seen anything from BYU that would make me think that. Also, has anyone bothered to look at their remaining schedule? Boise State, Houston, Wiscosin, George Tech and Utah State. That's a really tough run based on how those teams have all played this year and there's a good chance that they could lose every game.

Pretty sure the post you quoted in another thread actually said possible, not probable.

EDIT: I stand corrected. Just found it and it says possible, but highlights BYU and says probable. I agree, that is absurd.

Actually, any game giving up three turnovers and 150 yards in penalties is a "possible" loss. This team has just played sloppy in every single game so far. If they improve even somewhat in that area there is no doubt in my mind we beat BYU.

I wouldn't say probable...I would say possible...

Hoffman is going to get his. If our Dbacks lag, Hill can get it there in a HURRY, and he can buy time w/ his feet. He also seems to pick up good chunks of yards running it. We haven't dealt with that kinda guy at all this year(ie that kinda guy has torched us). The blessing thus far is Hill has no touch, and questionable accuracy.

Their running game is evolving.

However, no matter who we play, we usually get a guy's one game bid for all American. Expect that from Hill, or Hoffman, someone from the D, or just some guy whose name we do not know yet. Its coming.

NDs offense will score points...21-27 or so. I'd say we could score at will due to our size and advantage at skill positions, but we don't execute consistently enough yet for me to say that. At this point I think NDs defense needs to play a reasonable game, and the offense needs to start somewhere slightly better than suicidal...not asking for a well oiled machine, or even frenetic...I'd take comatose...just not pointing a gun at ourselves....and we should get the W.

Phil Steele was on Bill King's show this morning and said we should have no problem with the next 3 games, but he said BYU is a strong team and we will be tested.

Our offense should be able to score all day on BYU. Keeping them from scoring will be the test.

Still worried about this game my nephews first game. I just want him to have a victory at this game. Sucks wish I could take him to Navy.

Still our Defense will be the best they have played all yr. just hate that QB they have kid can run, and pass pretty good.
