Bill Connelly (of SBNation and Football Outsiders) just published his 2013 preview of BYU:

Since BYU's move out of the Mountain West and into independence, I've considered it an honorary BCS-level squad, right alongside Notre Dame. The Cougars have never had any major-conference affiliation, but they have a national title and a Heisman in the trophy case, and they have played at a reliably major level through most of the last four decades.

And with 2013's schedule, they are certainly acting like a major program. Holy moly. In a month's span late in the season, BYU visits both Wisconsin and Notre Dame and welcomes Boise State to town. They host Texas and Utah in September, make an early trip to Virginia, and, in all, play seven BCS conference teams, plus Utah State and Boise State, 2012's two best mid-majors. In all, only two opponents are projected worse than 75th, and seven are projected 52nd or better. That is a very impressive slate, better than that of a lot of BCS teams.

BYU could be ready for it, too. It's difficult to make an outright guarantee of that with an all-sophomore offensive backfield, new faces on the offensive line, and new players complementing Van Noy. But the Cougars still have Van Noy, Cody Hoffman, an active secondary, and a world of potential on the defensive line. And they might have an offensive identity to boot.

All bets are off if Taysom Hill gets hurt, but I see BYU as a legitimate Top 20-25 team heading into 2013. And if the Cougars are ready to actually close games this time around, they could escape from a tough schedule with a lot of tough wins. I like this team a lot.

What do you guys think of BYU this yr. thinking about this game or navy.

Ha... Looking to maximize the chance of seeing a victory, eh?

Navy is gonna be a dumpster fire this season, IMO. There isn't much to be positive about when it comes to their roster. But they always play hard and chop block, so you never know. I've gone to two Navy games and had fun at both. The Navy fans are usually navy vets, current military or parents of a military son/daughter. So it's a more reserved/respectful scene. Great game to take kids to or go to without having to worry about wild scenes.

BYU can suck it. I actually think that they will be improved this year though. By seasons end, they had some improved QB play an were improving each week. We better steamroll those bastards this year though. Last years game made me want to puke out of my nose. If you're single, Mormon girls are naughty.

That's all I got.

Thanks going to take my nephew to his first game so I wanted a victory for him. I got a chance to get BYU tickets so I got them.

Yes they played very hard last yr. They got a great LB, RB, and WR so I was trying to get some info on the rest of the team.

I know they had a great DL that left early for the draft. Got to say with Golson I had no worries, with Tommy I just think everyone is going to drop and rush 3. Got faith in my boy Tommy I want to see him do well his senior season.

I hope they do. I'll take 4-5 yards a rush from our backs and great o-line every time

Section 1 Row 23 seats 21,22,23. I need some info on this team been looking them up all day. the return 7 offense, and 4 defense.

So my thoughts were BYU should be good on offense, our defense should be able to get after the QB just those hurry up cross passes get on my nerves. Plus they have a great RB so that's pretty balanced.

Now our offense should be able to score more than 17 on BYU this yr. RB's are good, Offensive line should hold for Tommy, so if we get some protection for Tommy we should have some long drives, and put up at least 28.

I think it will be a similar game to last year. BYU is basically the same team. If we contain Cody Hoffman (one of the best WR in the country), our defense shouldn't have any trouble. Offensively, hopefully the coaches open up the playbook and don't play as conservative as last year. That should result in more points.

Can anyone explain why we are playing BYU at home two years in a row?

Yeah I thought that was a type-o. Also its going to be senior day so this will be the likely the last time Martin, Nix,Shembo, and Tuitt are going to be at ND stadium. Here's to them having a good home finale since they are part of the "Turning point"

Because that was the agreement they signed with us. They went independent and were looking for games if I remember correctly, we came at them with this deal and they signed. It was a six game contract that I am guess we may have to get out of some on the back end.

Thanks. I decided not to be lazy and look it up: BYU-Notre Dame set series - College Football Nation Blog - ESPN

We play 4 of the 6 games at home. I guess when you're ND you can offer take-it-or-or-leave-it deals to the likes of BYU.

So this is a matter of "under" grad vs "over" grad? Shouldn't this be shifted to the Leprechaun Bookie/Betting Parlor thread?

What's the ROI differential between an ND BA (or BS) and an ND PhD?

Saw this they act like unless they get to the QB they are going to get picked apart in the passing game.

I want all the help we can get taking my nephew to his first game so I would love a good 21pt lead/win.

They have a good skill players on offense, and a great LB. Those are the guys I will be watching this yr.

I would just like the best chance at seeing a easy win. lol
I have faith in this team, and really like Tommy. I would love to see hime go out with a great season. The guy for being in the shadows has been a key to ND becoming Elite again.

How do you guys think we will do against a hurry up.
Got to say BYU looks good on offense. looks like they are going to use a bunch of option plays. That plus they have a great RB,WR means it could be a problem if they get rolling.

I think our D-line is tops, but the spread style option with a fast QB has me a little worried.
