I hate BC. Worst fans ever. Timing of this game right before the end of the season scares me. I won tickets but damn if I'm not afraid to go. Don't think I could handle watching a loss in person to those a$$hats.

What do you mean by "worst fans ever"? I've lived in MA for most of my life and honestly couldn't list the name of one "BC fan". There won't be many of them at or around the stadium. But, if you aren't comfortable going, I'd love to talk about those tickets of yours..

I'm fairly confident that this is the "trap game" this year... in large part because I think BC will be much better than most expect.

From the article:

What's Not To Like About the Matchup

The Eagles have a bye week and will have 2 weeks to prepare. They're likely to be better on offense late in the season. Shamrock Series offers some distractions, particularly in Boston just 4 miles from Chestnut Hill. An Irish loss in Fenway would make Boston College's decade.

The bolded, and the idea this will be BC's Super Bowl, are the ONLY things that concern me about this matchup right now. I don't think BC is going to be very good at all. I was talking to the father of a '15 BC signee, who is also a HS football coach, and everyone around the program is very concerned about their OL situation (replacing all 5 starters). They are going to have a lot of trouble running the ball and there's no Matt Ryan waiting in the wings to carry their passing game. I'm not an Addazio fan so maybe it's wishful thinking, but I think this is our 10th toughest game this season ahead of UMASS and WF.

I'm hoping they go throwback and UA does something for BC as well.

Green jerseys of some sort seem the way to go for ND right? In Boston and the Green Monster right there? I'd like to see what we wore for 2010 Yankee Stadium, with a shamrock on the helmet and sweet green socks and cleats.

If you would like to see a rerun of the 2002 disaster, then green is a good choice!!!

I have probably been to 5 or 6 BC games, all at ND, all after 1993. Worst visiting fans, year in, year out.

And yeah, I know I have lots of options with the tickets. The extra cash will be well spent on Clemson and Pitt for sure.

You must have missed some of the 90s and early 2000s Michigan games. The Wolverine fans were completely obnoxious and I remember them picking fights on campus every time they visited. They were much tamer the last decade or so though. A few embarrassments in South Bend and a couple crappy coaches will do that to you I guess.

Which will totally explain why BC fans are so tame...

It isn't a huge margin between UM and BC fans, IMO, but I give BC the edge.

Grew up surrounded by BC "fans." I don't think any of them could name more than a couple players on the team. They couldn't even sell out their small stadium when they were undefeated late in the season with Matt Ryan.

They combine the obnoxiousness of a Boston fan (I don't mind saying it) with the knowledge of a fair-weather fan. Like I said, I grew up surrounded by people who would identify as BC fans, and I do not know a single person who ever actually attended a game...or who would even make a point to watch them on Saturdays. It's such a weak fan base, this city just doesn't care about college sports that aren't hockey.

Simple formula for what you are feeling.

Douchiness of fans = Douchiness of university + geographical Douchiness

BC Douchiness < UM Douchiness
Northeastern Douchiness > Midwestern Douchiness
Northeastern Douchiness > UM Douchiness

Ergo...BC Fan Douchiness > UM Fan Douchiness

Your model is flawed because it ignores the subset within "Northeast douchiness." There's a broad discrepancy between New England douchiness, New York douchiness, and Philadelphia douchiness.

Fair point. However, while the douchiness of each of those subsets is inherently unique, the overall douchiness output is strikingly similar.

Regardless, nobody here cares about college football. It's pretty depressing. Even with my coworkers, HERE of all places, I mostly get blank stares when I try and talk CFB.

I have those pants...

Shouldn't you change your name to Fancypants8507, then? ;)

I don't think it's quite fair to generalize all sports fans from the northeast as douchebags,... I mean, in truth all northeasterners are just douchebags across the board, sports fan or not......

Perhaps I should have spelled it out much clearer......the formula applies to the general geographical population.....so I agree!!

Although I don't actually own any Vineyard Vines, I've decided to embrace my "preppy douche" role in this community.

I was at the thrift store the other day and I got three like-new Brooks Brothers shirts for six dollars each! That's a bahgain!

Back to your regularly scheduled thread.

This is definitely not directed at you, but this really grinds my gears. I can't stand when people who have the economic ability to buy new clothes choose to purchase from thrift stores. I have worked with far too many people who go from thrift store to thrift store looking for certain clothing needs and cannot find what they are looking for while others shop there because it's "cool" or b/c they are cheap. If you are into the whole "reuse b/c it's good for the environment"....good for you. Shop at local garage sales. Just don't take it away from the people who can really only afford to spend $3 on a shirt.

End rant.

Seems a douchiness equation discussion is 100% on topic for BC, USC and UM threads.

NDAcct is dead on with my evaluation though. I also find fair weather fans to be incredibly more obnoxious than true fans.

I'm not sure what the thrift stores are like near you, but the ones near me have no shortage of supply whatsoever. They have gazillions of every type of clothing in all sizes imaginable. Nobody "needs" a $90 dress shirt, and if I can buy one for $6 you can be damn sure I'm going to buy it and not worry about any poor person who comes in behind me who will *only* be able to get the $60 Ralph Lauren shirt for $4.

It isn't about "needing" a Polo shirt. It's about needing a dress shirt and only having $4 to spend on it. The name on the tag or the logo on the chest means nothing.

I am happy the supply in your area is not lacking. I figured that was the case with all of those Nantucket folk who turn over their wardrobe quarterly. Hence why it wasn't directed at you in particular.

First, I don't buy shirts with logos, nor for the name. I buy them for their quality. Second, as I said, there are hundreds of dress shirts available for those that need them. I just pick the ones I like. I also donate at least as much used clothing as I purchase, so I'm a net giver to the thrift economy.

The logo and name was in response to the fact that you were saying nobody needs a $90 shirt while rattling off brand names and not worrying for someone who only gets a Ralph Lauren shirt for $4. Like you, it isn't the logo they seek, it's the shirt.

But in your area, it sounds like that isn't an issue which is good.

I mentioned brand names merely as a differentiator. In other words, me buying "Shirt A" still leaves them "Shirt B," "Shirt C," and "Shirt D," which are just as good, just not the one I happened to like.

Completely unrelated to what you guys are talking about but just found out me and my Grandfather will be at the game. Going to be sitting ~10 rows off the field right around the 25-30. Needless to say I am super pumped.

Wizards is getting abusive with the ETA. I think we need to nip this one in the bud now and have it's use banned.

That, or it needs to be rewritten as EtA. ETA should only be used for "Estimated Time of Arrival" and "Elvis Tribute Artist."

Never ceases to amaze. Solid blue states thriving on trickle down economics.
