The silver lining to them beating the crap out of us BK's first year is that I don't think BK will ever try to treat them nice again. Weis never understood that despite their service they are the enemy when we are on the field. BK understands that now, and has no problem running up the score on them.

I would hope that he has more class than to run the score up on the future sailors, soldiers, airmen, and marines, who will be protecting this country and it's interests around the world.

Our defense is right along with Pitts defense by stats. I think with us playing the Option 2 weeks in a row we are probably as prepared as we will be. I think after the first Drive for Air Force our defense played pretty good. We could see almost the exact game just a different team. However Navys defense is a little better but i think we will be ok.

If you take that perspective, why shouldn't we run up the score? It is legal after all (for the record I am not a fan of running up the score with starters in but if we have our 2nd and 3rd team in then I am all for it).

You could make an argument that running up the score is intentionally disrespectful to the other team, while cut blocking is merely employing a technique that tries to even out the size disadvantage along the line.

I don't get it. 230lb linemen diving at the knees of 290lb D-linemen and some of the ugliest football to watch. They should play against the Ivies...let the smart guys figure it out.

The Naval Academy was, at the same time, having a hard time finding room for all of the men they needed to train, for the war effort. ND offered to house instructors and midshipmen, and give them use of facilities............... for a price. The Navy's money saved ND, financially, and the ND administration made a promise to the Naval Academy, that they would put them on the football schedule, whenever they wanted, for the rest of time. We all know how important honor and integrity are, to the ND brand.

I understand what you are saying, but that's like saying it should be illegal for a defensive lineman to fall on top of a QB, when sacking him. I bet that more QB shoulders have been damaged that way, than knees have been damaged by Navy linemen cut blocking.

Disrespectful? If you leave your starters in yes. If we get up 42-7 and put our back ups in and they score another 14-21 points then it is fine (even if you keep throwing the ball as the 2nd and 3rd team players need to practice the offense in game settings).

I think a cut block is a block at the knees. An illegal crackback is where the receiver leaves the area of the line and returns to deliver a block below the belt. A chop block is where the defender is engaged head to head and a second guy blocks low. The latter two are illegal. I think all three should be, if by "cut block" you are talking about a block on the knees. I would allow low frontal blocks on the thighs or shins; it evens things up for a smaller blocker, which doesn't seem unfair. But the knees are vulnerable and should be off limits. I would stand correction if someone thinks I'm wrong.

I think you need to let your back ups run the regular offense so if that includes some deep throws I am with it. Having said that it is running up the score on purpose with starters is classless not illegal just like cut blocking every play is questionable on the class scale though not illegal.

Not exactly. ND and Navy had played for 15 consectutive years before Pearl Harbor and they've never been off. Notre Dame will KEEP Navy on the schedule for as long as Navy likes.

Just for me, personally, it would depend more on the plays that you call, than the personnel in the game. If you put Hendrix in and run a bunch of play-action post routes? I'd consider that running the score up. If you put Hendrix in and run a lot of read option and some screens, short crossing routes, out routes, and slants? Even if you score every play, I would not consider THAT running the score up. Again, you can't ask your kids not to play hard. But most of us who have watched football for more than a couple of years can tell when a team is going for the jugular(when the opponent is already dead), and when a team is just that much better than another team.
