From their strategy thread

While every phase of the game will be important, the keys to winning this game are:

Stop the Power run game by stacking the box, wrapping up properly and gang tackling. We need to see 3-4 Miami players in on as many tackles as possible. As Miami 224 said, our ends have to be disciplined and keep contain and key on the run. I'll take our corners vs Wimbush any day. We simply have to slow down their power run game and prevent long runs by form tackling, gang tackling and putting a spy on Wimbush. Our DLine and our LBs have to be disciplined and wrap up when tackling. They will be physical in the trenches and both the RBs & Wimbush are a load to tackle so we need to excel at bringing them down and avoid missed tackles.

That’s one posters point of view. Stacking the box will lead to long vertical passing gains. ND receivers and tight ends are beginning to get in sync with BW. If they don’t drop passes, ND receivers would run wild after the catch. That’s the devil of the ND offense, it can generate big plays both ways.

Mark Richt is smarter than that. He will try to confuse BW with coverages - looking like a stacked box and back out into coverage or bringing blitzes from corners. Head up straight stack the box and I think ND dismantles them.

I don’t know enough about Miami’s defense to know if it can pull over masked coverages

I just saw that the stadium has already replaced the grass four times this year. Lol. It ought to be great for us.

wonder if they will change it again this week? Looks like crap right now on the dolphins game

For what it's worth, my site shows ND -2.5...and the people that run the site don't adjust the line...it's only adjusted as Vegas/Pinnacle adjusts them in real time.

Quick! We gotta get this over to Kelly and Co.!
I'm surprised that other teams haven't figured this out yet.

Honestly I think the guy over simplified things. Like others before me have said, it's a double edged sword. People that think we are a one trick pony obviously don't understand football... looking at you Doren.

I don’t know. I’m assuming Miami has some speed in the back end. If they have good coverage guys, I would not be too afraid to play man against our WRs. Wimbush has been sporadic as have our WR’s. Our rushing game has shown up big time almost every week. I would be more afraid of that than Wimbush beating me deep. Should be a great game.

This sounds fantastic, except for two things:

1. Our receivers don't catch the ball very well

2. Wimbush is terrible throwing long passes

Miami's Rushing Defense is ranked 77th giving up 177 yds per game.
Of the six Power 5 opponents, they have held their opponent under their average twice -
-- Georgia Tech (#1 nationally Rushing Offense, averaging 349 yds/gm) -- 226 yards.
-- Virginia Tech (43rd, 182.63 yds per game) - 102 yards

Miami's rushing defense for the other four P5 opponents surrendered more yardage than those teams average in Rushing Offense.
-- Syracuse (64th, ave 158.8 yds/gm) - 264 yards
-- Duke (66th, ave 158.38 yds/gm) - 183 yards
-- Florida State (85th, ave 143.75 yds/gm) - 203 yards
-- North Carolina (93rd, 137.67 ave yds/gm) - 176 yards

Notre Dame's Rushing Offense is ranked fourth nationally at 324.78 yds per game (FBS opponents only).
Our P5 opponents Rushing Defense rank/ave and result against us. Except for Georgia, our R.O. has significantly exceeded opponents' averages, sometimes double that average.
-- Michigan State (3rd nationally, 87.00 yds/gm) - 182 yards
-- Georgia (5th, 97.38 yds/gm) - 55 yards
-- NC State (25th, 131.00 yds/gm) - 318 yards
-- USC (63rd, 171.7 yds/gm) - 377 yards
-- North Carolina (102nd, 205.11 yds/gm) - 341 yards
-- Wake Forest (104th, 205.38 yds/gm) - 380 yards
-- Boston College (108th, 206.22 yds/gm) - 515 yards

Our opponents' Rushing Defense average is, of course, reflective of their game against us. For example, without ND's 318 yards rushing, NC State's Rushing Defense would be averaging 91 yds/game, which would rank them fourth nationally. Without our game, USC's Rushing D would rank 34th nationally instead of 63rd.

I'm already starting to get nervous about this one. Gonna be a long saturday waiting for this one. Just hope the boys come out ready to go and play well. I'll try to accept any result as long as we play well.

Technically Miami fans are correct and ND fans are correct. Everyone knows the statistical strengths and weaknesses of both teams. Now it's abut who can execute and/or who can dominate.

I'll be nervous all week and during the entire game.

Guys, I understand that I posted a fan's strategy. I also understand that what he said is the basic book against us. The reason I posted it was because not only is he calling for a lot of what everyone else has called for against us, but that he (and all the others in the thread) just seem to assume that their guys will easily do what they say just like every other team has thought.

Understood. And we assume our guys will easily do what they've done all season excepting one, Georgia. We're all believers in our teams and I think Miami is looking vastly better in light of their Va Tech win. I don't know how good Va tech is but I hope we are locked in.

We can make a statement in this game or we can be left hat in hand.

As a fan, this is all you can hope for every Saturday: something to be excited about.

Ugh I hate Miami so much. JLo, A-Rod, and these people. Top two worst cities in America are Miami and LA, and I'm not sure what order.

Thinking Oklahoma 2012. It will still be a stunner as I believe many still do not believe the ND hype.

If there was a time for a let down, it was WF. I didn't like that they were able to score so much, but I firmly believe this team will be ready for Miami. It's a ranked opponent, it's a night game (we know how to play in those), heat and humidity won't be as bad as it would have been for a day game, ESPN GD will be there. I have no doubt Miami has this teams attention.

It will be close, but this team improves every week. BW isn't Peyton Manning, but his passing has improved every week since he sat out a game.

F these chumps. I can't wait to see Miami quit in the 3rd quarter. BC, MSU, USC, NCST....people can't handle ND RTDB.

I think we are worrying about much of nothing... Miami lets up 170 yards rushing a game against average teams.

If we stick to what got us here, I think we run right through them in a route

What do you all think about BK's comments of "not dwelling on the past" in regards to the past Miami games and the rivalry? I kinda think the team should be. They should watch the 30 for 30 Catholics vs Convicts. They should hear Holtz say "After we kick their butts, you save Jimmy Johnson's ass for me". They should see the pregame fight. They should hear what the game meant in the past. Because Miami will be doing that. They will show up in the gold chains ready to play nasty. Our boys better be too.

Miami and it's not even close.
And when did fucking A-Rod become a Canes fanboy? What a dipshit.

Yes, everyone's tried to stop us that way and only Georgia has succeeded. Trouble is Miami is probably the most athletic defense we've played since Georgia (USC was pretty beat up on the D Line and their corners are rarely as good as advertised). So if anyone can do it, they can.
That said, hopefully we learned something from the Georgia game. Also I think Wimbush has looked a lot better throwing the ball the last couple of weeks, certainly better than he was in Week Two. We'll need his arm at least some on Saturday night.

Disagree. There was a significant racial component to that rivalry, at least as far as jokers like LeBatard are concerned. That's not something you want to introduce into the locker room.

I think that it boils down to ball control. IF ND doesn't turn the ball over, then they march right thru the Canes D line by mid 2nd half. It has to wear on the defensive lines to have those big horses (ND O line) banging on them the whole game. Wear 'em out and "out physical" them as the game wears on!
