Just mentioned them a few times with Ann Thompson (ND Grad) giving analyse from Rome, then switched to a live feed from Notre Dame to get some comments some women who I didn't catch a name on, a professor maybe?

ha, yeah, I've read that he's credited with having achieved some degree of modernization in Argentina, but I think he is basically conservative. At least he's what we would call conservative in this country. He's not pro-gay marriage or anything. He may have been born in South America but it will be basically business as usual.

I'm finding the same thing as Whiskey, he's labeled liberal or moderate, as in the headline of the above article, but then when I dig deeper he appears to be basically conservative.

Socially Moderate and Theologically Conservative is what I see. But find me a member of the clergy that isn't Moderate to Liberal on social issues.

Yes, Diego Maradona is on record in 1986 as saying:

is that enough of an authority?? Maradona meant it in a different context though.

I don't follow. He strikes me as conservative on social issues such as gay marriage and abortion. Or do you consider those theological issues? If so, what are social issues? He seems to be a real champion of the poor, if that's what you mean, but as you say that's pretty uncontroversial.

Yeah. There is a theological underpinning for the Church's stances gay marriage and abortion. I guess they are social issues too though. I was looking at social issues as the ones that fall within Catholic Social Justice. Just the way my mind draws the dichotomy.
