ND's Talking Heads ... The good, bad & ugly

There are at least a few people on Twitter saying they are cancelling their subscriptions. One of them tagged Driskell, who then defended Prister for offering his opinion and scolded the tagger for tagging him, but then said he vehemently disagreed with Prister.

What makes Prister's stance worse is that he used last year's SMU team and Louisville's last 3 years' performances as reasons why Miami's 2 losses shouldn't be considered bad losses.

Note to Prister: comparatively speaking, they are bad losses and previous years' performance has nothing to do with whether or not they should be considered bad. The only playoff-caliber team with a worse loss (only one of them) is Bama against FSU. All losses aren't equal, so when you compare the losses, which a proper analysis requires, it shouldn't be hard to say Miami's 2 losses are the worst of the 12 highest-ranked teams, and can, therefore, be considered bad losses.

For a beat writer to go out of his way to advocate for ND to be left out if the final spot is between ND and Miami, which is a very possible scenario, is dumb. But his justification for doing so is even dumber.

Here's an example of a subscriber he pissed off, which includes the snippet from Prister's article:

Mike Ryan Ruiz is quickly becoming the most nauseating personality in all of sports media.

Ya'll really want a man who has been dedicated to ND to be fired for voicing an opinion that is contrary to every other ND fan? What he publishes doesn't tip the scale one iota, who cares. I don't agree with his thoughts. I think ND is superior in every data point except the first one that occurred to start the season.

It shouldn't be ND or Miami. Both seem pretty damn good. It should be Miami and ND vs BYU, Oklahoma and Alabama

Exactly, and that's what's getting lost here. Notre Dame and Miami are probably the two best of those five teams.

Maybe Bama has a case. But they have been inconsistent. I think no-offense-Oklahoma will get rolled in the first round by whoever lands in the 9 spot. BYU is in over its head here.

They're both also probably better than Ole Miss but only having the one loss puts Ole Miss in a different category.

I agree, we're debating the wrong either/or; the scam is if ND & MIAMI would have to fight for one spot. But, if that's the case - it should go to Miami (even though I THINK Notre Dame is better now).

Agreed. The SEC has failed to differentiate its 10-2/11-1 teams. That is their own scheduling failure, and the rest of college football should not be paying for it by giving them five CFP berths.

I wonder what the odds are of the people who are making a big fuss of Prister writing about THE BIGGEST CFB PLAYOFF storyline that involves the team he covers and giving his opinion are the same dumbfucks who superchat Coach Dew to talk about the 2015 team and start prayer threads because their cousins boyfriends dog has worms.

Pretty wild that glasses-in-trucks PFPs on twitter basked in the anti-ND stuff that Dew was putting out constantly about Kelly for years but Prister is the devil L O L.

He can't get fired. He's the boss.

And fired isn't the point. Subscribers have every right to stop subscribing for any reason, but especially if the publisher has a hot take that advocates for leaving their favorite team out of the playoffs if a certain scenario happens. I mean, he could have said nothing. That option was available to him.

Or he could have just focused on the real problems - the 5 autobids no matter what, the G6 auto bid, and the ACC's very dumb CCG tiebreaking rules. Instead, he decided to chime in with all the obnoxious Miami fans and say, "Yeah, you guys are right, everyone else is wrong. If it comes down to it, Miami should get in ahead of ND."

And he used extremely dumb reasoning to support his stance.

For what it's worth, I like Prister, but sometimes he gets in his own way. He deserves to take some heat. And it doesn't help that, when people pointed out that his reasoning was dumb, instead of acknowledging that, he doubled down:

I don’t have a problem w/ his logic & trying to look at it through an unbiased lens. The problem is he needs to be more savvy and realize that once he prints/posts something like that, it’s not going to be for ND eyes only. This has become so political & subjective that you have opposing fans (& media members) looking for anything to use against ND. Tim, more than anyone; should realize that. Unfortunately, it’s probably going to ruffle some feathers in the Gug as well which will adversely affect his access & relationships

He's entitled to his opinion, but it's very stupid for him to post such an opinion this week of all weeks. Half of our beat either actively hates our team or is so busy trying to be "objective" (while writing for an outlet called Irish Illustrated or something similar). Meanwhile, every journalist and media person who has ever so much as stepped foot in the state of Florida is acting like this is some cosmic injustice directed at them. Not that I want any from ND to be as petulant or whiny as Miami people, but you don't have to actively throw us under the bus a few days before the final selection.

This Prister meltdown is ridiculous. He's a beat writer, not a fan. His job is not to make you feel good all the time. Believing ND is better but that their resume isn't better than Miami's is a perfectly defensible take. Canceling subs and melting down on Twitter over this is embarrassing.

The good news about never subscribing to any of these clowns is I have no subscriptions to cancel. He can have his "defensible take" but to act like it's crazy that ND fans would be upset about this is embarrassing and Prister is a moron if he didn't think this was like dropping a grenade into Irish nation.

Right now ESPN is sowing the Anti-ND sentiment for opting out of the bowl. Brett McMurphy as well since he's naturally close to all of the bowl sources.

NBC needs to lead the full on assault against ESPN. AD PB needs to lean on his former colleagues to push back against ESPN. FOX was doing it's part with Mark Ingraham (Bama alum at that) but the door is open for a legitimate gripe against ESPN - well beyond our ND grievances.

This CFP committee debacle this year should open up the door to multiple networks broadcasting playoff games similar to the NFL. I know it's not as easy as just wishcasting it to the ether, but it's clear that all of interests being controlled by one conglomerate means it's rife with corruption.
