By all metrics this is the historically best ND football team we have had in 30 years. We all know we can beat anyone in the playoff and they would be insane to leave ND out. But I also wouldn’t put it past the committee to try to force ND’s hand in joining a conference this year by leaving them out to make that point.

People on X and 247 are losing it. Bunch of people have canceled subs and heading towards ISD. Pristers post was insane to make.

I don't see how it'd force ND's hand to join a conference. If ND doesn't play UM and AM in weeks 1 and 2, and instead played them in Oct/Nov, it's highly likely that ND is 12-0 and ranked #1 in the CFP. Being left out this year won't have anything to do with conference affiliation. You still have to win your games.

I don't really understand why people are cancelling their subs, tho. Prister's main crime is he is an old man that doesn't understand the internet. He's entitled to his opinion, even if it's one I disagree with.

What sucks is he's gonna be all high and mighty about this shit on a future pod. 🤣

12-0 Notre Dame is in even if they played all MAC teams and Navy. They wouldn’t be a top seed, but they would be in.

There’s no forcing our hand and will be in the playoffs this year.

The issue is everyone in media is campaigning against Notre Dame then our own beat does the same. It’s a betrayal.

He probably just doesn’t want to travel before X-mas.

Pretty cool article. Won't share all but the final vote went-

• Notre Dame: The receivers coach and running backs coach

• Miami: The head coach

• Both: The offensive coordinator

• Hedged: The defensive coordinator

I know who I think the head coach was

Meh, Prister has always had that attitude of being the grumpy old man who knows more than the listeners. If people no longer want to pay to hear that condescension, I get it. It's not his opinion people are upset about. It's publicly advocating for ND not to make the playoffs as a ND journo, while at the same time taking ND fans money for the privilege of hearing his opinion.

I mean, Prister is basing it on the fact that 1993 he said head to head matters and is just staying consistent at least.
In this case, he's wrong because ND is dramatically improved throughout the season and context matters.

I know who the OC is based on the one play Bowen covered the RB. 🤣

The difference between our resume and Oregon's is that Oregon is 11-1 and we are 10-2. Both of us have the same "best win" (USC). It has nothing to do with conference affiliation, it has to do with the front-loading of the schedule + bad play/coaching early in the season.

Also, we've had really bad luck this year: Bama losing (as a favorite) to OU in a bizarre game; Miami losing (as a favorite) exactly twice -no more, no less- to keep them out of the ACCCG; the ACC tiebreaker rules. Normally, 10-2 ND is where OU is and not sweating about making it.

If we're in the ACC, we win that lame-ass conference almost every year. So I guess we'd be in the playoffs, but it would be boring as hell.
If we're in the Big Ten, maybe we play one of OSU/IU/Oregon this year instead of either A&M or Miami. If we lose that one instead of A&M/Miami, we're 10-2 and on the bubble for an at-large. So what's different?
I realize I'm applying logic to what's really an irrational/emotional issue for those who think we're somehow cheating the system here. But I don't see how this would force our hand at all.

…and then these chuckleheads wonder why Freeman doesn’t want them anywhere near the team.

At least if we were in the big ten, playing OSU/IU/Oregon would have been after we figured stuff out. So likely 11-1.
Another reason to join in my book.

I understand that metrics suggest ND is better than Miami but what’s the point of metrics in general?

that's how the BCS used to work its magic. combining all of the metrics, SOS, SOR, efficiency, etc and spitting our beautiful computer rankings that didn't have the subjectivity poison we are now so accustomed to.

As related to CFB, to use quantitative data in a systematic process to describe teams/players/coaches and their performance, make robust decisions, and understand college football in a way that wouldn't be possible by just looking at raw data.

The whole ND beat thinks they are holier than thou. It’s sickening. Screw them.
Marcus is lucky that he's winning, because you haven't even *begun* to read insufferable, holier than thou content from the ND beat until he slips and then they can get revenge on him for freezing the ND beat out.

I'd happily join the Big Ten at this point, too, and I don't love the increasingly frontloaded schedules we're playing either.
I just don't think leaving us out of the playoffs is some checkmate masterstroke that would force our hand.

Lol, you guys are going to send TP into retirement.

I'm still a fan, but he shouldn't have put that out there.

Who pissed in your Cheerios or did someone say god damn again and fuck with your impeccable virtues.
Nah some bitches people made some noise in a different thread and I stood up for the guy with faith. Your lack of fucks given have been noted.

Seeing people take subtle jabs at Freeman and his staff for how they've handled the roster seems really short-sighted. The same coach who took an overmatched/depleted team to the national championship game. The same one who has possibly steered them to another playoff selection. The same coach who just signed the best recruiting class we've seen in 2+ decades. I guess I'm also standing up for our Coach and his staff's personnel decisions. There isn't a bottomless well to pull money from so real analysis/hard decisions will happen every year.
