You have the right to be paranoid. It's like cable. Most of you are too young to remember, but cable when it first came out was commercial free because you paid a monthly subscription. They slowly over time added commercials and told you it was to keep from passing along rising costs to the subscriber. You figured a few commercials were better than seeing your cable bill go up.

That's super depressing.

I suspect the ads will come in a form that aren't strictly ads, but sponsored articles to get around the "no ads ever" restriction. Articles about how "Company" made the suit for "Athlete" at the draft and how every suit is hand tailored and blah blah blah, and then the rest of the article will be about the guy getting drafted and a person who isn't really paying attention won't see the *Article sponsored by Company disclaimer at the bottom.

Wtf is this true?!?

Yes it is. There were no packages back then. You got basic cable and paid extra if you wanted Showtime or HBO. They were the only movie channels available and they only showed movies. They weren't into creating their own series or movies. The number of channels available was pretty small with a lot being shopping networks. It was a cruel world back then.

You didn't if you gave Crusader $100. In exchange I'd give you a hot plate that if I remember this correctly, would enable you to get all premium channels for free if you hooked it up between the cable box and the tv. Once again, that was the rumor.

If you turned that channel on after a certain time (or one of the scrambled channels), i think it was around 1 am, you'd get the first 5-10 mins unscrambled which was usually enough time to see some nudies. Many a night were spent waiting for those golden minutes.

Or you just went out to the cable box and took off the filter. I knew many that did that. They tell me it worked great.

That's pretty much what you saw.

While there was only HBO and Showtime each of those had several feeds to cover the countries time zones. If you missed something on the east coast feed, you could catch it on the west coast feed.

My stepdad "confiscated" one of these from the police locker one day for "professional study on pirated cable."

Aka, we watched Wrestlemania that weekend for free, and then young IrishLion discovered Channel 72 later, and was changed forever.

It's gonna be dope. Very cool that Hayes gets to be involved, too. I wonder if he's the film and television program.

Is it a coincidence that they give us this option the same weekend that Flutie will be talking up his alma mater?

"Boston College Story Hour(s) with Doug Flute, presented by Notre Dame Football on NBC" doesn't sound appealing.

Yep, I'm tuning in as well.

I do believe Daelin is majoring in communications so this will be right up his alley.

Audibly groaned at the second half of this tweet.

I wish NBC would just do a 180 and do homer ND broadcasts. Stop with the artificial unbiased bullshit (i.e insisting the color guy is always an alum from a rival school).

It should just be a 3 hour recruiting video for ND. When you watch a non-conference game on the Big 10 or SEC network, they don't pull for the nonconference team. It is usually pretty skewed toward the conference team, in fact.

It's just soft. It should be damn the torpedoes, this is the Notre Dame football channel so deal with it. Then the non ND fans can hate ND even more, everybody wins.
