Herbie's whole point is that OU appears to be playing at a high level right now, and they're also the flavor of the week so it's not going to go away. BUT, he isn't thinking about how ND might finish/play. Don't kid yourselves, we need to look REALLY good the next two games to make it a "no-brainer" for the committee. Osu hopped those guys last year because they smoked Wisky. Stanford will still be a top 15ish team and it'll look good if we beat them by 2+scores.

I have a lot of doubt we blow out Stanford by 3+ scores.

I also have a lot of doubt TCU/OK State are as good as Stanford. But that won't matter because life isn't fair.

People act like the quality of loss is the biggest factor when it's clearly not.
Absolutely correct. It would have been better for us to beat Clemson and lose close to Georgia Tech or some team like that. A signature win is far more impressive than a signature loss.

So who to root for this week:
ND.
And enjoy watching the rest unfold. It's not worth the stress till the cloudy water becomes more clear. There are to many factors and scenarios as of this week to spend all day rooting for one to happen.

Personally I like to think this all through and go over all the scenarios. I don't view it as stress. To me it's actually a form of mental exercise that gets me through the workday.

I sincerely apologize if my posts come off as pessimistic but my intent is just to be objective and curb any heartbreak that may occur in two weeks.

Some people post as if they will be watching the final selection committee rankings with absolutely no fear whatsoever when I know I'll be sitting there (if Oklahoma wins out) like

I'll be surprised if OSU makes it through the next two weeks without a loss on their record.

Completely agree. I think they will struggle, and very well could get beat. I legitimately think Iowa could beat OSU considering the type of style they play.

Not saying you are making it up but he had a series of tweets today that all said he doesn't know who gets in between Oklahoma and ND. Said the Stanford loss really hurt us. So that's definitely not his opinion anymore.

All I have to say to that gentleman is.. "Did that Stanford loss to Oregon hurt ND more than Oklahoma getting beat by Texas?"

Ha, I'm on your side with most of this stuff. And I understand a discussion on here amongst common fans about what should, could, or would, need to happen. But I quoted Koom's post specifically because it listed like 20 teams who to pull for or against. That's where it's overboard for me. I personally don't want to sit around AL weekend, for the next 3, watching 10 games a week pulling specifically for one tram in each to 'help' us out. It takes the enjoyment out of it for me personally.

For me it makes it more exciting when I can watch a random game and root for a team. I don't gamble, so I guess this is my 'fix'.

I believe it to be a "Big12 thing" but I'm not as up to date and hip as most on here

That is heinous. In particular Iowa and OSU. They ought to be ashamed of themselves.

To be fair, I'd suspect Iowa historically doesn't spend a lot of time sweating if/how their out of conference schedule might impact their national championship hopes.
Okie State, though, they got left out in 2011, too. They probably ought to try a little harder.

Edit: Wrong OSU. The Buckeyes will jump a lot soon. And it's not their fault Va. Tech sucks.

I'm not excusing bullshit scheduling practices, but SOS is not entirely in a team's control either. Think how much better we'd look if USC and Ga. Tech had lived up to preseason expectations. And if Texas was Texas, instead of North Texas.

I'd love to watch the OK-Texas game to see how the **** they lost. Saturday night was the first OK game I've watched this season and they certainly passed the eye test.

I watched the game. It was the week after the Texas player tweeted at halftime, and they came out spitting fire. Didn't even try to throw the ball, ran an in your face pound it out run game and caught Oklahoma completely off guard. I think they also had a punt block go for a touchdown*? By the time Oklahoma caught their footing, Texas had control of the game and was able to grind it out. That game was Texas's season and they played like it.

It was rivalry football through and through. Oklahoma beats Texas 99/100 times this year.

*Nope. Fumbled the kick-off after Texas's first score, setting up Trxas's second score. There were a string of game breaking fumbled kick off returns around that time, we should remember.

Conversely, think of how much worse we'd look if Temple and Navy weren't both having their best year in the past 40 years.

2 weeks of good games doesn't discount 10 weeks of bullsh*t in my opinion. I feel that way about OSU and all the Big 12 teams.

That's absolutely true, but we aren't going to get points for playing a marquee program that is having a lousy year, at least not relative to most schools (maybe relative to Iowa or Baylor). Oklahoma is unique among Big 12 teams in scheduling (and beating) a semi-tough OOC opponent -Tennessee- on the road. If the good wins > bad losses theory applies, as it seemed to do last year with OSU, we probably aren't getting in over Oklahoma if we both win out.

Interesting theory that is pretty hard to argue

An Introduction to the Juggernaut Theory | Pistols Firing

Well I think the counterargument is that the juggernauts are almost always going to produce the two or four best teams because they have the best recruiting and coaching.

If that guy can only produce two (debatable) instances since 1993 where a non-juggernaut was unfairly left out, I don't think there's much merit to the argument. It's just a product of how good those teams are. He tries to leave out Auburn to support his argument, but they are definitely a historical juggernaut.
