If ND can hang onto Burton that is a win and a must. I figured ND would lose Davis or Njie, I would've rather seen Njie go.

ND needs to be more aggressive in the portal this offseason, whatever NIL money they were going to use to retain Davis go get someone.

The injury bug didn't help in year 2 and when Shrewsburry took over in year 1 he didn't even have enough kids to put on the court.

How does a successful guy like Davis decide to transfer if he "likes" the current situation? Deduction: He doesn't like it.

So if a good player doesn't like the situation, how does that reflect on the coach? Deduction: badly.

Doubtless this is too simple, but worrisome anyway.

I think it’s too early to put this on the coach. Kids today have a different agenda and mindset. Some think they should get more playing time. Some don’t like the offense. Some think they should be the primary point the offense runs through. Some don’t like to play D and some don’t like being criticized or coached hard. Some get better NIL offers and have no regard for loyalty.

It would be different, I think, if Tae hadn't been a transfer *in* to the program. Losing Burton would speak more credence to there being something amiss than Tae hopping to his 3rd program.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but Davis has only one year of eligibility left. Maybe he just had enough of being on a bad team.

If it came down to keeping Burton vs. Davis, so long Davis...I hope it works out for Davis, but sometimes the grass isn't greener on the otherside.

Something like 1/3rd of D1 rosters transfer every year. It is a complete shitshow everywhere. Maybe Davis sees the kids coming in taking his PT away. Maybe he has an offer from another program on a winning trajectory. So often people pay more for new shiny objects so he could just be exploiting the NIL market for 6'9" guys who have experience.

However, if Shrews doesn't make the tourney next year he should be shown the door. Plenty of coach level issues this year that kept us from turning the season around.

Before ND gets rid of Shrews, I think he should be given the opportunity to make his coaching staff better. I remember when Brey got Anthony Solomon- he could recruit and they played better defense when they made their final 4 run.

Hired his dad a month ago as director of strength and conditioning.
Hope it works out, but it seems like a weird dynamic to have father/son relationships in the sam program. I was glad when Deland's sons didn't transfer to ND

There's a belief he was already an ND lean prior to his dad's hiring, but I'm sure it didn't hurt. His dad is also the legal guardian of a 7'0" Mongolian at LaLu who is getting a lot of offers from a good number of Big10 schools as well as ND, despite no recruiting rank.

Coach Shrews can recruit and having his dad on the ND staff helped with the assist.

I wonder whoelse is on ND's board for the 2026 class.

In a couple years it won’t be a lack of talent on the roster that is a problem anymore.
