Who would have thought that our basketball team would out recruit the football team? Damn

Love seeing this. There is no reason ND can't field a better than average team year in and year out. Jack let Brey stay on way too long.

So the basketball team could end up with two 5star players. Awesome. Tell me again why the football team can’t recruit 5 stars…
Plus two strong 4 stars. This class is already sick. Trying not to get my hopes up here....

This just underscores the point that the university isn’t the detractor or too stringent, it comes down to coaches and relationships. The basketball staff is filled with some dawgs who really excel in that area.

The football program has a few gaps at the present time.

Also, I think the dynamic in basketball where you *could* be a one and done is different than football. In football you’ve got to be a multiyear guy so you’re going to pick a school (in some cases) where if you know you’re league bound, you don’t want to play school.

Blake Wesley—I feel—has given ND some credibility in the one and done space while also still excelling in the market of multiyear guys and developing them.

Football is always going to have the issue of guys having to play school whereas basketball there’s a little more flexibility in that these days.

I've seen Sampson and Omalley mention it that there is a big draw for Shrewsberry's NBA connections and he is really leaning on it.

Shrews and Owens are a pretty good duo. Owens’s AAU scene contacts seem to finally be paying dividends and like you said, Shrews and his connects for getting kids to the Association is going to continue to pay off, too. It’s great spot to be for ND to be a conduit like that.

You make good points. I'd also just point to how each program has built their roster with NIL. ND basketball clearly didn't prioritize the transfer portal at all and is focused entirely on retention and high school acquisition. ND football has gone all in on retention, mostly in but not all in on the portal (thinking about the lack of undergrads), and sorta in on high school. I don't necessarily disagree with either approach. Look at the 2021 recruiting class for example. 17 of the top 20 recruits are all in the NBA. 1 averaged 18/game in college. 1 is a bust. The other had injury issues. Much better ROI on paying high schoolers in basketball than football.

Could it be the CBB portal was clogged with 25 year old sixth year players that are thinning out as Covid eligibility extensions run out? Maybe the portal isn't as juicy with quality upgrades as it once was. Even then, you weren't pulling a pile of NBA quality players - more the solid college guys that couldn't make the jump and milking more college was best ROI.

Either way - Shrews is shopping down a totally different aisle and I can't wait to see the results on the court.

Kudos to Coach Shrews with this class- he won in Indiana and he is getting the star power to have interest in Notre Dame basketball.

Sir Mohammed also got a NIL deal this week.

Coach Shrews is turning this program around.

Wonder if any of this is due to RALLY starting and FUND diverting itself into the new NIL.

Isn't the RALLY the one with Hannah Storm, Jordan Cornette & one other person?

Maybe some of the players that are in the pro leagues are assisting with NIL for the basketball program?

With the time that Coach Shrews has been in the program he is bringing it to another level.

I'm really shocked at the 1 year improvement...amazed he can get these recruits, especially after last seasons record..but you could see the improvement last season...excited for this season.

Well I think we are going to have enough small forwards to fill two teams. Coach seems to love recruiting that position.

A top 5 recruiting class! Just what everyone wanted, and expected when MFMF was hired. So glad to see this come to fruition!

Feel like Cole Anthony's recruitment (caliber of player and media attention) was on another level than Haralson's though
