Paying Tommy shouldn't even be a hard question. That's just putting money back into the alumni pool.

You young fans are living a charmed life when it comes to coaching searches. In my day it took weeks and we ended up talking ourselves into our 6th choice.

I'm 45 and things seem to move much faster than they did back in the day as well. So much of the angst is not impatience as much as it is knowing things can change far quicker than they did back in the day. Couple that with technology that can inform you of new info with the simple refresh of a button and it can wear someone out who is emotionally invested in the program.

Didn't LSU have to buy out Kelly's contract? That's the way it happens with soccer in Europe. This should provide enough cash to pay Rees' increases for years.

Congrats to Coach Marcus Freeman if true. Now let’s get recruits on board that want to be here. No more of this waffling w Meatchicken bullshit. Keep this recruiting train rolling.

And I love the possibility of playing in the Fiesta Bowl against Mich St as is being projected. Let’s get the NY6 Bowl win that Fucknuts Kelly couldn’t get.

 Coan has one Tweet since 2017, and it was in January to say thanks for letting him be Irish.

FWIW, Wimbush and Book have also given their support to Tommy in recent days, either in the Assaf Twitter Space or otherwise. Telling that Wimbush would say something even though he got benched. A lot of other offensive guys have said the same.

It so obviously is done. Beat writers are dead ass silent others than coy tweets. They don't wont to burn sources. For my money it was the right decision for the short term and if he is everything people say for the long term as well. It would be fucking perfect if someway, somehow they made the playoffs and won it all.

I think it would be absolutely delightful if nobody followed Kelly to LSU. Seriously, what a kick in the nuts to that guy that nobody wanted to follow you, except for Quinn. I have made my beef known about Rees, but I would absolutely give him a shot to redeem himself outside of Kelly's shadow. Something Kelly and LSU will need to reflect on....why would everyone tell you "no thanks", especially the one guy who you have been swooning over since you arrived at ND?

What will be really funny is if ZERO of the coaches BK tried to bring to LSU go with him. That will be very telling.
One of the Irish podcasts from yesterday/today mentioned the same exact thing happened when Saban left MSU for LSU. Sent a plane and no one got on lol

At that point, does Kelly then actually hire Quinn down there? As a measure to save face. Or bring Del with him (possibly overpaying to do so)?
Kelly strikes me as enough of a narcissist to HAVE to bring in "his" guys, while also insecure enough to have to have "his" guys.

When was the last time Kelly started a HC gig without "his guys"? GVSU? Can't be a favorable situation for someone with zero ties to the south...

Would love to be a fly on the wall and listen to the phone conversations between Freeman and Fickell past few days. You know they're talking.

LSU fans want Quinn....LOL. Suckers.

Seeing the response from the players for both Tommy and Freeman, along with Balis (I presume Elston would get the same love too at some point), makes me think twice about this season. Everyone talked about how mentally tough the team was and how they didn't give up, yada yada yada. All of that is true and I think the captains on the team get credit first and foremost. But you have to wonder how much Tommy and Freeman behind the scenes, through their relationships / youth / communication skill, were able to keep the team together, especially after the UC loss and the close game at VT. Really eye opening, assuming I am not reading too much into it. It's Holtz like in the way the team would move mountains for the guy who describes himself as.... "I stand 5 feet 10, weigh 152 pounds, wear glasses, speak with a lisp, and have a physique that appears like I've been afflicted with beriberi or scurvy most of my life."

I actually feel bad for Fickell. By all accounts, he really wants the ND job and I think 11 months ago it would have been his. Freeman made the most of his opportunity this year and is the proverbial "right guy in the right place at the right time". I still think Fickell will be a fantastic coach. But Freeman already has his roots in ND's program and ND simply can't wait around.

Fickell will be at OSU one day
Or maybe Freeman will be at OSU and Fickell at ND?

I hear ya. I like Fickell and would be excited for him to come to ND.
I actually feel kind of bad for Clark Lea too. Imagine if he stayed on another year and everything played out the way it did. He could be on the verge of ND job. Instead, he's stuck with Vandy. You know he's gotta be second guessing himself.
