Take it for what its worth..Joel Klatt is calling for a switcharoo with Fickell and Freeman ( Fickell to ND/Freeman to UC) Him and Colin Cowherd both Think ND job is to big for Freeman right now.

I just dont understand why Freeman would take the LSU DC job right now. Isnt it in his interests to keep things open and see how they unfold.

Last I checked, at the very worst, he would still have his ND DC chair open to him. Not to mention that OSU needs a new DC as well.

Realistically... if you hire Freeman today and he flames out, you can always fire him 2 years from now and bring in his replacement on your own timeline. Most likely at least a couple of Fickell/Campbell/Rhule etc are still available at that time. Other than possibly Ohio State, I cant see too many more destination jobs opening up in the next 2 years.

Not to mention, I think there is little doubt that Freeman would leave the cupboard stocked with talented players.

The only downside is if Kelly poisoned Freeman's mind on the obstacles which exist at ND and he ends up over-playing his hand in contract negotiations. If the admin didnt budge for the winningest coach in school history, they sure as well arent doing it for a first time HC.

Take all this FWIW but one LSU 247 mod thinks they get Freeman. Shea Dixon said that there are assistant coaches on the flight with BK. And, he'll be at the airport when they arrive so we'll know in short order who those are. I highly doubt Freeman would be one of the initial guys gone.

Jamie @ ISD just tweeted that BK has touched down at LSU. Anyone know who was with him?

If ND does hire Freeman, they should schedule the press conference tomorrow at exactly the same time BK has his. F him.

That CJ Golson guy is a hack. Pops up every now and then with some hot take rumor he passes on as inside info. For any soccer fans he led the charge on the rumors that Grealish would be staying at Villa this summer. I remember that turned into a huge deal and Villa fans were claiming him as their messiah as he was stating it with extreme certainty.

Interestingly I noticed he was listening to the Assaf chat last night. He knows as much as you and me.

Hypothetically if we don't deem Freeman fit for the job, Fickell is a terrific option that we shouldn't undervalue. He inherited crap from Tuberville and has turned into a top 10 program in short order. BK on the other hand took over for Dantonio at Cincy with a program on much better footing.

The only year ND finished in the top 8 of the SP+ during Kelly's ND era was 2015, where they finished at exactly 8. Right now, ND is at 7 in a down year.

Considering the OSU pedigree as well, I think its fair to say Fickell is a better hire than Kelly was at the same points in their careers.

Dennis Dodd is reporting that Swarbrick is willing to wait for Fickell. If true, that means:
1) Freeman is as good as gone, short of some insane compensation package to get him to stay
2) The recruiting class is going to disintegrate over the next two weeks

Even worse -- the drop in line about "Midwest Catholic recruiting" -- signals a return to utter mediocrity. If this plays out how Dodd suggest, then Swarbrick should be canned immediately. Fickell is the kind of coach who can get you some nice 9-3 seasons while recruiting in the teens.
