Any one here a fan of Chip Lindsey? Has his roots in deep South, known for QB development. Not sure if he is even plausible.

IMO Kelly/Quinn > Kelly/Denbrock. A good WR coach should not be hard to find. Also I heard on II podcast this week that ND was interested in Pitt OC Matt Canada before he took the LSU job.

Not sure how true but Keith Arnold says expect Quinn to stay at TE coach only and Kelly wants an OC/QB coach from outside.

A link to avoid bitchassness.

Not being combative, but........ you KNOW all of this, or this is your best guess about how the season played out?

This was all told to me about two weeks ago from a first hand source that said Denbrock was taking Cinci OC job and I said "that makes no sense" and he explained why it was happening. If Denbrock wants to move up and be a HC he needs to be empowered not undermined, so it's a career move if/when he officially takes it.

I didn't post this info anywhere because I was specifically asked not to. However, another member on this board came to me with similar info from a player a few days ago and I told him to keep it off the board until something was official one way or another, so he can vouch for this as well if he so chooses.

texas is completely different from ALL other areas in america when it comes to their HS Football....it is very real and the coaches of the high school will steer the athletes and coaches who are NOT in the texas coaching circle are viewed as outsiders....it's a huge clique...ur either in or out of it...blackballed would be another word that would come to mind

That's why Herman verbally blew all the high school coaches in Texas during his speech.

He may become a solid coach in his time but we need proven.

Also if going internal for WR why not Grimes?

I've got a plan.

Next to Hunter Johnson, the best player in the state of Indiana is a RB/WR/CB. He had 1500+ yds rushing and 600+ yds receiving and 27 TD's for the state's 6A runner up. Has Northwestern and Bama offers. He's committed to Louisville.

His Dad is the former all time leading receiver in SEC history. Played WR in the the NFL and in Canada over the course of a decade. He's now the OC at Franklin College.

ND needs WR's and a WR coach or maybe another Off analyst.

One and one still equal two?

We need to get some coaches locked up and quickly. As well as a S&C coach.
But this will probably be hard to do not knowing their future. Errrrr

Ton of turnover but bk has no one to blame but himself. He hired bvg and kept him too long while giving him a long leash. He supposedly pissed of denbrock knowing Sanford was going to be a hc candidate. He let his emotions trump results with Longo and booker was questionable from day one. This is his bed, he made it. I really hope this doesn't result in a built in excuse for the year for both fans and administration. I am afraid it will though.

I think 2017 is it regardless of outcome. Either he wins enough to show he can still coach and jumps to another job, or he is bounced and sitting at home in 2018.

Gotcha.......... thanks. I'm going to hope that the Kelly/Denbrock tension that was relayed to you was a little bit of hyperbole based on a little bit of hyperbole relayed to your source. It's really not unusual in any kind of "breakup", for people to choose sides and relate the facts in a manner which is significantly sympathetic to their side, while being significantly pejorative toward the "other side" at the same time. Either way, I hope that Kelly realizes what an opportunity he has at ND, and is pursuing the "right course" and adopting the proper changes to seize that opportunity and run with it.

Wouldn't count on it. Everything I've heard indicates Kelly and ND are both ready for a change. Kelly will still be our HC in 2017 only because the external conditions weren't favorable to making a split after this season. If we get anything out of him next year, it'll be as an audition for his next gig.

That's fine with me, too. If he goes, I'm not going to shed a single tear. As long as he doesn't sabotage the team/program, then ND will be just fine.

If Denbrock wants a head coach job someday, being a true OC at Cincy is probably the way to get there. If he were going to jump to head from being Kelly's OC, he probably would have done so by now. So, makes sense even if it's a pay cut.
I find it a little hard to believe that he's some sort of play-calling savant who single-handedly explains our success in the first two possessions all season and was undermined by lousy Kelly and Sanford thereafter. But, like Moose said, people find all kinds of ways to rationalize a breakup.
I don't claim to understand the staff dynamics but Denbrock seems like a solid citizen and a steadying hand, who'll be missed. Also, it's a bit nervous-making to replace your OC, DC, Special Teams and S&C coach all in one month. But, what the hell, the program needs a bit if a shakeup. And if it doesn't work out they'll all be gone in a year regardless.

You don't go through all these changes for one year. Everything points to Kelly being here 3-4 more years. 10-11 years is usually enough for an ND coach.

To be clear, that's not what I meant. I said that the first few series were scripted and a collaboration with Denbrock, Sanford, and Kelly. So everyone put their heads together during the week and agreed on a good way to attack the opponent.

But most teams, NFL or NCAA, only script about the first 15 plays. I don't know what ND does or how exactly they script or what. Once they got done with that, Kelly took the reigns and wouldn't go with what Denbrock called down in many cases because he didn't like the call. It's "let's go with X" and Kelly says "nah, we're going to go with Y". Not on every play, obviously, just a lot of them. Whether or not Denbrock was calling something better can't really be known or what plays were overruled or why exactly the end result didn't work. But it wasn't a happy marriage and it didn't get the job done, that's for sure. And the person I talked to was also pretty clear that Denbrock wanted to try to run the ball more and Kelly wanted to lean on Kizer, so take that for whatever it's worth.

You assume Kelly is driving these changes. I don't think that's likely. He has historically leaned very hard on his own coaching tree, and has stubbornly refused to make changes long past the point of painful obviousness.

My read is that these changes have as much to do with Swarbrick as Kelly. I don't know of any HC that has come as close to being fired as Kelly was a couple months ago who turned things around and stayed for another 4 years at a blue blood program like ND.

I'm a big time Kelly supporter but I 100% have to agree with your statement of stubbornly refusing to nake necessary changes. It started with bringing BVG back. Resulted in 3-3-5 against Texas?? And stuck with it in the second half?? Then the atrocious play calling....I'm going to wait and see how things go this year but if I continue to see wasted talent and shying away from a productive run game and not putting the proper defensive personnel on the field ie Trumbetti getting tossed around like a JV kid and giving him 80% of WDE snaps, I'm gonna be turning my back on him. I won't turn my back on ND as a program like some sorry asses around here do, but I will not support Kelly anymore.

This is kind of the impression I get. Granted, I don't have the sources you do, but I think the writing is on the wall. IMO, as I've stated before, I think this is BK's last year. If he wins, his parlays that into another position (that the school is happy to let him go to) or ND cuts bait, eats the contract and forges ahead with a list of candidates that I'm sure already exists.

Yes, but in a round about way. I've posted this a couple of times already, but IMO, JS made it clear to BK that he was sitting on a hill of fire ants and if there wasn't significant improvement in 2017, a change in HC's would be made. Regardless of the size of his ego, BK is smart enough to know status quo wasn't going to cut it, so he's taken a hard look at his program and is making changes. Swarbrick is a smart guy, but he's not a football guy and he knows it. Him telling BK what coaching changes need to be made would not be good.

The offense was screwed up from the beginning. You can't go with a 3 headed monster involved in the offense and expect it to work.

Not sure if anyone watched the Wake Forest game but they ran the ball great up the middle. It did look like they were closer to the line than what we do when we hand off.

I will vouch. Same guy told me about Sanford the day before that news broke too. Lax also knew that as well.
