Not really, but whether or not I like a particular movie isn't really the point. How many different Batman/Joker movies can we do? Does the Oscar winning historical epic where the main character dies at the end need a numbered sequel?

It's all just so hackneyed and try-hard. I don't know how else to describe it. Feels creatively bankrupt in a way that falls below my lowest expectations.
Your point about the multiple combinations/rehashing of super hero stuff, I completely agree. I haven't watched any other 'comic book' movies in the past 10-15 years. The volume of content being produced right now might have something to do with it (that and the guaranteed revenue).

I thought Joker painted an excellent picture of a man with mental illness. He tries to be happy, including his attempt to create fictitious father figures for himself in Wayne and Deniro's talk show character, but those get destroyed when they make contact in real life.

Finding out the real story about his mother and childhood served as the final push needed to fully descend into madness. I found myself rooting for a sociopath until the very end when I realized what I was rooting for. I still think it was a phenomenal work, no matter how exhausted I am by the constant churn of recycled content. That movie felt like anything but a recycle, in fact, I thought it was a clear departure from anything that had been done in that space.

The idea of a seeing Phoenix reprise his role as Joker sounds great on the surface but we've already seen the descent, I don't know what a 2nd film could add to this but I hope they find some way to create magic again.

I haven’t looked at any plot points (if any are even out there), but I’d imagine his meeting Harley Quinn is supposed to show him being pulled back from the brink or something, where this insane guy might have some perverted shred of redemption left somehow, only for it to fall apart when his insanity has corrupted her too completely… but in musical format!

Wife and I saw "The Boys in the Boat" tonight. Wonderful film. Based off a true story. Anyone would enjoy this movie,
especially sports fan. Acting was excellent, and the movie had perfect pace also. Go see it when you can.

Those who wish me dead. Pretty decent thriller.

Chapelle’s special Dreamer. Not one of his best but still worth the time.

Brb, been inspired to go watch "Man on Fire" for the first time in a while
Same. I have it in the queue.

All three Equalizer movies did what I wanted them to do. I shut my brain off for a few hours and just watched something that would entertain me to the point of not thinking.

Went to see Godzilla Minus One last week in the theater. It was incredible. Completely different than the US monsterverse version. Obviously with the lower budget the CGI difference is glaring, but the actual humans in the story more than make up for it. Watching the Godzilla movies here the only character I cared about was Bryan Cranston and he died 20 minutes into the first Godzilla movie (first monsterverse Godzilla anyway). Godzilla isn't some benevolent creature in this either. He's absolutely the villain unlike the US movies. He's not there to "restore balance" or whatever. He is there to fuck shit up and does exactly that. You're actually scared for the characters in this movie. Go check it out if you haven't.

Megashark will kick Godzilla's ass ... and don't try to tell me different.
Colossus? Close call.
Ditka? Definitely.

Outstanding film! Highly recommend. The racing scenes were heart pounding. Didn't realize George Clooney directed. Would definitely watch it again

Just watched the remake of Alive-1993. true story and very interesting.

'DEI' made a Netflix remake called "Society of the snow". It's a true story about a plane crash and cannibalism.

"society of the snow"... Wow.

Alive was 100% better.

I liked “ society of the snow.” Alive was good but I think it kind of sugar coated the main issue/dilemma of their means of survival.

I get it. It was watchable, but...to begin with, there were no avalanches.
pictures of them being picked up, prove that.

It's odd, when time/movies change the stories that we all once knew.

Books are always better, and facts stay in place by the nature of words on paper...

Are you sure?
There was an avalanche in “Alive” very similar that part.

according to the book, the avalanches happened while they tried to leave and find help, not at the plane itself. 8 died.
I should have said that earlier. My bad

I’ll read the book. It is an amazing story. Actually I feel like a read the book many years ago. Is it one by Nando?
Edit: yeah I read one called ‘Miracle in the Andes.’

I watched the 2017 movie Wind River tonight, starring Jeremy Renner. Nothing groundbreaking about it, but it tells a good story well. I thought it was odd how many of the cast members would go on to be in Yellowstone (6 or 7 of them), then I realized Taylor Sheridan directed Wind River. Good watch, good story.

Taylor Sheridan rocks. I’m sure you have, but if you haven’t go watch Hell or High Water right away.

Killers of the Flower Moon on Apple TV.

Scorcese is great. Movie is 3 and a half hours long but Marty is nevertheless still the man. They don't make movies like this anymore and once he's gone that's going to be the end of it.
